The name has always bothered me as well, it brings to mind young guys in black leather coats wearing shades indoors and liking the movie The Matrix a bit too much. But then I read what some of the people has written here and focused on that instead, so now I don't really care about it's name at all. It's like finding the perfect pair of shoes where the maker is named FlippityfloppityFloo. The shoes still fit.

The whole thing was much too short to be meaningful in any way, regardless of the side on this issue, but it did annoy me a bit that the host implying that the incident at PyCon was about sexism and not just crude humour. The discussion afterwards, however, was something entirely different.

What really gets me is that one indcator of being a rape supporter is being prolife... And another indicator of being a rape supporter is being pro-choice. From what I gathered in the link, it's not about being pro-life or pro-choice but the reasons you are supporting either. Personally, the only part in this whole debacle I have an issue with is the company that fired that one dude for his remark in the first place. I can agree that those kind of jokes can be a little unprofessional and might be something you make when there isn't all that many people around. But getting fired over it is just absurd, it's like getting fired for dropping a fork while having dinner.

You do raise a very valid point. I'm still not sure I can agree that it trumps individual responsibility but of course it would be silly and dumb to believe that we are unaffected by society. Very doubtful. I feel that the whole Red Pill thinking is outdated and useless for most people since society changed and the people here are the ones who never were able to. Yes and no. I've noticed it's much more infected when there is a lot of users from the americas and southern europe, but the discussion is much less hostile in the rest of the world. But most people can still discuss these things like adults.

I disagree. Feminism is a movement for the liberation of women, something historically needed and still is. And there is the MRM that I'm hoping will be the same thing but for men. I don't really see how they compete against each other, but should instead stand on each others side for a more egalitarian society.

The MRM is non-feminist at most tolerable to anti-feminist at least. Sorry, but no. Some people identify me as a feminist and I somewhat agree, but one has to be blind not to see some double standards and problems men still face in society. I do believe that feminism is the answer to most MR-questions, so I have to say that I fail to see your point in why one can't be involved in "both".

But it isn't about the law, at least that's how I saw it. It's about an attitude that way too many share in society. I do feel like the comarison to beating children is somewhat correct in that way, it's something most sane people scoff at but at the same time is way too common.

It's true that I might have a narrow view of the world, but I'd say that rape is a pretty big issue. Sure, it's getting better albeit slowly, but it's still a huge problem. This might not be the best way to change things, and of course most men don't rape, but at the same time I've seen way too many examples of men who feel entitled to sex for simply helping a woman or whatever reasoning they need to sleep at night.
