I guess it just depends on the people you talk to every day. If we only ever see a stereotype of someone on TV or the internet (e.g. liberals, conservatives, Muslims, Mexicans...) then we never really get to understand that a whole group of people can't be stereotyped into one neat box. All of that may be true, not arguing there ("rapist" may be a bit strong though, citation?) But that's beside the point. I think my point still stands, if your view is that women have a few less opportunities than men, then saying that "Girls are valuable (too)" doesn't mean that Girls are more valuable than boys, just that they are more valuable than currently, which is less than boys - it's about equality, and it can be taken the wrong way to mean one is better than the other.

Aren't laws like these created to help domestic partners who get beaten by their SO? (Women can beat men too) No matter who opens the door, I would hope that the police walk in and search for the other domestic partner.
