The question of buying your own house is big one for MGTOW; I'm at the crossroads myself and I'm still deciding. Buying a sprawling house in the suburbs for one person seems absurd, especially if it increases your commute time to work. I used to rent a 2 bed, 2 bath apartment just because it was cheap, and in practice the second bedroom was just a storage unit most of the time. But town houses and condos often come with prohibitive HOA fees. The whole "buy a house!" mantra in America seems to be…

Good points there. The internet is awash in articles saying "$1 million isn't enough to retire off anymore", and even though we know those numbers are pitched to married couples, it still subconsciously factors in when you look at "how you're doing".

That's what gave me pause; wondering if the differences in taxes and investing strategies for a bachelor really merit their own source. There are differences, to be sure. Just something I'm kicking around at this point and was curious about feedback.

I honestly always felt the same way: it's just math. That's why I never really wrote anything. But I notice so many people out there don't seem to get it, that maybe this knowledge isn't as common as we think it is.

Have you ever noticed how the word "sexy" is always purposely misused in cases like this, where women want men to take on extra drudge work or thankless responsibility? When an obviously unsexy activity is described as "sexy", you can bet dollars to donuts a woman is trying to convince you to do something you don't want to.

It is a great quote, but on a related note, is anyone else annoyed at that show for the "brilliant wife / loser husband" dynamic that exists between Beth and Jerry? I know Jerry's a loser, but it's sometimes hard to watch how much glee the show takes in emasculating him and presenting him as hopeless without a woman in his life. I know the last season finale promised to change that dynamic, but I'm not hopeful.

I think this is a very good article written from a traditional social conservative point of view. It's good to see that ideas like the 80/20 rule are making their way into mainstream thought.

Man, that would have been a perfect time to respond with your own (comically low) counter-offer. At least once I'd like to have the exchange: "What do you think I am?" "We've already established what you are, now we're just negotiating."

Honestly, black guys seem to legitimately go for 200+ lb women for some reason. I'm always surprised by how many Facebook likes the really overweight black girls get. Maybe there's a cultural component.

Funny you should say that; it technically is. I bring in a lot of capital gains from many years of investing my surplus pay. I could probably do a "lean" early retirement now if I didn't like my job. But still, I'd like to be able to say my salary is six figures, just for vanity. It's dumb, I know.

Man, I hear these stories and feel like a slacker with my $85k. I mean, I don't really need more since it's just me, but I'd like to be able to say I make six figures!

I think it's because this information (which is probably false) came at a time in his life when he was obsessed with his own waning virility, and his lack of a legacy in the form of a child. The idea that even non-procreative sex allows other men to "carry on their genes" (in a way), while he was denied that chance, probably contributed to his depression. It relates, too, to his later fantasies about having super-potent sperm that "overwrite" someone else's child with his own.

While I agree peacocking is a waste, there's nothing wrong with a man wanting to look good for his own sake. I spend the work week in dress shirts, I may as well have some high-quality ones that I like the look of. I don't, however, own any UNTUCKit.

I'm a bit of a barfly myself, so I've always enjoyed renting a nice, upscale one-bedroom apartment in a walkable urban area close to lots of pubs and cocktail bars. A lot of guys here seem to prefer off-the-grid living, but I'm a talkative drinker. I prefer to rent because condos in such areas tend to kill you on HOA fees (hundreds a month in many cases), which kind of offsets the benefit of building home equity.

Credit where credit's due: I would have expected the New York Times to enthusiastically be in favor of the end of men's magazines. The fact that they published an article critical of the pro-feminist shift is frankly surprising. I wonder how this piece made it past the editors.

The idea is that relying on someone else (either a spouse or the government) for your living makes you a permanent welfare recipient, and hence not in control of your life. I think there's some truth to that as far as the government goes, but as even she admits, a wife isn't helpless to change her husband's behavior.

Am I the only one who noticed that the hated lumpenproletariat in her article (the nastiest of all socialist terms) are all men? The latent assumption that all boosters of the UBI are men, playing those darn vidyagames and smoking doobies? I don't argue with her thesis that a life on the dole is soul-crushing, but the whole article is about a specifically gendered disgust of men on the dole.

I normally like Peterson, but I was rather disappointed when he said that Brett Kavanaugh should step down just because of the accusations against him. I hear he backtracked from that position after a backlash from his base, but it remains that this was his original opinion.

If you want some schadenfreude, can I suggest the Dead Mall Series on YouTube? Dan Bell loves filming video tours of once-prosperous malls that are now nearly deserted. He doesn't have an agenda in filming them, he just likes the eerie atmosphere, but it's an interesting watch for those of us who think malls ought to die.

Most of these terms come from the blog "The Rational Male" by Rollo Tomassi, whose posts were later compiled into a book by the same name. If you want to hear someone argue in favor of these ideas, it would be best to go to the source and judge for yourself how convincing his arguments are. The blog is pretty easy to navigate if you start with his "Best Of" posts starting from year one. Personally, I think there is some truth to be found in it, but a lot of his writing is just telling his audien…

Done the right way it's basically an escort arrangement, where every date has guaranteed sex at the end or else allowance is withheld. The idea that sugar daddies are paying girls for platonic dinners is not grounded in reality.

I feel you. I don't mean to bring down the mood, but by the time I was proficient with women, I was too old to really date college girls anymore, and the women my age aren't really anything to get excited about. I do still regret not having a "wild youth", but I've built an enviable life, and like you said, I'm not eager to share my established life and wealth with someone who wasn't there in the early, doubt-filled years. If the regret is truly something you find you can't get over, you can alw…

I do feel the same way: I'm 40, and throughout my life I *expected* to get married eventually, because that's what people were supposed to do. But really, I have no desire to date at all anymore. A large part of that is that I don't have a very high sex drive; I'm just fine without physical intimacy most of the time. One of the biggest problems I see in the MGTOW community is men who are forever locked in the "anger phase" because they have high sex drives that can't be satiated without dating, …

Dang, a very good list of characters I'd forgotten. It's funny, Grue from the first movie at least showed that being single doesn't mean that you close your heart to humanity. It was a good movie. I never saw the sequels though.

Honestly, don't do it. Currency trading of any kind is notoriously risky and subject to short-term swings all the time. Since you're fairly young, this is the point where your money should be going to boring stuff like paying off debt and establishing an emergency fund. Those things will set you up to be financially secure in your twenties and thirties while all your acquaintances are drowning in debt. One MGTOW life tip I'll offer is: try to avoid buying a car if you can. You don't need one to …

Some people choose it. Other people find themselves adopting the lifestyle because society has chosen to slowly dismantle everything that makes marriage and long-term relationships viable for men. It's much in the same way that baby boomers have chosen to dismantle the social safety net and the concept of lifetime employment: now there are many younger people dealing with the new economic landscape who didn't "choose" to work gig jobs forever, but that's the boat they're in. And those people nee…

I would like to point out that all the obstacles on the track are laundry. I've done my own laundry my entire life and it's not hard. If putting your clothes in the washer, watching TV, moving them to the dryer, watching more TV, and then putting them away is too hard? You're probably not headed for the executive suite anyway.

I always wondered whether it was better. I suppose alcohol helps heal razor burn. Without that, I'm not sure what separates it from cologne with moisturizer.

I subscribe to Dollar Shave Club and the price is certainly right. Razor quality is middling, I would say. Their basic model is a dual blade, but I upgraded to the triple blade and like it considerably more.

People are spot-on that these lifestyles are funded through enormous debt. In fact, I remember one woman who went $10,000 in debt in an attempt to become an "Instagram influencer": https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/woman-debt-instagram-famous-blogger-10000-dollars-miami-lissette-calveiro-a8240056.html

From the top comment: Now every guy I see liking any of her stuff of Instagram or Facebook I’m worried is someone she used to hook up with. knows exactly what they have to offer and chooses to be with you instead. You know, I imagine guy #59 probably thought the same thing.

As an American, I'd say it hugely depends on where you live. In a coastal city like New York or Los Angeles? Definitely true; you need six figures to live a life of urban affluence. But I've lived in middle America, and there are plenty of places where $60k-70k is relatively wealthy for the area. I know Australia is more expensive, partly because of import costs and partly because no one wants to live in the interior, but it's not the case everywhere. Melbourne is an expensive place.

I'm right there with you. I have a well paying but not flashy job, but thanks to years of being a bachelor I have a net worth miles beyond most people my age. Since I don't walk around throwing cash everywhere, though, you'd never know it. In an alternate universe I could easily be a woman's early retirement ticket. But I'm glad I have the self respect to live for myself, instead of someone "ready to settle". Now I have financial security most people will never know. Feels good.

Oddly, what annoys me the most about this chart is that they don't understand the D&D alignment system at all. The law-chaos scale is not supposed to just be another good vs. evil metric. For instance, lawful evil characters use the law to their own selfish advantage, while chaotic evil characters don't care about laws and certainly don't want to pass new ones. Chaotic good makes no sense here either: they're mostly good people who find the law to be immoral or too restricting and, well, go thei…

Yeah, I noticed they bent over backwards to use gender-neutral language. Seriously, "those who have older models of either smartphone are 56% less likely to get a date"? Can you imagine a man turning down a date with a young and attractive woman who has an older smartphone? They just really don't want to make women sound materialistic, and yet the bit I quoted openly says that men care less about money than women.

If you can, look into buying a condo with low HOA fees. If you don't have a wife and kids, there's no reason to buy a McMansion out in the suburbs; all that square footage will mostly go unused if it's just you. I have friends who bought huge houses far away from work, and now have ungodly long commutes every day. The ability to live by yourself in a place that's close to your job, and within walking distance of good commercial areas, is worth a lot more than a few extra rooms and a backyard.

The problem is that men still compete for status among themselves, which often translates into a desire to be "the only real man in the room". For some men this means being "more muscular than those soyboys", and for more bluepilled men it means being the loudest to proclaim their feminist credentials ("Real men don't just walk girls home from the bar, they call them in the morning and bring them breakfast!") But both kinds of men are establishing themselves in the hierarchy, which requires they…

More power to him! He's made the right call. As an aside, though, am I the only one who isn't a "car guy"? A lot of my financial success is based on not buying cars and investing the money instead. I've got a very high net worth for my age, but you'd never know it by looking at me. Sometimes I'm tempted to get a car like this just to see if people start treating me differently.

Hi, a 40 year old man here with no kids. I certainly don't want any, and what really cured me of that was spending time with friends who are single parents. Babysit a hyperactive kid for an afternoon, and then imagine doing that every day for the rest of your life. One day was already exhausting, and I have a house of my own to go back to at the end of the day; they don't. But still, I understand the appeal of kids. That can be dangerous in other ways. Remember a while back on social media, a black waitress showed a photo of a receipt with "None, n****r" written in the tip line. It made national news and she got $11,000 in sympathy donations before people realized the whole thing was fake. She wrote the racial slur in herself. But if she'd been smarter about copying his handwriting, that guy would have been presumed guilty.

I didn't believe it either, until I looked into it in a time of weakness. There are tons of girls who want it, but the few who have the looks for it can pull in some serious money.

I looked into it: $2k - $3k a month will get you a college-aged sugar baby who looks reasonably good, and the average is seeing her 1-2 times a week. $5k a month would be considered really generous. There are way more college girls looking for this kind of arrangement than there are men to pay for them, so it's a buyer's market for the men, and the girls try their hardest to look good since there's cash on the line. Exclusivity is something that a lot of sugar daddies ask for, and that may run y…

I know, I've paid for escorts before, but the whole appeal of sugar babies is that you're paying for femininity, not just sex. Those are two different commodities. Escorts don't spend any more time with you than they have to, and they generally won't flirt with you or text you spontaneously, or go the extra mile to keep you. That's what richer older guys are paying for, not just the physical act of sex. And they're doing it because femininity is much scarcer than plain sex in our society.
