Sorry for not really answering your question, we met online at first, but I didn’t really want to meet up even after enjoying talking for months. I was working on my own stuff. Then we coincidentally ran into each other at a bar; seeing him in person made the difference. Been together 7 years getting married in the fall! I wanted to wait until after school to get married, I graduate in a month.

Support: my fiancé has supported me in school since 2013, not financially, I like being independent that way. But in every other way possible. I have to study and can’t go out on a Friday night? Cool, no problem, no guilt tripping, makes me dinner and study snacks, LEAVES ME ALONE to work. Does not attempt to distract me, does his own thing with headphones on to not disturb me. Have a large document I’d like another pair of eyes on? Sure, reads it and hands it back with helpful comments and a bi…

I don’t think the internet is glossing that over at ALL. A lot of the comments I’ve seen have been about grooming, coercion, and taking advantage of both young women and young men.

I’d be extremely surprised if cousin hadn’t molested his son. Abuse is a cycle and the child that molested his sister learned that behavior from somewhere. Probably not porn. Do not let them anywhere near future children. Ever. Full stop.

Even if you do marry, cultivate these female friendships anyway. Cuz he’s likely gonna die before you haha.

I still identify with plenty of feminist ideas, and it’s pretty dang anti feminist to invalidate suffering for one group of people (hetero women) with the unspoken comparison of “other women have it worse.” No one wins when you play the pain Olympics, all women face issues with regards to patriarchal societal norms. Invalidating your struggles with men and dating by saying “ohh hetero cis women are so oppressed lol” is really antithetical to inclusive feminism. Sure, other women have different s…

It will. Masters student here, in STEM, it doesn’t matter. Stupid’s gonna stupid. Sorry, just be firm and ready with some vocabulary from your studies and drown them out with jargon. Use enough big scary words and people generally shut up.

Oof. This hits home for me, one of my best friends is struggling with her Peter Pan husband and it’s sad that he’ll probably never change. She deserves more.

Dude same. I’ve had a guy ask me for nudes on snap literally 10 seconds after I complained to him that guys only want sexy snaps, a wank, and sleep. On at least 6 occasions I have suggested dates and guys respond with asking for pics, y’all don’t want to hang out? What. The. Hell.

Piggy backing off normal body imagine, if you’re talking about young boys, porn, and the negative images there, I’d also bring up masturbation as a healthy thing for a young girl. That it’s not gross, shameful, or wrong. I’d even go so far as to curate a hard drive of some consensual normal porn sex. There’s lots of great amateur couples on pornhub and elsewhere that are great examples of normal humans in the bedroom. I know it sounds weird, but having a solid frame of reference of what’s normal…

I’m right there with you, I live across the country from most of my family, I don’t know how we would do it either, without moving back to the east coast. We’d both take a pay cut and I might not even be able to find a job in my field. She is very lucky to have family so close, it sometimes feels impossible without free family childcare.

I have friends that both work while raising a child, one is a teacher and not only plans meals and shops like a thrifty boss, but she’s creative and somehow has time to have a clean home, make stuff, and look goddam cute doing it. I’m convinced she’s a witch with a time turner. I agree, it all seems very daunting, like there will never be enough time. In reality she has a ton of family and friends supporting her, her parents and his parents live close and take the baby on weekdays when they’re b…

I think most every partnership that involves children, you have to do the math on if going back to work is reasonable compared to childcare expenses. So no, in this economy, I don’t think it’s expected for the woman to go back to work. Especially if you live somewhere with high costs of living and childcare.
