It is a shame morally, but a good motivator to a volunteer military force. There’s always going to be a need for it. Maybe we’ll see a future of reforms that involves better motivators. Idk. It’s increasingly clear that the leaders at the top do not give a shit about their actions when things turn political, which is demoralizing. You have great success on the battlefield, but the wars end with meaningful progress lost.

That’s an incredibly pessimistic view of it. Many argue that trade school jobs are the way to go now if you don’t want to be drowned in debt, and the military is still a good place for that. Granted you don’t do something that’s useless. But that would be similar to getting a useless degree too which happens. Sadly it’s one of the few ways you can get through college without crazy debt especially if you come from no money.
