A colleague I know said that even though he’s working remotely, he only sees his newborn for about an hour a day anyway. His wife takes care of their child and he works. I see that as being incredibly sad that he can’t even help her out for more than an hour a day.

I’m approaching dating with that mindset because it’s not everyday that I come across a guy who’s 6 feet tall and a Patrick Wilson look-a-like who has a corporate job ($100k minimum salary). I’m accomplished and young and I’m decent looking but it feels like there’s a lack of good single guys in my area. So it really stinks that he doesn’t have a car/isn’t interested in owning one and I wonder if I should just lower my standards.

Am I being too shallow? I mean, a lot of my girlfriends would say that I am. When I arrived outside the Starbucks, he’d already gone inside and gotten his coffee. So I went in and ordered my own coffee. He didn’t wait for me but it’s not a big deal, I guess.

Does he not have the money to buy a car? I think this guy from OLD has enough money (but who really knows?) because he’s a manager at a reputable firm. Thanks for the response! I feel shallow but I think it’s simply a symptom of being farther along in life than many other 25-year old women. I think if I didn’t own a car myself I wouldn’t mind that he doesn’t? I agree. I don't know anything about other people's marriages other than the tidbits that I glean from what they tell me and the others. I do know that his wife is the same age as him and they don't have kids. All the other men in the department who are married and over 30 have children. He was so friendly, so I've also wondered if he was never a creeper and is just a genuinely friendly guy. I've learned a lot from him, and now I'm miffed because my "new" boss has much weaker technical skills. I feel as though my learning has leveled off.
