I guess ask yourself if rape is the punishment you would support for pedophiles. I don't support capital punishment period. So the question is easy for me. I haven't seen the exact statistics, but I've heard that men and women spend money at a similar rate, and women often spend a bit more. We all know the problems with the wage gap methodology, but it could sometimes be a useful tool to identify groups that need help. If a group is making less and spending less, that could be a sign of systemic poverty that needs to be addressed, even if it's not a sign of discrimination.
