Bingo, excellent take. I touch on that here. There is book called The Stories We Tell Ourselves that talk about this pattern. Women tend to rank higher in neuroticism and there is nothing on our current culture telling them to calm the fuck down, put things in perspective or balance their expectations so it snowballs. In fact, it’s telling us the opposite: your feelings are the center of the universe, amplify every perceived slight. So if she is prone to seeking an enemy, seeing things in black …

Why do you believe your wife no longer loves you? How does she treat you as a wife and how much time are you able to spend together as a couple? In the interests of fairness, try to determine if your wife/marriage is “fixable”. It sounds like there is still some uncertainty. I recommend John Gottman and The Caring and Feeding of Marriage by Dr. Laura. What do her days look like? Perhaps right now because you handle the majority of child rearing and breadwinning, it might give her a degree of com…

Has she always been like this? Why does she feel justified in trying keep you in her sight this way? It seems like she sees you more like a teenager than like a spouse. Were there any red flags before marriage?

Agreed, he makes too many excuses. OP needs to read No More Mr Nice Guy and the Assertiveness Workbook. Also the Strong Successful Male channel has good advice and stories of how guys become doormats with women pushing and abusing boundaries in self serving ways. It takes a lot of will to make your own way.

For some it’s mental or hormonal instability, but IMO it’s neuroticism (which women score higher in) with the husband as the receptacle for it. Laura Doyle’s book and The Happy Wife School discusses this kind of mental micromanaging. Sometimes women, used to managing small kids in marriage, will over time extend this kind of managing to husbands if you let them unfortunately. Boys and Men sometimes try to appease this behavior pattern to keep the peace and it can enable this power dynamic.

This. She low key wants you to fight for her. You guys are playing chicken and she blinked. It’s all emotions and power moves and exhausting.

Yep women become busybodies in their own marriages and then comes the “emotional labor” crap that burdens the husband with her behavior and rumination. I’ve seen it so many times on r/deadbedrooms and those poor guy seeking help get blasted by the brigade into oblivion.

Yes, you are correct. That devotion is too rare for a man to ever rely on and mostly reserved for romance novels. Briffault’s Law.

💯 don’t ever let women gaslight you with their “emotional load” crap to think otherwise. Women by and large know marriage benefits them disproportionately.

Yes she is. Please go watch the Strong Successful Male channel. You can’t trust her. The trickle truth and duplicity are on the infidelity checklist. You are her safe bet she can violate and emasculate as she pleases. She will not stop because you are too nice and there are no real consequences.

It hurts because you didn’t want the divorce. It hurts because you put yourself on the line for the family and she put the family on the line for herself.

I’m sorry. What does she say she want and what you think she wants? What is her grand narrative (the story she is telling herself)? To be an “independent woman”? Does she feel like marriage is some sentence she has served on the eve of retirement age (heard this before)? Or is she lazy or bored or maybe going through menopause?

Case in point Woman leaves husband and the family she had for internet brownie points and regrets it, obviously. Putting the need for attention over family has consequences. Life is not an episode of Sex and the City.

She knows (like all woman know) that she has the capacity to punish you via parental alienation. Women hurt with words or leveraging a third party (state or courts). She was revealing how she could hurt you if given the chance were she feeling vindictive enough.

Stop acommodating them. It is just enabling, unfortunately. It's best to ignore anything that isn't pertinent. Women will complain about anything for the attention and relief from venting. No need to accommodate this like a customer service hotline.

Yes by nice, I mean accommodating. People generally cannot keep up their facade for long. I suspect she gave signs of being like this while dating, but OP gave too much slack and patience instead of nexting them. That's how being nice punishes good men in the long run. They accommodate crap they should not. Some women sense they can take a mile from the inch you gave and disrespect the relationship by not meeting halfway.

You were too nice and too reasonable. When you give a woman too much certainty, some will take advantage of it. They will not be grateful or appreciative, just more entitled. This is one of the biggest mistakes men make. It weakens their respect for you and they withdraw intimacy. It's painful and frustrating, man. I'm sorry you are hurting, but it's best that you didn't have kids with a woman so lazy they couldn't be bothered to read a book to work on your marriage. Take some time to grieve tha…

The "plan" was to build an addition and/or some other construction The plan or Her plan? and my questions were "where is the money coming from?" And "when is this happening" Good questions, but unfortunately these questions are irrelevant because of the power dynamic in place. She is doing the “planning” and you are not. Why destroy our marriage and then drag it out to the very end ? Tingles There was likely an affair before or during this separation “finding herself” period. Women will deny this and accuse you of being “insecure” without hard evidence. When confronted with evidence, they then start crying. You can set your watch to it. I’d start there. Did she just enjoy having power and control over my emotions? Yes She also draws fuel from the emotional roller coaster itself. Since she is preoccupied with her…

Your unstable ex likes the attention she gets from using you as her emotional tampon and crutch while getting boned by the bad boy. All while she avoids introspection in lieu of self-pity. End this ASAP. Your time is too valuable. Any destructive behavior that can create instability collect evidence on to get protection for your child away from that chaos. I’m not sure how old your son is, but be mindful of their future son/mother dynamic as she may do the same to him: use him as a crutch to mol…

It is called “What have you done for me lately?” Or Briffault’s law. Many women can view men’s utility have diminish returns in a relationship. It’s part of human psychology. In order to further justify breaking up the family, they must be the hero or victim (women usually choose victim). So she must tell herself a story that builds her up and puts you down. IIRC, it’s actually creating a problem in the field because since more graduates are women and predictably do women shit like bail out of the workforce or work less hours, it’s compounding the doctor shortage. It’s hilarious when idealism meats reality, but somehow the system is still to blame for privileged women’s choices.

This is true. Disgusting, but true. Some women are so enraptured with pregnancy/baby tingles that they have no problem trapping a man. You might have made a pragmatic choice to have 2 children, but to a fickle woman that means nothing. Feelings before Reason The need to fulfill their biological imperative is so strong in some they can justify betraying their man and family. In fact, the man does not factor in their decision. For such a woman, the man is a disposable utility. The fact that she wo…

Women say they want 50/50, but it is a virtue signal. What actually happens is over time “50/50” feels like they are taking on more than they should have to and it builds resentment. She checked out long ago and counseling was an intervention for you to get you up to speed with her plans to leave. It’s cold man, but it is common story. I’m sorry — try to take the advice here and build yourself up, reconnect with friends and family. You are not alone.

That’s eat pray love syndrome or “chasing tingles”. It’s likely a combination of a midlife crisis and a man in her past or one orbiting her during your marriage she is emotionally attached to and possibly monkey branching to. The above poster is an example of how they justify abandoning commitment to the men who care for them with flowery word salad.

It could be a number of reasons, but it basically comes down to them not really taking marriage seriously as a vow of commitment. It’s more like buying a car or a piece of furniture. It’s a utility. Society has changed from valuing things outside the individual (family, community, country) to worshipping the self and individual gratification. Feminist dogma endorses competition between the sexes over cooperation and the family unit suffers. You might be waking up to how pervasive it is.

It’s the reason why some many people are obese versus 100 years ago. There is too much incentivizing the more gluttonous instincts in people. Women don’t think they will “lose” in divorce. Media, society and their peers have been told women are the “wiser” sex (despite men doing 90% of the necessary grunt jobs that keeps society functioning) and because of male protective instincts, can gamble on divorce to find a new man to finance their security. Moreover, society no longer discourages frivolo…

Women score higher in agreeableness and tend to be more influenced by others in their peer group. That’s why it’s important when dating to observe their peer group and the alpha in the pack (usually whoever runs their mouth the most). Good or bad, what the alpha one does and says, the other women may follow or at least be influenced by. That’s how Divorce becomes a contagion.

I’m not the OP but I’ll try to answer your question: Conventional wisdom in media, culture, society and law have over the past several decades undermine long term marital stability. Many men believe all you have to do is be agreeable and she will love you forever. This is incorrect. Further, the marital contract in particular does not serve men’s interests. This is a fact. A borderline/high-conflict wife unfortunately will model and normalize those outbursts for your child and may promote parental alienation I’m sorry to say. Reach out to her teachers and friend’s parents to get a sense of her behavioral patterns if possible. I am not sure how old your daughter is, but IMO consistency and discipline can help develop accountability and self-awareness as a foundation. She is 100% crying crocodile tears for herself. It’s self-serving and manipulative. Same as bringing up stuff said in the past to make you feel compelled to apologize. You can easily control the state of a conversation that way and she seems adept at it. Don’t give anything for nothing in the vein of being charitable. Don’t protect her socially. In fact, be uncharitable so long as it doesn’t impact your child.

You are right to think there is a deeper problem. IMO, Society makes it too easy to break the marriage contract. Lady gets security, kids, and shortly thereafter can unilaterally retire from any other obligation to marriage (sex, peace, loyalty, etc) while weaponizing dissatisfaction with their own choices against their spouse. IMO, Women prioritize self-actualization over family and their emotions become their reality regardless of its merit). That is too much of a risk for men (prenup or not) …

Once it's physical with a woman like that, I don't think it's fixable. There will never be peace from an agent of chaos. Women don’t use fists. They use words to inflict pain, knowingly or unknowingly. They use words to express their frustration and often whoever is closest as a punching bag. This is the result of the removal of swift negative consequences from actions in society. When people live a comfortable life that allows the option to dual mate —secure children and security one decade and renege that contract to chase tingles and resources the next decade(“being happy”)—many are going to take it.

Yep, you (and your time) are a utility and your time when the kids come is her time to dictate (as a part of household management). If she went out to brunch it’s fine though, she has no obligation to explain a thing. Some aren’t aware of how degrading this control is. Some wouldn’t care even if they did. The book “How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids” outlines this dynamic. In it, the wife works from home and the husband travels for work. Over time, she starts to resent it and weaponize the …

Women already do not prioritize men or husbands wants —they then to be more focused on themselves and view the success of a relationship on their cup being filled. Things men want (peace and quiet and sexual intimacy) are not valued as obligations women need to uphold as wives.

OP is being obtuse using that fake virtuous copy-pasted response while actually looking foolish. It is not unreasonable to assume a separated wife, yes, even yours, who already shows signs of resentment for their spouse might be engaging emotionally or physically with another man. Too many husband’s egos are still tied into the “women are wonderful” effect and it continually undermines their protective instincts.

You are not listening. Men with your income (high income in a coastal area) have their pick of woman and can choose younger, single women who are not divorced with no kids or baggage. That’s the reality. Understand that. This is one of the lies of the women’s movement that’s can be confusing since you are an exception as a high income earner. Men and women value different things. That emotional detachment was a ticking time bomb . If there’s a problem within the relationship, it’s up to you as a spouse to voice those concerns clearly to find a resolution that preserves the family. “Hints” are bullshit. This story reminds me of this person. He used the law to get what he wanted out of others by positioning himself as a victim. Right on the money. Men don’t generally come up on women’s radars for the most part. If a woman both notices a man AND tells you about it —it’s a likely tell that her tingles have been triggered. It can be a helpful tool for closure, but I do think it’s misguided to expect it simply because the guilty party’s empathy for the betrayed has to outweigh their own pride and self-interest, which is rare. R/deadbedrooms is like r/divorce and much or Reddit in that regard. Women are victims and have hypo/no agency and men are agents that have the power/hyperagency. All this while prentending the sexes are the same. It limits and censors discussion of many issues outside of the usual talking points.

🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 She’s 40 and has never has a relationship longer than 9 months. Does that makes sense to you? Her biological clock is not your responsibility. And her failure to plan for this biological reality does not constitute any emergency commitment from you. You’ve already been bitten once man. Don’t let guilt tripping fool you again.

Very true - stop taking shit Begging for a woman will never bring them back or earn you their respect. On the contrary, it will only empower her to feel superior to you, thus justifying her whatever reasoning to leave you in the first place. Resist betatization through a 1000 concessions

Your observation of this double-bind is correct and another reason why I don’t advise signing any papers. You can find a middle ground - a woman with a stable job she takes pride in, but not a “career”woman. She respects you as a man, respects her father, men in general (so she doesn’t seek to compete with you), understands the importance of complimentary roles, and family. Observe her temperament. Does she bring peace? Or does she seek attention or to one-up or compete with you? How does she re…

It takes more skill for men to have get physical attention and sex since women are the gatekeepers to it- that’s why comparing body count/sexual history of men and women is apples to oranges and will never work. You know the ick? That’s what I suspect this guy has. These responses being inconsistent/evasive does not help and set things up to fail. The situation was mishandled and for your own sanity it’s best to learn from it and move on.

Most people believe implicitly that men have hyperagency and women hypoagency. Men do and women have things done to them. It’s built into our evolutionary operating system. Hence those responses. We have made enormous frontend social changes without properly assessing the backend stuff running in the background.

If you have been vocal about your past relationship, she may, to an extent, be mirroring you (not necessary with ill intent). People want to get in others good graces and will say things to get along, especially if she feels she benefits from a relationship with you (which she does, that’s why she is there). Regardless, signing the marriage contract (and her bearing children) gives any woman significant leverage over you legally and socially and most are aware of that. Marriage is like riding a …

Is it good to do self-evaluation to improve as a spouse/father? Sure But the answer is not the “happy wife/thank me for being pregnant” guilt tripping mama bear nonsense the OP above is suggesting. More deference and attempts at squaring the circle won’t work with a high-conflict wife playing the Divorce card who doesn’t respect you. No amount of the centering your life around your wife’s fickle emotions will work with a dynamic like yours - especially if your wife is not level headed, openly re…

Most there love their children, they just not adjusted well the day to day of it. I think it’s uncharitable to say they “hate” their children. It’s important that we see reality and they are honest. That is one of few spaces they are allowed to do speak openly without getting crucified.

Yup, lots of women need to wake up to the new rules. We can’t condone shaming men and condone the greater western society calling regular guys creeps or losing their livelihoods and then not expect it to impact the old school rules of being chased or doted on. That’s said, I don’t think sending clear signals/ indicators or interest and being positive and flirtatious have completely gone of out style. I give and get positive feedback from these gestures.

Age difference used to be brought up as a reasonable concern in extreme cases (much older men chasing underage women or very large gaps 12+ years) or to bring up long-term functional considerations like some have on this thread. Now is just used a shaming tactic against any 5+ year age gap, even if the woman/man is of legal age. It's ridiculous. Moreover, I've noticed a lot of infantizing language used against young adults on display. I don't think increasing infantalizing of people is good fo…

While his request comes off as gauche, I suggest instead using this as an opportunity to talk to your partner to figure out what's really going on. I'm curious if a micromanaging dynamic existed throughout the relationship? How old are the two of you? Understand where he is coming from and what his concerns are and explain where you are coming from and what your concerns are. If you don't see eye to eye or believe he is being unreasonable, then it's best to part ways. Though change from childbir…

I meant an individual male counselor for yourself first or a male marriage counselor. Tackle the (understandable) resentment toward your wife while reading the self-development and marriage books recommended. Be proactive. Keep being a good dad. Ironically appeasing only enables the needy one to look for more things to complain about. Don’t apologize for your hobbies. What are your wife’s hobbies? What are your shared hobbies? Much of advice endorsed here counters mainstream cultural trends - that includes the romanticization of “the struggle” which, like other feel good slogans, is a massive cope. As other ladies have mentioned in order for a relationship to work long term, you need to be able to love him and accept him as he is. It will only lead to resentment on both of your ends if you don’t. That is up to you to decide. That said, your concerns are understandable - thousands in parking tickets do not correspond w…

Meet his desires in a sensual way. Draw a bath for the two of you. Make him his favorite dessert for the two of you to share. You know him best. Take cues from what he likes to do for you - sometimes it's what he would like to have done for himself. The Empowered Wife and 5 Love Languages can help here. Romance is not just a list of tasks done for you - it's something you also both share together. If you want change, ask directly, but also be the change you wish to see.

That's also really concerning. Honestly? Yes, there is truth in this. I'm not saying that men don't feel engage similar behavior, but subscribing to the sexes being "the same" mantra isn't helpful especially when facing divorce, IMO. In studies of the five big personality traits, it's been noted that, on average, women score higher in neuroticism (moodiness, emotional instability) as well as extroversion (not surprising as women on average derive more meaning from personal relationships and what others think of them). What th…
