Yeah, she was going to undergo chemotherapy which damage the woman's eggs so she would have a difficult time getting pregnant after treatment. So they fertilized her eggs and froze them prior to chemo so that if her and husband wanted kids later on she could. I wouldn't mind the law if it was contingent on the guy not having to support the kid if he didn't want to.

I don't know about the UK but I know sometimes in the US you are on probation for as long as you owe money and once it's paid back your probation can end.

Yeah, it's horrible. Any benefit that a for profit prison system has is far outweighed by the negatives.

There is a Federal work program that leases out convicts to do jobs at .23 to 1.15 an hour and there is the California Prison Industry Authority that is marketed as a training program that gives apprenticeships and leases out prisoners to work in agriculture (picking fruit). I have no idea how it's legal or even ethical. About people sending money to friends in prison, it seems like that is also garnished up to as much as 50%.

Stealing from a business doesn't involve the same loss of personal security. I can't imagine living in my house after it's been robbed. I would never feel safe. Stealing from a business doesn't reach that level and in this case jail probably isn't the answer, especially if she's in a position to pay it back. My response was just in general terms since it seemed like you were making that point that all nonviolent crime should be treated as a civil matter instead of a criminal one.

Or maybe I did a little research and learned that some prisoners can be ordered to work while in prison and the wage they earn there is garnished. I really don't like the that you made such a blanket statement about me. I've worked since I was 13 mowing lawns, got my working papers at 16 worked a bunch of other bullshit jobs. I also worked two jobs while I was in college. What have you done?

Best I can find is that a trust account is set up for the prisoner and whatever money that is deposited or earned and placed into this account is garnished and applied to whatever restitution that the inmate was ordered to pay.

I get where you're coming from. Throwing people in jail isn't always the answer and for a lot of crimes (in the US at least) it's just the de facto response. My logic is that if a person is going to break in to steal your stuff but the punishment if caught is they need to pay you back you'll probably see a lot more break ins. I just have to assume that if they were willing to steal from you then paying you back isn't high on their list of priorities. If jail or prison focused on rehabilitation t…

What if someone breaks into your house while you're at work and steals all your shit?

Reagan's parents were shot and killed by a big soft gooey cookie as they were walking home from the opera one night.

I don't think it's real. Maybe it's real in as much as the customers are real people, not actors, but they are encouraged to go up to Ramsey and attempt to complain. I think most people would just leave if they werent in on it.

I'm not talking about child support. That's something completely different. I actually know someone who was in a situation where he couldn't afford the child support so the court agreed to give his ex wife his pension and not raise the payments. Not lower them, just not raise them. That is fucking sickening but I'm talking about a mother whose child just died of SIDS being immediately cut off from government aid.

You think you can calculate week to week life? You can calculate food budgets, rent and other things but life still happens. Life still stops you and takes a giant shit on your face and you can't calculate that. You can't sit down and work out a spreadsheet for the 5 years and account for every penny. You need to just live life and make adjustments as you go along. Regarding the guy who said you have no business having kids and your defense of him. In order to have a child you need to save enoug…

What a naive and cynical view. If you are going to "crunch the numbers" before you ever attempt something you'll never accomplish anything. You'll still live at home because you can't afford an apartment, you'll never get married (if you want to) because you can't afford an engagement ring, you'll never buy a house, or switch jobs, or have children. You need to take the plunge and realize that you'll figure it out and make it work. You never know what you're capable of until you put yourself int…

Whats unlikely? That she's a woman, or that her professors told her to feel offended?

That's what pisses me off about shit like this. I get if the person is actually doing something offensive and you're exercising your right to boycott. But when your whole goal is to get a person fired and ruin their lives then you're just doing it because you get off on having the power to do it. She saw something a hula girl, and decided this will be a perfect excuse to ruin her drivers life. It's infuriating because there is real shit that happens but she's wants to be a victim.

"Halley’s article did not reveal the name of the school, the students involved, or the outcome of the situation." So basically the author could be making this whole thing up.

Well in all fairness to the weed thing its not like he's pro alcohol. I think anyone who is looking out for the best interests of a large group of people is going to condemn any sort of vice right off the bat.

I really hope thats satire, because if women think like that, we (men and women) are in real trouble.
