I respectfully disagree with all three of your options. If he's going to try to introduce himself to a lady he's seen, and has likely seen him, there's no point in being wishy-washy about it. Be forward. Don't beat around the bush by asking passive questions about something you don't actually care about at all.

I've been in your situation before and it poses a few good "ins" for conversation starters. I'd suggest sitting down next to her and starting with the obvious common interest, your many classes. I would suggest a line like, "Listen, you're in a few of my classes, but I don't think I've ever gotten your name." Congrats, now she's obligated to speak with you. I don't fully understand your question, perhaps it's because I haven't read DiCarlo's writing, but I feel I know what you're trying to ask. Perhaps this is an adequate answer. Holding hands is not what you're making it out to be. It's not like you two are going to be walking around like a couple kids in junior high with your fingers interlocked. Remove the "can" altogether. "Meet me for a drink later this week." or slightly more polite "You should meet me for a drink later this week." Either way, it's not an open ended statement or question. Both phrases you mentioned are passive.
