I wouldn't be surprised, sadly, if their reaction was an eyeroll and that they only skimmed your message. Those people are not in it for hard discussions.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this important topic. I've been thinking about the whole "women are more likely to seek help" thing recently and I've wondered, as a woman, why that is. Evidently it goes way beyond just "being stubborn" like people assume. I'm glad I know a little more.

Right on. It needs to be said. And he's Anishinaabe, like me! :) Pointing this out is not meant to take away from women and girls but to shine a light on the fact that a HUGE number of those of us that are murdered or go missing are men and boys, too. I think one of the reasons many of our indingenous cultures focus primarily on women is because a lot of women long ago were the matriarchs. Many still are today. All the time, everywhere I go, I see messages that are about taking care of and respe…

I think they touch on a good point that there is little organizing from the MRM, but to say there is nothing here or in other subreddits that demands for gender equality is obviously untrue. Also, feminism doesn't have complete ownership over equality, so I roll my eyes every time I see it being used in a r/gatekeeping manner. And even besides, feminism is far from innocent with all the feminist groups trying to shut down important films like The Red Pill or presentations from Warren Farrel and …

I love this article and 100% agree. Nothing irks me more than listening to or reading about "the glass ceiling." I'm a woman and I know of no such thing. If there is a limit for how far I can go, I immediately assume it's because I'm lacking in something, not because it's my gender preventing me from being successful. There is no "glass ceiling" for me, there are merely my own challenges to overcome. And what do you know, it's like opportunity and growth are suddenly endless... Hillary telling e…

Wow, what episode/season is that? I love the show but I don't recall that scene. Also, "No one wants to say it"? Pretty sure there's an abundance of people all over the Internet who say it every day. Especially yesterday.

"But there is no such thing as children's rights." And there it is. I would be shocked, but I can't say that I am. Nonetheless it is apalling someone tried to justify this genital mutilation especially by making it about the poor, poor parents and the threat to their "authority" by banning it. Screw this writer.

Anything in reference to male disposability. Just earlier today I stumbled upon a debate about providing accessible drinking water to impoverished native communities across Canada. Someone mentioned Trudeau's hypocrisy in allowing refugees into the country and helping them but not helping natives, to which a fellow native woman responded (paraphrasing): "You know there are a lot of refugees that are women and children!" I was already annoyed because of the selection bias, but then came some guy …

I think "romantic" was the original intent behind that scene, but it wasn't done very well if they were trying to convey romance or Rachel's "sexual awakening". Rachel is basically questioning her feelings in that scene and Decker is attempting to help her feel more alive with a kiss. However, Decker comes off as aggressive and Rachel seems VERY uncomfortable throughout the scene even when she submits to his advances, so to people who miss the intent behind that particular significant growth of …

That interview was such a joke. She tried to strawman him so many times but he successfully saw right through it all. This reminds me of another lecture by Jordan Peterson when he described "Devouring Mother Syndrome." It's when people intentionally or unintentionally make situations worse so that they stay needed and relevant. Cathy is a good example of that. "Look how sexist and transphobic this 'professor' is and how just and fair 'I' am!" is all I heard when she spoke. She wasn't trying to f…

I wouldn't say I've renounced leftist politics completely, but I do have a better and more nuanced understanding of extreme identity politics that can plague all sides, which I'm always improving every day. I'm grateful for this. I'm left-leaning, although I have some conservative values, and I try to look at every point of view objectively.

It's almost similar to devouring mother syndrome. They basically make some things worse -- unintentionally or not -- to make themselves stay relevant and needed.

That's awesome! The conversation happened and that's what's important. They don't have to change radically or anything, but the fact they're thinking about gender equality differently now even if in small ways is really all anyone needs to start bridging the gaps! :)

Like a few others here, I've gotten some consistently positive feedback whenever I talk about or share information about issues that primarily affect men or when something happens that benefits men (e.g more shelters, awareness for suicide, etc.). It's refreshing to see and I'm very happy that more people are taking part in the much needed conversation. THE FOLLOWING IS JUST SOMETHING I'VE TAKEN NOTE OF: I've noticed most people who recieve negative feedback usually bring up men's issues in orde…

Why as a woman with this particular complaint about society would she post pictures of herself half naked in a sexy manner on social media where hundreds of strangers can see her and think whatever they want to think -- because she can't control or dictate that -- and then later or before tell people it's a problem to focus on a woman's body? That's why I don't understand people like the beforementioned acquaintance. "DON'T SEXUALIZE ME!" posts half naked pictures "Except now, go for it." If any…

God, I hate how real this is. An acquaintance on facebook, who is a feminist, does stuff like the picture describes pretty often. Recently she posted something along the lines of: "Yuck, it's really sad how women are sexualized and objectified these days..." Literally that same fucking afternoon "Here are some pictures of me in Miami!!" They should be neutral until evidence or lack of proves either their guilt or innocense. This is why I don't think accusations or the names and pictures of the accused should be allowed to go so public until a sentence has been made on the fair chance someone is lying (kinda hard to do with celebrities, though).

Problem with me is I believe in personal accountability so there is no way I would do that, even if my future were on the line. There's always another opportunity that doesn't HAVE to come at the expense of anyone else. It'd be my own damn fault and I'd know it -- and this is coming from someone who DID screw up pretty massively in college a few times and was academically dismissed. But, I can see your point. For a MS and a thesis, I guess that's a whole other level of desperation.

From my understanding, in Cyntoia's case, she was not in immediate danger for her life and she had some control over her situation as well as the events surrounding the incident, so the killing of the man who PAID HER as a PROSTITUTE to have sex with him (who was also unarmed) was therefore deemed as murder and not self-defense like social media is making it out to be. I think because we use words like "pedophile" and "sex trafficking" that in turn makes vigilante justice seem OK in the eyes of …

I dunno. Seriously. I've had similar thoughts and observations many times. We've swung the pendulum of social equality in such a way that being "traditional" (e.g wanting to be a princess, wanting to be a stay at home wife and mother, wanting a boyfriend, not wanting to be an engineer, etc.) in any remote sense of the word is now somehow a bad thing. I'm all for encouraging people to look at all their options and to apply themselves if they want to but jesus the amount of disdain some people show to thos…

Agreed, especially with your last paragraph. There are still some good or at least decent people on all sides. Sometimes I look at feminism the same way I look at religion. I myself do believe in a higher power (totally OK if anyone here doesn't -- not my point) but I don't want to follow the rules or lifestyles of any specific religion, so I essentially "go my own way" and live with my own beliefs and I'm very happy that way. It's the same with how I approach gender equality. Of course I care a…

Feminists don't want to accept that women can be successful without feminism. This is probably one of my personal biggest gripes with some feminists. They love to boast about how feminism is all about giving beautiful, empowered women choice. Well, then that should include the choice for some of us women to not call ourselves feminists for whatever reason we feel like. Do they have to like it or agree? No, but the fact they don't isn't hurting me, either. And why they assume that means we "hate …

Great response, thanks so much! We have pretty much the same views when it comes to what we'd like to see more of for men. In my opinion, what other people think of me based on who they associate me with is not important; my actions are. I appreciate that you said this. I find most people are more focused on the label itself than the person's actions and you can see that in some of the responses to you. I can only speak for myself here, but I do appreciate what you have to say regarding Men's Rights. I'd love to know more about what you're doing for them! :) I am curious, however, since you identify as a feminist and are open to discussion. I do not partake in feminist communities so it's likely that I am simply ignorant to everything they're up to, but from what I've seen online the things most feminists push for is mostly for the benefit of women. That's fine (great in some cases), but I am b…

I think it's something that can happen to people from all sides of most issues. There is this tendency for most people to be "tribalistic" about their beliefs and feed into an "us vs. them" mentality whether we mean to or not. Everyone is sort of guilty of this because we all have bias and ego. Humanizing your "enemy" does not mean you necessarily agree with everything they have to say. It means you recognize where they're coming from, that almost nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and that …

I can support the message to keep the primary focus of this sub specifically on men's issues, but I disagree with ceasing all criticism against feminism. I don't necessarily agree with everything that is said about feminism or feminists here, and I think there has been more about their unhelpful hypocrisy than usual as of late, but I don't think the frustration is unwarranted. Certain subsets of feminism, unintentionally or not, perpetuate harmful attitudes towards men and many others have certa…

That sounds like an awesome program! I'd love to read an even more detailed post all about the cirriculmn or exercises you did from either you or someone who has been through it :) I genuinely want to see programs that are for men that focus on them... for them. Hi. I think feeling this way is primarily our own bias towards our gender showing itself to the surface and it can be ugly. We've been taught from a very young age to put women and their well being first. This bias runs deep and it can be tough to recognize or deal with. Acknowledging it's there is the first step. Don't misunderstand me: It's not bad to care about women, but the point is we don't, as a whole, have a lot of sympathy or consideration for men especially when we only think about how…

Yeah, even when the song first came out when I was 15 or 16 my first immediate thought about it was: "Well, have fun being sued OR getting a restraining order! I mean you were dumb enough to LEAVE YOUR NAME at the scene!" Being cheated on hurts, but that doesn't excuse a crime. But hey, apparently broken hearts and mental gymnastics trump my logic. "Oh calm down," they said, "It's supposed to be FUN! Of what we might do!" Alright. Now reverse the genders. Still fun?

So being in the top 1% has everything to do with the fact that they're men... but being in the bottom 20% has nothing to do with the fact that they're men. Feminism will fight against the top 1%... but the bottom 20%? Yeah, what does that have to do with feminism? I hope I'm misunderstanding her. She was kind of all over the place.

Honestly, I don't expect anything more or less from the Huffington Post. They seem to attract all sorts of people delusional enough to deduce boys as "less". The worst part is they make it all about themselves and how "HARD" it is for them as parents, you know, to actually parent, and instill a solid moral grounding no matter their gender.

The Fathers Rights Movement page on Facebook shared this video recently that touches on some of the reasons why courts are heavily biased and often in favour of the alienating parent in child custody battles. Something this man did not successfully address, according to some comments, is that there is little revenue to be gained if things were fair. I've read and commented on some posts on facebook today that are similar to this one. The number of people (sadly... mostly other women, from what I've personally seen) that try to justify, rationalize or flat out dismiss when rape, sexual harassment or sexual assault happens to a man or a boy is truly frightening. They perpetuate the same behaviour they claim to hate that's targetted towards female victims. I've called a number of them out on it, too, and I've told them: You cannot contain thes…

I wouldn't have a problem with it if men also had their own space to workout with all the exact same equipment and setup, but that's not the way it is, yet we all pay the same fee. So yes, in that regard it is NOT equal and is discriminatory. I used to justify it by referencing how uncomfortable I was (edit) with the possibility of* having guys watch me, so I enjoyed the privacy. But then I thought.... what if a guy doesn't want a girl to watch him? He has no choice. Caught myself.

It's very healthy in any relationship to have civil discussions that challenge your current worldviews. Society doesn't have much compassion for our prisoners and in general people are not concerned about what happens inside the facilities enough to incite any legal protest. I think her boyfriend meant well and it's definitely posssible that he was seeking outside comfort for the situation, but if he knew what his parents were like or how they would react, it was probably unwise to tell them about it. The fact his parents are calling her a murderer and will likely be inhospitable to her for a while could definitely cause some rifts and possibly destroy their relationship sooner or later. I only assume that because I've seen it happen, sadly. that they're opinions ar…

Rhaegar Targaryen divorced his wife and married a princess. It was revealed last season that Rhaegar was Jon's father and that Eddard Stark's sister was his mother. If Rhaegar were married, it would mean that Jon is actually a legimitate heir to the throne and not a bastard. Of course, Sam wouldn't know the importance of this information anyway. He didn't know who Jon's mother was or any of those other details, just that he was Ned's bastard. So the tweet is moot. Gilly's "reveal" was for us. Bu…

It's difficult to apply this question to my own professional life, but in general, yes, I feel insulted and very irritated when I read about something being made easier for women because we're women. If EVERYONE were failing to meet certain standards then I would understand modifying them, but lowering them just to cater to a particular group of people? All that tells me is they're pandering and performing lip service when they're supposed to be professionals training other professionals. I don'…

If they want a film about women or minorities in some significant event during WWII or any other war for that matter, cool, fine by me. Heroism is a joy to watch. But criticizing Nolan for not changing the genders or ethnicity of the soldiers during one of those historic events is ludicrous. If they can't see why, I don't know if there's any helping them.

I think what I personally appreciate most about this song is it can be loosely applied to almost any subject, as they don't indicate one. It doesn't say you're wrong (even if you might be), it just asks you to listen. Simple and beautiful! I love this film so much. Watching it again soon.

It really wasn't that sexist... maybe insensitive, depending on the entire context, but was it really worth money? Ridiculous. The article says that she claimed she was also being bullied and sexually harrassed, but it offers no explanation to back up these additional claims. that simply aren't there for men. Men face plenty of obstacles to get to the top as well. There are few top positions to begin with and they are extremely competitive. And like I said, there are a very small number of people, most of whom happen to be men, who are just crazy enough to be able to get those positions. It's a race and not many women are willing to participate. Edit: Jordan Peterson recommends asking a different question. It's not really a matter of "why aren't there more women in t…

I highly recommend watching this segment from a fantastic lecture by Dr. Jordan Peterson: "Career Women Hitting the Wall" https://youtu.be/tGGB3QArS5I I would not be surprised if workplace discrimination took place in some circumstances, but overall, it's difficult to argue against the fact that the average woman just doesn't want to put in the effort it takes to have a top position like CEO. What I see most often is frustration directed at the systems and societal norms that allow women to benefit at the expense of men and get treated better because a majority of people falsely believe they don't benefit at all. It's not overall anger directed at women in particular.

But on a larger scale, I wonder why so few women consider themselves MRAs. I think it's similar to why many people don't call themselves feminists, because the word is now associated with the third wave's craziness. Well, some people probably don't want to call themselves MRAs because of a few bad apples here and there, too. I'm not personally saying it's right or that MRAs compare to feminists these days, but I think what's happening is a lot of people don't want to be labeled when the label pr…

I watched a video recently on the Father's Rights Movement's facebook page that talked a little about this dilemma, in addition to why women are in the movement. In short, it's because men are generally (unintentionally/subconciously or not) assumed to be more aggressive or unapproachable and are therefore not to be trusted when having these conversations. It doesn't help that the overall feminist narrative has made things so detrimental for men by forcing everyone to consider women as the prior…

No "right"? Rejection is a consequence of dating, not a criminal act... if we go there next after bill C-51 here in Canada, I will lose my mind. If you can't support someone's lifestyle, accept them for who they are, or feel comfortable and happy for them, then you should not date that person. Go ahead and question why not, but be true to yourself. On the flipside, you can't expect everyone or anyone really to do all of that for you just because of who you are, what you do, or how you identify. …

this subreddit would rather talk shit about women than actually deal with men's issues. That isn't true. It is common for us to point out the prevalent double standards that exist between the sexes such as the courts and society in general favouriting women over men in many circumstances, but we also have plenty of discussions about what we want to accomplish and what we can do to help men everywhere. "Toxic masculinity" is such a broad and vague conception that it can be easily used on the internet to blame ALL men for all of our problems when that's clearly not true as they're often the victims of the way things are between the sexes. This sort of message is all kinds of wrong and backwards. I agree that the right person will make time for you and treat your relationship as a priority. But if they can't, well, then they can't. That doesn't make them a "bad" person or a "lesser" person (e.g men vs. "boys"). Arguably, it doesn't even mean that they're the WRONG person, especially if they have a crazy work schedule or a demanding ifestyle. All that could mean is they might not be in the right position to date right now. It's all…

I'm not a man, but I can relate to your struggle somewhat. I was indifferent to the subject of male circumcision for a long time as well. I thought it was a bit silly to refer to it as "mutilation" because I didn't see it that way. That is... until I actually saw it. My first exposure to the actual procedure of male circumcision was in Cassie Jaye's film The Red Pill. Briefly, near the end of the film, she shows a clip of a training video of an actual doctor cutting off the foreskin on a male ba…

The "Fearless Girl" statue has always bothered me, and I'm not trying to make an angry anti-feminist statement when I say that. As someone else already said, the Bull is supposed to represent economic progress and I think that symbolism was so very wrongly interpreted to have only benefited men when it was not made with that intention at all. Men happen to hold more positions in places like Wall Street, but the Bull artist was not somehow excluding women from progression. So... when they made th…

Thank YOU for your very kind response and encouragement! I agree about questioning everything (even on this side of things). It's a healthy thing to do and doing so can help us push each other in a better direction. I'll gladly help. I'm currently focusing on finishing school, moving in with my boyfriend and starting my career, but I feel very strongly about all of this, too, and I want to open up even more and speak about it. I'm ready. Thanks for your advice as well. I'll be doing some hefty c…

I see the value in what you're saying! Thanks for the idea. I'll definitely keep my eye out for that and do what I can.

Wonderful! Great idea, and I'll give you my full support! And you're right, at some point eventually it truly is up to politics and the people to even fund the project, but at least with enough exposure there is bound to be more traction and with that hopefully more people to advocate for more shelters to be built.

Oh believe me, I won't try to lose friends, haha. Unfortunately it's just been something I've personally witnessed; people dropping others for merely sharing an idea that's different - and they weren't even being disrespectful or pushy about it. So, I pray it doesn't come to that.

Thank you! I will be brave and start to do that on a regular basis with people I know. It could all begin with a simple conversation. I might lose friends (I hate to think it's THAT easy). But, I might gain new ones, too. I have to be positive.

Very true, and I also think the flipside to that problem is you can support both without having to call yourself either or. I think we tend to care too much about names more than what we're fighting for at times, but that's just my opinion.

I came here to Reddit to post something very similar :) I also hope that the information presented in films like The Red Pill will encourage people to ask questions and start to hold each other in equal value and equal regard . It might not happen tomorrow, a year from now, or within the next decade, but I, too, as a woman want to be part of this change. I will help the mens rights movement in any way that I can. I want to. I have to!

It was a long and steady process that spanned at least three or four years for me. I was 19 and I proudly called myself a feminist because it was easy to believe everything they said about us women being all things "oppressed" were true, from equal rights to social interractions. When those beliefs were challenged with contrasting information, I became defensive and aggressive, much like those annoying "SJWs" you see all over the Internet and on college campuses or Universities. I was very passi…

That whole thing brought tears to my eyes :'( I feel terrible for anyone going through this. It inspires me to be a great wife, and to only improve from there.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
