The system… amongst men is hardly even questioned Bio-social interactionism If the system is based on bio-social interactionism, then if you argue that we still operate under the traditional gender roles, are you saying that society hasn't changed? The only way for the gender roles to be the same as traditional systems is if the society, or the parts pertaining to men and women, remained the same. I doubt a 1920's man would have talked much about how much of a player he was, since a lack of effe…

Ok, I just think that irrespective of if you agree with the use of these specific terms, the principle that it's important to closely define what we mean by our language is highly important for any proper debate. Feminism may or may not have plenty of superfluous jargon, but even if it does, the principle that we need to define closely our terms still stands. I felt like you were making an attack on "gibberish" in general, and implying that the principle behind it isn't sound. I suppose that's m…

I don't really want to be the other guy either, but I guess I feel I should say something on the matter. In sciences such as Physics and Chemistry, we have to use specialist vocabulary. It's no use having one word for quarks, electrons and neutrinos. We need to be specific when we talk about it. Of course, this comes at the cost of an outsider to physics thinking I'm talking utter gibberish if I mention Beta negative decay, or wave function collapse. But it's necessary to be specific enough to d…

I am asking for you to tell me certain facts about men's experiences under the gender system. I don't mean to sound rude, but I'm not sure if this request will actually help you. Men's experiences, whether in anecdotal form or in the form of a peer reviewed study, will not serve to validate or invalidate your claims about certain aspects of traditional gender roles. This is because "how society traditionally understands gender roles" is an absolute set of axioms about gender, which you're lookin…

Thanks for your reassurance! I'm glad you managed to rationally look at it as well as emotionally, and if as you say the facts are on his side, he has my full support in his case. Wish him good luck from me for one!

I'm glad that, as (almost) everyone here would agree, you think that judging men before being found guilty of any crime is wrong. I similarly believe that your boyfriend should not be judged unless there is evidence which is solid enough to demonstrate guilt- that is not someone else's word. What she did when going behind his back was inadmissible. Just a quick question though, does he have any alibis or people who were present at the time/location in question? I'm not questioning your commitmen…

I'd hope no one thinks "If only girls got lower marks" because that's not at all the solution, and well done! I come from a top mixed school, and as far as I can tell, we all did about as well in our i/GCSE's as each other this year, controlling for subjects. I know exactly what you mean about schooling being the biggest influence, and I agree entirely. Additionally it's important to accept that the whole point of an exam is to differentiate students, not to give equal results. But I guess the q…

Added to the fact that men are less likely to go and see a doctor about their health- I would have thought that would be a pretty big cause for the disparity. Also, I assume skin cancer treatment is the same for both genders, so how does funding come into it?

Ok, I think there's something important to establish early on. Telling someone who is psychologically troubled objectively what happened, in it's entirety, may not be a good thing. People tend to instead help them through their issue. However, in this context I'm attempting to talk about rape objectively, and am not discussing how to treat someone who has suffered so terrible a crime. Thus, as you quote me: if you hadn't done that thing, the crime would most probably not have occurred This is ob…

I think it's important to establish that not being able to prove a case of, for example, rape does not necessarily mean that it didn't occur, and I think it's both unreasonable and downright stupid to assert that the accuser must be lying in all of these instances. Just a quick question for you. You mentioned victim blaming. Although the actions of a rapist are horrible, I don't believe they are a product of a system, but simply the actions of a nasty person. And nasty people who are looking for…

I think the word "falsely" is missing, I mean a world where women couldn't accuse would be pretty dire…

I agree with you, although I'm not sure how, for example, the difference in physical requirements should be classed. It's not true equality of opportunity, because there are differences in application for different people. But at the same time nor is it equality of outcomes, because under that system there could still be 99% men or women in the armed forces. It's an odd compromise, and I see it as more an argument under equal opportunity, so I wanted to make it clear if anyone classes it as such…

In principle yes. But it depends on how you interpret equal opportunity. Is giving women lower standards to enter the military "equal opportunity" because it gives an average woman an equal opportunity to enter as an average man? Because I believe that this should be avoided; the basis of equal opportunity should be giving equal treatment to everyone irrespective of any variation due to gender, race etc.

Just my opinion, if a "funny" T-shirt like this is on sale and people buy it, free market capitalism should mean it can keep on being sold. It's important to point out the real victory here wasn't stopping this T shirt from being sold in an attempt to censor "jokes", but by making people realise the ridiculous double standard society has between boys and girls, and actually not find the "joke" funny

This sub values freedom of speech and debate, but I think you're right that occasionally down/up-vote brigades can come here from either side of the argument. I like the idea

I appreciate that if you are sitting an exam, you don't want to argue, but what's the reasoning behind the school making you shave? Did they say there was a reason?

Egalitarianism is the general term for equality of genders, race, sexual orientation etc. You may be thinking of masculism but that was, I believe, an offshot of feminism and most people here would not identify as such.
