Not really, "I like it when men explain basic things". You have to finish it to understand the group definition. The group is "men who do explain basic things". It is a sub group of men. Specifically men who explain basic things.

Okay so you kinda switched your point, got it. You were saying she likes it because they are good looking men. Now you are saying she is talking about all men, not exclusively good looking ones. So let me explain, when she says "I like it when men do X" the group being discussed is men who do X. That is the group. If you do X she is talking about you (and pretty sarcastically too), if you don't do X then she isn't talking about you. It is nice and simple. Maybe this is a legitimate misunderstand…

That is literally not what she is saying though. She is saying she likes it because it is funny/adorable like a child who is excitedly explaining something that they just learned to an adult. The adult clearly knows more about it but it is amusing how excited the child is about something they understand. You missed the context entirely. You may have just read my snippet so I recommend you reread the first image of the post. I think that will clear it up.

Dude you need some chill. No need to be this triggered. I think you missed the point I was making. I recommend you actually talk to people rather than attack them and get this defensive. I've literally never had a conversation with someone who meant "all men are rapists" when they said "men are rapists". Same logic as you are applying if they meant all then they would say "all". And seriously dude men say "women are gold diggers" constantly. Just because you don't you pretend it doesn't exist? T…

What? I'm really confused by this statement. It doesn't make sense to me in the context of the conversation. What did you mean?

Exactly! Generalizations suck but so often I've seen people call out legitimately toxic behavior but because they didn't use the perfectly specific wording it can sound more aggressive, generic or off the mark than intended. I used to be such a little shithead about attacking those little nuances and not listening to the valid core intent of the statement. It's why I feel so much cringe when I see the "not all men" response (one I used to make) because I've almost never seen a time when someone …

Reasonable, although I know for me I never thought I did this until a friend pointed it out to me while I was 'mansplaining' to her. I didn't intend to, and I didn't mean to be condescending but it really did. I assumed she couldn't know what I knew on this topic (some random video bs I think) but she did. It was a good check for me.

All good! It has happened to me too. A thing that has often helped me is to realize how to seperate my gut check reactions with my thought out opinions. I'm not always good at it as I hope to be but I know I've spent hours arguing for my gut check only to later realize I never really thought about it and was thinking about how to win the argument.

It is pretty clear that she referring to a specific group of men, "I like it when men explain basic things to me because..." she is defining the group she is refering to at the beginning.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
