Well that's where I'm a little pissed off. We were headed in that sexual direction. But as soon as it was brought to the real world she put it at a distance.

I met a girl at a bar a week ago. We really clicked but I'm a bit worried she doesn't remember much from our initial meeting. Anyway, long story short I ended up with her number and we have soft plans to meet up and talk about lit (the topic we originally bonded over). We're planning on going to a bookstore but she mentioned bringing her friend. Any suggestions to go about that? EDIT: in the middle of typing that she mentioned needing to adjust plans to go over her bfs. Nevermind.

I don't know what posts you're referring to but I'd be curious to read them, because the idea that pick-up in Korea is no different than pick-up in America, is BULLSHIT. I'm really interested in what ways it's different. I just looked up "Korea" on Seddit and came up with ab unch of things (sorry if my typing is awkward, a little loaded). Many of them implying that the tools are no differently used in America vs. Korea. So I'm just wondering how to re-calibrate myself. You mention subtlety, can …

Leave every women you encounter better than you found her. Most PEOPLE, not just women, are reflectors. They will respond to you how you interact with them. So if you automatically assume they are going to give you shit tests (and they do), be flaky, and want alpha men, they will respond with that mindset. Be real with people. They will be real back. If they don't, don't interact with them. Real women are out there. They just take time and persistence to find.

Not sure how you figure that.

Ironically. You are attempting to shame me. If you actually look through the rest of this thread, it's filled with reasonable people willing to have discussions and examine viewpoints not exactly their own. Something that you seem unable to do. Instead you attack me, saying I'm an idiot and reduce all of my arguments to shaming techniques. And people wonder why MRAs are stereotyped as hate-filled bigots. This is pitiful. I won't be responding again.
/r/MensRights11/02/13 07:22 AM

It's not a shaming attempt. It's an attempt to reconcile how you sincerely can type something like "women are naturally submissive" and attempt to be taken seriously. The only conclusion I can come to is that you don't interact with society, therefore, how could you possibly own a computer or know how to use the internet? I have no idea. It boggles me.

Hot chick litmus test: walk up to her. Tell her she has nice tits. If she laughs and it sparks a conversation, good to go. If not, move on.

In terms of dating, I try to play the mirror. If a girl chooses to be a bitch, I'll play the asshole. If she wants to be cute and sweet, I'll reciprocate. Whenever a girl responds positively, I know it's a game worth playing, if she doesn't I move on. Occasionally you end up with a girl that's just honest and truthful. Being honest and truthful back is refreshing, nice, but unfortunately short-lived.

... Archeology just shows that's not true. It's an event referred to alternatively as the Kergan Revolution/Invasion, but it refers to a massive migration from Central Asia by a patriarchal uber tribe into Europe and the Middle East. Prior to the Kergans, a civilization of pacifist goddess-worshipping peoples (that were, without the Kergans, incredibly fascinating) inhabited Europe and were wiped out, not because of any sort of gender role reversal, but because the Kergans very explicitly used v…

You boggle my mind. It's hard for me to assume you are a rational person to hold a philosophical conversation based on the gender-bias of language when you tell me to "shove off" and prattle on about "wage slavery" like it's a deep seated gender issue, but I'll try. The concept of men being forced into wage slavery (and I'll assume that since this is a sex/gender-oriented sub that when you say "men" you're referring to "males") is more of a Labor issue and is on an entirely DIFFERENT subject mat…

I couldn't understand the second paragraph, but I'm really interested in what you mean... can you elaborate? This is the website for the organization. If you can't find a group near you, try giving them a call and finding out how you can start one! (The national organization was actually started by a guy, too. Again, it's less of a gender issue, unless we consider how girls are more likely to be forcibly aborted than boys in China)

I'm not sure how you draw that conclusion. Just because a woman identifies as "feminist" doesn't make her an automatic hypocrite, hatemonger, etc. Pushing forward that belief becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Just because your feminist girlfriends were terrible people and it was a horrible experience doesn't mean that was everyone else's. My experience dating a feminist was actually very positive. We had constructive conversations discussing how things like divorce and custody law were heavily…

Way to read. Divorce courts are absolutely not in men's favor. But there are a million fields that are. That's what "patriarchy" refers to. Saying "it doesn't exist" doesn't help our argument and further enforces the stereotype that MRAs are ignorant. The concept of an "implied masculine" is just that, "implied." It doesn't necessarily mean it only refers to men, but there is an implication that the reader/addressee is male, or female, because hey, when you address both, you just use the masculi…

I respectfully disagree. As someone else in this conversation said, if there was a comment that said, "Any guys knowledgeable with an '02 Honda Accord that can tell me what's wrong with my car?" isn't necessarily a sexist statement. It's operating on a very culturally normal idea that men are familiar with cars and women aren't. But if a woman sent a response and said, "I'll take a look at it," and the response to that is, "Sorry, I'm looking for a guy." Then that would be sexist.

The OP confirmed that, yes, the original FB poster was being sexist when he applied for the job and was rejected because "males need not apply." More information (like the OP's confirmation) is needed before we can say whether something is initially sexist or not.

Wow. I'm sorry man. What state, out of curiosity? I know Connecticut's gotten better with stuff like divorce and custody law. But I know in Ohio, you're better off killing your spouse than divorcing her. As long as you plead guilty, you can get out for good behavior in much less time.

I was raised by a mother who got $1k a month for the sole fact that she was the mother, and my father was a man. My mother proceeded to be a terrible human being while my father's influence is the only reason I'm not an abused troll without a mind of his own, and any good qualities I have come from him. Holy Christ. See, your KKK metaphor works both ways. Just because someone is a Conservative, someone believes affirmative action should be abolished, and thinks blacks are just lazy as a culture and should pull up their pants, get a job, and stop listening to rap, doesn't actually make someone a racist, and they are just as horrified at organizations like the KKK as the rest of us are. This may shock you, but I actually DATED someone who could be considered a radical Feminist. You think she woul…

... you're joking right? "He" isn't sexist because females are men. Homo sapiens. This is the most ridiculous retarded thing I've ever heard. It's people like you that makes Feminist straggles come to r/mensrights and call us all rapists. There is no The Patriarchy. Again, the reason some women come over here and call us all rapists. If we want MR to be a serious issue, then we have to admit there ARE in fact still areas of society that are biased in men's favor. Not admitting that and concentra…

I didn't know any of that. Thanks! Do you think a case could be made that since men are heavily prejudiced against in divorce and custody law, that it usually extends to things like daycare and other child services? That it's not an industry that should be gender-specific, especially if there are children from single homes without a father figure and that the inclusion of qualified, non-felony, non-sex offender, men would be beneficial and that their exclusion, especially for a qualified individ…

I wasn't implying English was a Romance language. Besides being my native tongue, my ancestry is Spanish and Italian (and Polish, but I know three words of it). So I can only speak for Romance languages and English because those are the only ones I know. Chinese is a nice language because all nouns are specifically gender-neutral and don't imply quantity until you specify.

I've said this like eight times already in this one conversation. YES. If someone refuses applicants on the basis of sex, then yes they are being sexist. Yes "people" would be fine to use. But we shouldn't get our boxers in a bunch if someone doesn't use the politically correct gender pronoun.

Originally I was going to say that, but I can't really speak for teenage girls having known so few and not being one. Is there a possible link to this video online?
/r/MensRights09/02/13 06:28 AM

Oh I totally understand that a deeper understanding on the language reveals it to be much less sexist than it sounds, but as you said, in practice it's a different story. Though I like the linguistic analysis. Definitely more in depth than I'm in the state of mind to go research and fill out myself. That subject would make a great full piece here and on r/Feminism.

I understand what you're saying and I agree. I know a lot of Feminists who are well-versed and don't generalize men as all being rapists. But a theme on this sub is that "all Feminists generalize and assume." I was basically saying that if we just assume that Feminists generalize assume, then we're just as bad as that which we think we're fighting against. So if we just have a knee-jerk reaction that when someone asks for a "girl to babysit" they're a sexist Feminist, then we're just fulfilling …

Audibly said to noone in particular, "Holy fucking shit." Then I remembered it was federally funded. Not sure what I was expecting. In the video's defense, I wouldn't let a teenager in my house alone. Nevermind a teenage boy. Having been a teenage boy (and as the older brother of two of them) it's probably still wise advice not to let teenage boys watch your children... though I highly doubt most of them will watch porn and "try out what they see" on your child. Um... read the post you responded to. I think there is a definite, socially-ingrained idea that women are inherent mothers but men are inherently uncaring. It's essentially the basis for divorce and custody law. Women are given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to custody of their children because, seriously, it's a MOM. When would a MOM ever be worse for her child than a molesty, uncaring father who just wants to leave his wife and go bang a college slut? I joined ChinaCare, an organizatio…

Understood. And any girl who wants to be a mechanic will probably understand that there's a certain amount of strength required. But, as I think OP's main point is, just because a certain occupation trends toward a certain gender, that doesn't mean 100% of the opposite gender refuses to do that job. Saying "Most women aren't strong enough to be mechanics" is just as bad as saying "Most men aren't caring/parental/unmolesty enough to be babysitters."

That was kind of my point to. The title of the post made it seem something horrifyingly sexist. I half-expected a, "ALL MEN ARE RACISTS" sort of image, but I was met with this and I had to read it twice over to figure out where the sexist part was. OP says there's a story involved though, but only after the context was added did it make more sense.

Yes, but women rightfully make the same argument in reference to patriarchal society. Philosophically, it would do best for us to end all sorts of linguistic sexism. But practically, it would be best for us to shrug and move on. As in the other comments, it's one thing for this woman to ask for possible babysitters, use the term "girls" when she means just people. It's an entirely different thing for her to reject male applicants because "men are molesters" is an entirely different thing (which …

I don't think it's sexist to say "Any guys 18 and over want to fix my car?" or "Any girls 18 and over want to apply for a babysitting position?" But it's obviously sexist if they say, "Oh thanks for applying, but I'm really looking for a guy/girl." Once we can see a guy/girl as just as likely to be a babysitter/mechanic (respectively) then we'll start using entirely neutral language. Until then, let's not be overly sensitive about it. Otherwise, we're just as bad as Feminists.

Sigh. Look, r/mensrights, I subscribed because I hate divorce law and think it's absolutely unnacceptable. But shit like this is fucking retarded. I love kids. I work with orphans and would love to work at a daycare. If I saw this status, I'd just ask if it was ok if I applied and if not, then I'd say it's sexist. But just saying that because she used the term "girls" doesn't automatically make the woman saying it a sexist. Is the phrase itself sexist? Maybe, but the entire English language (and…

As everyone has already mentioned, MLA citation and cite your sources with stats and all. I say be proactive and print your stats ahead of time and just attach them to your paper. If necessary, I say include the graphs and all.
