Actually, the evidence is there and strongly in favor of gender differences inspired by social causes. If you're interested, Delusions of Gender by C. Fine is a good book on this topic. This article from the Guardian summarizes the current state of research into gender differences.

Funny thing, I just got out of my Science & Society class. We spent half an hour discussing cognitive differences between the sexes, with specific reference to a number of books and authors , including Sac and Delusions of Gender. Oh, and how psychology isn't a real science and psychologists tend to jump all over false positives. My teacher is one of the top science advisors at my school. Funny how coincidences happen. :)

You know, issues like the development of the brain w/r/t sex hormones are largely unexplored - science actually has no real idea what's going on at the level you're talking about. A lot of people quote tentative studies with tiny sample sizes and/or huge methodology flaws like they're the word of God. A good book on this subject is Delusions of Gender. I highly recommend it to anyone who claims any knowledge about differences in the brain between men and women.
