[CANCER WARNING] The music that they were playing wasn't even considered metal by at least half of those women you mentioned. You're just naming female musicians in general. The fact that you have to shoe-horn in women on the fringes of metal instead of having a host of names from the core speaks more to the article's author's point. By 1975 we'd had the White Album, Delia Derbyshire, Frank Zappa, John Cage, the 13th Floor Elevators. The idea that Bolt Thrower is some sort of mind-blowing thing beyond the pale is silly. Also, punk was a wide genre as well. Lots of what came to be called goth was punk. particularly the Banshees. The Kinks were punk, as was the Clash. Psychedelic rock, punk, riot grrl, and hard rock do not fall under these. What's your criteria? Girl with an amp? Is Melissa Etheridge metal? Is Tori Amos because she covered "Reign in Blood?"
