Bruce Almighty. The scene where Jim Carey took over Evan Baxter’s voice had me laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe.

I’m now divorced after 25 years of narcissistic abuse. From my own experience I can tell you it won’t get better. I found a podcast by Dr. Kerry McAvoy, PhD: Breaking Free From Narcissistic Abuse. Changed my life. In therapy and focus only on me now. Life got way better after I got out of that anxiety filled hell. Rip the bandaid off, take the plunge and do all you need to and save your life.

Just go in expecting you’ll have a good time. Be yourself, don’t put on an act. Nothing says you’re marrying this girl and if things go sideways you can always bail. You are in charge of your life so take control and start living. You got us here backing you up, your ‘family of choice.’

Yay for you! I went to “marital residence” today and got the rest of my personal belongings. Just waiting on the judge to sign off on my lawyer’s final agreement filing.

One day at a time. You owned/admitted your mistakes. Huge step to recovery. I attend an Al-Anon group. Has helped me tremendously. We fellas gotta stick together. Sounds like you’re on the mend.

Sounds like ex is a narc. I just filed on my narc and see this behavior as typical narcissism. As others have said don’t rag on her to your son. Believe me, he knows his dad’s there for him. Keep showing up, proving you are the stand up man you are. Make him your #1, earn it. Tell the lad he has a loving uncle out there who would dearly love to go to his parties, band performances, everything. I’ve several nieces/nephews and no kids. They know and tell me all the time I’m their favorite uncle.

I’d start by quit asking. She’s adjusting to a new normal. Anything that’s a reminder is gonna sting. Kids will remember experiences long after stuff and things. I’d be sure to do as much as possible to give her fun and happy memories she can associate with this new 2nd home as a happy and safe place. Don’t be hard on yourself as you sound like you are doing all you can on her behalf in a tough spot for a teen.

No matter how good she looks there’s someone who’s fed up with her shit.

We all need to vent. And have a sympathetic ear, willing to hear. I’d suggest letting it go. Your kids should know who their “real” dad is. Be that guy, loving your kids, making them a priority and doing the fun “dad” things good dad’s do. Play catch, toss footballs, fly kites, go to the library, find low cost things to do that proves you are “their” dad. I DGAF what $ this dude has. He’ll never be you.

Sux but admire your level head & obvious strength. No doubt you’ll be better off.

Civil War US Army General Philip Henry Sheridan is famously quoted “If I owned Texas and Hell, I’d rent out Texas and live in Hell”. Weather’s not horrible all year but feel since you asked I’d give you lots of info.

Couple of fun sayings: I wasn’t born in TX but I got here as fast as I could & TX it’s not just a state, it’s a state of mind. We’re proud folks here.

Native son here. Dallas has hot job market so all are moving here. Traffic & home prices rising. East TX has some redneck hicks. Houston, long time a big city but humid. I 2nd suggestion to look at the “hill country”, prettiest part of the state along with Big Bend. Austin used to have cool vibe but tech has taken over and that’s gone. High housing cost too. San Antone has a lotta character and the Riverwalk is cool. South Padre Island, best beach IMO. Rio Grande valley, mucho produce. I speak S…

Now imagine a wonderful life going forward, see yourself in it. And allow the universe to bring it to your reality. Taken me years to shrug prior negative crap, not doing it any more.

No. Do not set this expectation. My thought you are doing exactly right for the well being of your child long term.
