Fundamentally, my issue with his initial statement was this: he reacted negatively to a slight that wasn't intended as such. Fundamentally, that I don't think that is ever the correct response, especially when it's pretty clear that it wasn't intended. I don't mean to minimize his response, or in any way downplay his experience. Responding to someone asking you to explain something they don't understand by insulting them is, in my opinion, an asshole thing to do. That's all I'm trying to say. I'…

I've seen homeless women, too. Not as many as homeless men, it's true, but I've only ever seen a handful of homeless people - hardly a statistically significant sample. She was raped. That's pretty horrific. That's the sort of thing that hits you on a very deep, personal level - and the people she trusted, those in a position of power the she trusted to protect her, laughed in her face. I suspect that she has experienced far worse gender discrimination than she has ever seen a man experience. To…

Ah, but I wasn't responding to the OP, I was responding to your response. To me, responding with insults to someone who's comments are, honestly, perfectly understandable to me (as a man, I've never experienced any sort of discrimination, nor do I know anyone who has; if I'd never come to this subreddit, I would probably feel about the same way the OP seemed to: dismissive and curious about what all the hooplah was about) is just being an asshole. 'guarded' to me is not saying, "well, any RATION…

So, here's the thing. What the OP wrote is somewhat offensive/dismissive/whatever. I agree. We both think this, although probably to different degrees. Here is where I think the difference in thought comes into play: I see this and thought, "Gosh, this person really doesn't have a very solid understanding of the subject at hand, but they're asking for more information. I'll forgive the poor wording because it's probably the result of the ignorance they came here to try and cure." You evidently t…

I certainly respect that opinion, but I feel like you're going a bit far. I'm not at all knowledgeable about such things, but can't you get legally binding pre-nuptial agreements that address all of these concerns? I can certainly see how/why this would be an enormous issue for some person. If I was seriously considering marrying someone, and when I brought it up they said (and this is intentionally over the top, mind, I'm sure you can be tactful and respectful about it), "Well, I'd be willing t…

And you could try not being an asshole to someone who comes asking for information on something they don't know or understand very well. Or you could assume they're an asshole and just respond with a cockpu... ...oh. Carry on, then.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
