We'll have to wait and see. I figure she'll work a connection here or at home, plea out simple assault and get her visa pulled (which she apparently doesn't have anyway) then probably get deported. What I'm trying to get at is this isn't the hill we should die on.

No, he'd plea deal for simple assault and get put on probation like Hilton. ETA: if he had money and or connections.

And what do you think you or I would have gotten for hitting a flight attendant? Simple assault with a deferred sentence/probation? I still think this is classism, not sexism. Good ad hominem btw- really drives my point home.

Nah, Conrad Hilton pulled a similar stunt a few months back with the same type of non-punishment. This is a rich/connected thing, not a gender thing imo.

See, now that's the interesting part... Any other executive in her position would have stock options, bonuses, vesting requirements, etc. negotiated into their employment contract. Surely she's not "new" at that type of thing, running a division and all... So being married to the dude that owns the company gives her special entitlements when she leaves the company that aren't explicitly enumerated in her employment contract. I wonder what the board of directors has to say about that? Wouldn't an…

I don't know the ins and outs of defrauding the public, and I wouldn't want to slander someone, so I'll just say that what she's doing looks very suspect.

She also doxxed the organizer of a game jam for women and transwomen because it competed with her own game jam that was yet to be announced to the public. Oh by the way, the funds she solicited for her own game jam went directly into her personal PayPal account and she has yet to define dates, scope, etc. for her non-game-jam. I bet with all the stress she's going through right now, she can't even bring herself to put it on. I wonder what's going to happen to all the money she raised?

No outrage about how you have to be a gravely voiced bad-boy Adonis who can crush golf balls into dust between your pecs in order to be a hero in video games or comics though. It makes me happy to hear that. I get that not every homosexual feels the same way, so I usually watch my mouth when I'm around people I don't know. I treat it the same way as nigga, you know? I can only speak for myself. I might say something along the lines of "Ah, stop being such a fag." if you call it an early night instead of hanging out and having beers. But I don't mean anything by it. I will not, REPEAT, WILL NOT use the fact that you're homosexual to promote a viewpoint, idea, or agenda that I'm passionate about. I know it costs a few thousand to set up (depending on complexity, I'd wager it can get more expensive than that) and it not only protects assets from third parties, it also reduces or eliminates the risk that assets will be taken in probate court or by death tax or estate tax. Furthermore, part of the assets can be allocated in a trust that prevents their use to pay end of life costs or health care costs. Currently, the government will use your assets to pay for end of life care, hospice care, …

What I meant by "in theory" was "what would happen if the law was applied evenly to men and women in this scenario." Perhaps I'm biased because of life experiences, but I've had a few friends live through this. All but one were in deep shit. The other went back to his home country before the ball could get rolling. In all cases, both parties were hammered off their asses, and the men were named and shamed as rapists, wholesale. The women were painted as helpless victims, ignorant of anything abo…

Seriously though, women made significant contributions during WW2. Initially industrialists didn't take the labor shortage seriously, but as the war dragged on and escalated, women played a huge role offsetting the labor shortage. These guys (Op, Ant, Jimmy, and usually their guests) are ON POINT so frequently when it comes to sensationalist news, bs politics, double standards, and ham-handed political correctness. I know many people just dismiss them as "shock jocks" or low brow comedy, but there's much more to take away from their show than laughs. For instance, at the end of this show, they interviewed the secret service agent that was riding in the car when JFK got shot.

I agree with the following caveat: It was gender profiling by untrained employees at an ice cream shop. That doesn't make it right, but in my mind it helps you uncover the root cause of the problem. It also gives some clues for how this problem can be resolved better in the future. Security can't simply ignore complaints, but they also can't make international news when following up on a complaint. If this thread was a drinking game, you'd be hammered from all the times I've said training!
/r/MensRights10/10/11 03:59 PM
4

It isn't a fair comparison. Unprovoked racial profiling by police officers is a totally different animal to a private security guard responding to a complaint (legitimacy of the complaint aside) made by a mall employee. Security did speak to him first. Obviously something in that interaction caused mall security to escalate things to the local PD. Again, I think the training, or lack thereof, that security personnel receive is the root cause of this problem.

Read my other post in here about why I think this situation went poorly. The shopping center didn't think anything. The shopping center isn't a monolithic single mind. An employee of a vendor in the center called security and said something along the lines of "There's some creepy dude here taking pictures of a little kid." Security responded to the information they were given. TLDR: Train your security personnel to handle delicate situations delicately.
/r/MensRights10/10/11 03:00 PM
2

If what the shopping center says is true and they have a posted policy stating that you can't take photographs on their property; they had every right to question him and the scenario you bring up isn't a fair comparison. At the risk of sounding trite: Our justice system at its foundation has the presumption of "innocence until proven guilty." Yet when a shade of doubt is cast on a rape accusation, the skeptics, the people who rightly subscribe to the presumption of innocence are dubbed "rape apologists." Yet another double standard that needs to be taken out back and shot.

Ok, I think I understand. However, given the definition you quoted, don't you think that equality vs. equity is a smaller part of being a good and successful person? In essence, aren't there many more (and more important) mechanics at play? Respect, work ethic, time management, morality, critical thinking, charity, skepticism, etc. If so, by your own standards, equality vs. equity should carry less weight in determining what elements of parenting are truly important.

I wasn't really agreeing with them so much as I was trying to interpret what they said. It may not be in this thread, and it may get downvoted to hell, but you're kidding yourself if you don't see some of the more "militant" or affected members of the MRM heading towards that. Any time that behavior is evident in an organization, it's only a matter of time before you have radicals, fundamentalists, and then the rest of them saying "no, no, we're not all like that!" Let's look at this comment chain for example, and expand on what I was trying to say earlier. I'm not trying to get do…

Any time you make a generalization like that, you're spitting in the face of people that go against it. Let's say for the sake of argument that 25% of my graduating class of engineers was women. In reality it was a little higher, but the number escapes me at the moment, and I want to keep the math easy. That was a class of 200 people. You're totally ignoring the contributions that 50 people are going to make over their careers if you boil things down to "men are value adders, women are value des…

Came in here to say what you said more or less. The innovators/memorizers and Value adders/value destroyers dichotomy is false as a generalization and damaging the the men's rights movement. Totally shot the credibility of this otherwise great article to shit.

A common-law marriage can still be contracted in the District of Columbia and over ten states: Alabama, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, and Texas included.[20][21] Additionally, New Hampshire law provides for posthumous recognition of common-law marriage in probate cases; and Utah will recognize a common-law marriage if the parties get a judicial decree to the effect a common law-marriage exists or existed between them. Otherwise, common-law marriag…

I absolutely would turn her down. If a woman isn't driven enough to go out and make something of herself, no amount of hotness in the would would make me want to be in a committed relationship with her. She'd just be trading her parents supporting her with me supporting her. Fuck that noise.

Be careful with point number two there, you're comparing a crime against someone's person with a property crime. That tends to piss a lot of people off. I'll respond as I did to others in this thread. What you're wearing has no effect on a "random unprovoked" rape in an alleyway. It has a lot to do with attracting a guy's attention, flirting with him, and making him think you're DTF as you both get drunk at a bar. Not saying it's right, but in his drunk mind, it's a lot easier to rationalize hav…

I think she was talking about being smart in a "date rape" context rather than a "knife to the neck in an alley rape" context. You're both right, but you're right about different scenarios.

I'm with you on all of your points, save one addition. If both parties are drunk, why is the man a rapist and the woman a victim? If she consented while drunk, and he consented while drunk, and they did the nasty, how come the rug gets pulled out from under him but not her? It might not happen a lot, but I've seen it destroy enough lives to make me want to come on reddit and argue err... discuss it enthusiastically at least. Unless I got my replies mixed up, I think I clued you in on whiskey dic…

Preach it! I don't think the argument is stupid. I think the way either side is going about their arguments and demonizing the opposing side is stupid however, and detrimental to the criminal justice system and equal rights.

Haha, coffee is coffee except when it's not. Even when it is, its possible to sweet talk her into other things. As for your question, it depends but I know its a lot. Frankly, I've never had it "not work." The more problematic issues, I think, are blackout drinking, and decision making while drunk. In my experience, sleep deprivation is more closely linked to blackout spells than excessive drinking. I remember nights where I've pounded an entire bottle of Jager and threw up into a garbage pail a…

All good points. However, remember that "drunk" is blowing a .08 in the eyes of the law. If a guy beds a girl and she tells people the next day that she was "drunk" he's fucked, so fucked if she wants to press charges or gets coerced into pressing charges. This is regardless of how drunk she actually was. Our justice system is wired so that a drunk girl having sex with drunk guy is a guy raping a girl. If you are both so drunk that you cannot consent, don't have sex. If they're both that drunk, …

Trivial, yes, but it's still a factor. Sociopath rapists aside, I think it would be easier for a drunk guy to rationalize sleeping with a drunk girl who goes home with him when they've been flirting all night and she's dressed all hot. Not saying its right, but I could envision that thought process.

Again, I'm with you 95%, but I can't commit fully to agreeing. You say: Rapists don't rape somebody cause they're wearing a short skirt. No, but if I was single and out at a bar, I'd sure as hell flirt with you, maybe even buy you a drink. The problem arises at the end of the night when we both jump in a taxi. We both know we're going to my place, and we both know we aren't having any damn "coffee" when I ask you to come in. Even if I ask you if you want some sexytime, it doesn't matter because …

I think you might have read my post while I was editing it, so you might want to check out the last part. As I said to the other reply, I'm talking about a different scenario than the one you were involved in and what most people think of when they hear about a rape. To your second point, Broseph probably started flirting with her at the bar because of her clothing. Again, different scenario than the one you're envisioning. I'll put an edit at the end of my post that I hope will clarify things f…

I agree with everything you said except for one point. I'm not talking about "rapists targeting drunk and vulnerable people." I'm talking about two otherwise normal people making a series of bad decisions thanks to alcohol and poor communication. The very common scenario I posed above is a far cry from someone picking a random woman on the street at night and raping her with a knife to her throat, or a person in power exerting his power to sexually abuse a subordinate. As such, the parameters I …

Except there is no evidence that what you wear affects your chances of being raped. None. When suddenly: The fact is, sluttily dressed girls don't get raped more, or assaulted more. They get assaulted less than normally-dressed girls. ಠ_ಠ The reason he harassed you didn't have anything to do with what you were wearing or what they were wearing. It was probably the fact that you were by yourself, and they were in groups. Lets cut through the bullshit. When we talk about "don't dress slutty, don't…

Here's my thoughts on the whole matter from the slutwalk thread yesterday: Rape is never the victim's fault. That said, dressing slutty, flirting with bros all night, and getting blackout drunk in a frat house probably isn't a solid plan for avoiding date rape. Edit: Downvotes? Really? I guess the scenario I laid out above is actually a GREAT WAY to keep a drunk spray tanned gym monkey from tongue punching your fart box. Damn my primitive male brain and the common fucking sense it affords me. TL…

NO HUMAN BEING needs to shower every week for health reasons. Sure you do. If you stink to hell from BO and not showering, your bunkmates will beat your ass and clean you with scotchbrite pads which is highly detrimental to your health. Would you want to be in a barracks with 49 other people who stank like shit? How about for 9 months on end? That will send morale straight through the floor.

He was a typical chest pounding football playing jock in high school. A bit of a bully, but generally a nice guy. Quick to anger, VERY thin skinned, and walked around with a chip on his shoulder. After BUDS, it was next to impossible to piss the guy off. He seemed like he was constantly thinking about something and seemed like he was miles away while a few of us were bullshitting at a bar. Still a nice enough guy, but much more sedate and distant.

Can a woman carry another member of a fire team a few miles to an extraction point? Because the other 4 people on the team can, and their chances of making it home safely will decrease if there are 4 people taking turns carrying a wounded person rather than 5. Shit like this isn't a fucking game. I have a lot of friends who serve and they need all the help they can get. You've already got a misguided prosecutor pushing for what amounts to a felony sex offence on this guy. And in my 10 years in school and in industry, I've never heard someone say that stereotypical line to a woman. Not seriously anyway. Let me guess... you're a labor lawyer? These weren't co-workers. I haven't heard an iota of complaint from PRACTICING female engineers. All the complaints I heard were from girls still in school, parroting the sentiments of a few disgruntled professors that had a bad experience back when engineering was a "good old boys" club, before they beat a hasty retreat to the relative safety of academia. . Well shit. I had to listen to this same perceived "experience" from multiple female engineers. What makes women think that the level of competition, standoffish colleagues, or elitist dickwaving has anything to do with them? Why the fuck are they so special? A male engineer is just as likely to one-up, shit talk, or laugh at the mistakes of another male engineer as he is to do the same to a female engineer. Boo fucking hoo. You're in a competitive field.
