Re-reading the books you've already read would be good. I liked "Sacred Influence" by Gary Thomas. If you search the "Focus on the Family" website, they have some really good podcasts on marriage. They just had Shanti Feldhahn and she was discussing her book "The Surprising Secrets of Highly Happy Marriages" and it sounded good. I've not read it though, but I like all of her other books.

I agree with the previous comments about establishing mutual respect and not tearing each other down. With that said,If you are in a conversation and this comes up, it's not about changing their mind, but sticking to your gut. I am a firm believer in the acknowledge and broken record approach when my opinion doesn't line up with the opinion of others. So if they say, "Sleep around, it's no big deal" I would say, "That probably works for you, but I'm waiting for a committed relationship." If they…

First of all, sex is not a bargaining chip. Continue treating him well in the bedroom and keeping yourself in shape through the pregnancy, but do not feel as though he gets special treatment because of a pregnancy. That doesn't make any sense. Secondly, I think you need to honestly lay your thoughts out there without expectation. Are you sorry you didn't get the abortion? If not, then don't apologize for it. Are you excited for this baby? If so, then tell him that. You don't have to rub it in hi…

If you are committed to going to the gym, then go for it! It's a healthy habit that isn't going to hurt. You might not see pounds fall off immediately in the way you would if you changed your diet, but learning to love the gym is a lifelong benefit. I used to HATE going to the gym, then one day decided I was an adult, and I needed to get my exercise in. Since then I've learned to love my 30 minutes of quiet zoning out on the elliptical. Yes, weights would get me toned and a good diet would get m…

Hang in there! Research has shown that moms feel the most stress from 3-6 months after a baby's birth, so you are right in the thick of it, but this too shall pass. It's the most emotionally draining experience, but it really does get better. My advice is to get on a schedule with him. Babywise is a great resource for this. I'd recommend listening to the book and finding blogs & Facebook groups that help explain it. At 5 months, he should be eating every 3.5-4 hours and taking some good naps, wh…

I work with high schoolers, and I can think of a few that match your description perfectly. She's lucky to have family that cares, and honestly that alone is the best help. My advice for you would be to go for a walk everyday and invite her along. Don't force her, just invite her. If there is a gym near by, maybe try some fitness classes together. Don't say anything about her weight, just demonstrate healthy habits. Tell her stories about when you were in high school and what you remember. Not "…
