It's usually for when someone is in a car accident, and their heart stops and they need CPR, some passerby stops and administers CPR, saves their life. For some stupid reason (because people are over-litigious assholes), the person who got CPR sues the person who saved them. The good samaritan law prevents the person from filing a law suit.
