Not sure about the US, but in Canada, women get 4 months as medical leave (due to the time to physically recover from pregnancy) and then a total of 8 additional months can be used by either parent. So it could be 6 months by the mom, followed by 6 months by the dad, or 4 for mom then 8 for dad, or 11 for mom and 1 for dad. Yes I did, and I think that it is horrible what happened in that circumstance. I just feel that instead of giving in to this new norm, that we should stand up for some of the suggestions made in the article. Particularly the one which would have given the cop the authority to take a look at the pictures and call off the investigation before it starts if he realizes that the pictures are nothing more than harmless family photos.

The problem is that if everyone decides that it isn't worth it, those grandparent are now missing out on some cute harmless pictures of their grandchildren on the beach or drying their underwear over the fire. Abuse of the system by some overzealous cops/child service workers should not be "fought" by giving in and accepting the new norm that you should double guess every action based on how it could be percieved.
