It's not discrimination. If I am able to work any time of day or night, and a co-applicant has a much more limited availability (regardless of the reason for it) I am more hireable then the co-applicant. What is wrong with that? I know of plenty of men that have had to pass on promotions, not get hired, or be forced to accept lower paying jobs just so they can work around a daycare schedule.

Yes, she would get maternity leave. While being on maternity leave, or paternity leave for that matter, you generally do not receive a wage increase based on merit - you are physically not at work. You are not earning that raise.

The wage IS fair for the experience and the work they do. If Bill took time off to raise his kids, and was absent from work, should be receive the same pay as a co-worker who is there all the time? Should he receive the raise for good work done when he was not there to do work? No, that's not reasonable and not fair. It does not matter which parent takes time off work to look after the baby.
