Probably depends on how you define "force". It seems the threshold to manipulate these days is a smile or a joke.

Yeah I just don't get arguments about men being free sexually. Or that women are shamed more than men. That does not reflect my experience at all as a man.

All I've done is shared my experiences and you're triggered. Porn and sex are not easy discussions. There are grey areas all over the place and you can't take things as simple black and white. How am I judgemental when I'm out here saying straight out that I've looked at porn too? You really think I'm out here judging people? I understand first hand how porn makes me feel. I've gone back and forth between use and not using and I generally do better, am more social, and am happier when I am not. …

If you're doing it to push some kind of strange anti-porn agenda, yeah I never said I was doing that. You're making assumptions. And apparently you know about the porn habits of every man around you. I explicitly stated the men that I am close enough to talk about it have. My brothers, close friends, therapists. Again, you're making assumptions. Porn is what you want to make of it. If it's right for you, that's fine. For some it isn't right for them and choose not to. Who am I to judge?

Um okay. Yeah I just make stuff up for the sake of making stuff up.

Meaning all the men I know that used porn also struggled with porn due to it becoming a dependency and/or impacting their relationships.

I guess I can't speak for all or the majority of men. But I can say that all the men I know that used porn also struggled with porn due to it becoming a dependency and/or impacting their relationships.

Jordan Peterson collabs with all the big left wing male advocate names. Just cuz they have spoken or interviewed, it does not automatically lump them into Jordan Peterson camp.

Yeah I honestly don't remember what he did or did not say about female porn. My impression is that he didn't try to beat the point down about men using hardcore porn. But you've read it more recently than I have so it's probably more fresh in your memory. Overall I was mostly concerned with recontextualizing why I got into some addictive habits as a youth and it helped me understand myself better, so I may have ignored some of that stuff. I didn't really get into hardcore stuff myself, but it's …

Yes I've read this and several other Jonathan Haidt books. I read it over a year ago and didn't take any notes, but my overall impression was that he was addressing the technological advances that took place during our generation and how it shaped us. I relate to it a lot. Played lots of video games, struggled with porn, and struggled to find purpose and meaning. I isolated a lot and did not have as much community as I needed. I don't view it as puritan or shaming. Jonathan Haidt himself is athe…

Yeah that's probably true. I like attention even from gay men if I'm being completely honest being completely straight lol. But I can at least admit that.

Okay. Take a parent or professor giving a child or student constructive criticism with good intention. The individual can take the criticism as "hurt" or they can take it as "feedback." They can take it as rudeness or help. The way they interpret the judgement they are receiving is subjective. One person could take the same criticism and think they are trying to help rather than criticize. How can you say monarchies hurt people? That can only be interpreted subjectively. This is exactly why some…

This. The same women that complain women can't go outside topless, support sex work, and porn also complain about "objectification." So what is it? I had an ex that complained to me about going to the gym and getting looks from all the men. I told her "be honest, you love it and wouldn't have it any other way."
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates16/11/25 07:00 AM

Lol. Prove it then. How can you prove monarchies (a mere social construct) hurt people? It's unprovable. It's unmeasurable. Not like a science experiment where you can replicate all the same variables and get the same answer every time. Objectivity only exists in physical sciences. There is no such thing as objectivity when talking about morality. Any classic philosopher that studies morality would say the same.

Those are both subjective statements my friend. They're based solely on perspective. To say something hurts someone is a judgement of the action they are doing. If one person can think they are hurting themselves and they think they are benefitting themselves, then there is room for subjectivity over their disagreement. Hurt and benefit are subjective statements and the only objective thing is the action taking place. So you think men are intentionally oppressing women and that that is an absolu…

To feel trapped, imprisoned, or in a tightly defined role is all subjective. And the claim monarchies hurt monarchs is subjective as well. The word hurt is also subjective. To some what looks like opportunity can feel like being trapped and vice versa. There's always a tug of war between freedom and security. Any time you want more of one, you often have to sacrifice a little of the other. I find it more productive to talk and think of it that way instead of subjective statements that men are in…

I hate it when I hear "patriarchy hurts men too." So men are intentionally hurting themselves... Okay. Also, how do you explain that 50% of the female population prefers "the patriarchy"? It seems like the assumption is that women can't think for themselves and those women have been duped by the patriarchy. Is it still patriarchy if women support it too and it also hurts men?

I don't think the majority on this sub or left wing male awareness are arguing that women should be drafted into auxiliary roles. The draft exists to meet a demand. If there are enough people enlisted, a draft wouldnt be required. I'd argue that, for instance in WW2, where women filled men's previous roles and voluntarily supported the war effort already met the demand out of need of economic survival. Also, even if your argument stands and women were drafted into auxiliary positions, there woul…

I'm personally for abolishing the draft requirement completely So you'd say volunteer only. Fine. So how then do we confront imminent danger to the country? Do we just make it voluntary and if there aren't enough recruits, we just surrender? In an ideal world war wouldn't exist. But it does. The draft doesn't dictate that imminent danger exists. How is that "Equal" or "Fair"? Interesting you bring up equality and fairness. They are different principles. Equality means everyone gets the same chan…

People have the right to live how they want. Yes. But you definitely lose your rights if another country is trying to kill you. Are you just going to ask them nicely to stop attacking you?

Sorry. I have a wife and 2 kids. If both of us were drafted in the lottery, I'd be pissed. If she was drafted and not me, I'd also be pissed. I'd probably disagree with the war altogether to be honest. But there is no scenario that I am okay with women being drafted into military service.

I have no idea why it's this way. I do get jealous of female coworkers wearing sleeveless. That's gym attire for men. Working from home is pretty lax and I actually left a sleeveless on after going to the gym for lunch. I just took one call with a woman and it's immediately noticable. She asked about it. No big deal or anything. But if it had been someone up the corporate chain, I would have changed real quick. This might be off topic since you mostly meant in the office. But I also think social…

Even if women had been drafted to support, I think my point remains that we generally do not want to send women to the front lines of battle. Are people arguing here that women should be drafted to support the war effort, but not go to the front lines? Are they arguing no draft at all for men?

Okay. So what would you suggest if there is a shortage of military personnel? I realize most or all wars are controversial. But if we can somehow assume the war is essential for our safety, perhaps similar to the circumstance in Ukraine where they have had a draft. Do we just surrender the fight because not enough people are willing to fight?

Also individuals. What are you asking? If you don't want a war, the best you can do is vote for an individual you think will be against a war.

Women vote for individuals. We don't have separate votes for wars. I personally do not want to see women having to fight in war.

But how were men socialized to begin with? I don't always buy socialization as a final answer because how did socialization happen to begin with? I think a lot of it has to do with instinctual efficiencies. You can tell from a very young age that young boys simply care about different things than young girls with little intervention.

The draft itself, I am not a fan of. But I don't want women and children ever have to defend the country. I'm okay with it that way. I'd only like that it is acknowledged by women and vets need resources. Men are primarily responsible for safety and security. It's instinctual to us. Women don't understand it at all. The same way men don't understand things about women. And when we try to do things to provide security , we are often criticized for being controlling, when we just want to be heard.…

Look I really feel for you and get you because I've had pretty much every thought you've expressed here. But what I hear you saying, and believe me, I've said all these things too, is that women, people, culture, "they" say this, but then also say that. They are contradicting each other. You are trying to please both them and the other them. You gotta face the fact you're not going to be able to please everybody and just decide what you can do best since you won't be able to control anybody's op…

True. I know at least one stay at home dad. I just don't think men can set that as an aspiration. While women are more likely to expect it.

I consider myself fiscally liberal and lean socially conservative. I usually just tell myself I'm moderate. But I don't like putting myself in a box because beliefs should be nuanced and not just cater to a group. Unfortunately that mix leads to an amount of loneliness because it's difficult to find people that can have that level of nuance. I like liberal authors like Warren Farrell, Mary Harrington, and Louise Perry who have a more grounded on fair view on feminism. I don't agree with everythi…

To be honest. I don't think men are naturally driven to any of the "performative" manly functions without social conditioning. I can say for myself, a lot of the more manly things I've learned to do all came from the stereotype of men's functions. I don't think that's a bad thing. It creates hard workers of us. I don't think this conditioning is toxic either. It builds the world and creates tough men. Women seem to want men to simply set themselves free. But we can't because we simply don't have…

I guess no one has choice or free will in this world. We're just subjects of our bodies' inherent nature and it's best if we just sit back and watch it unfold instead of taking ownership and accountability for our lives. Smh.

The only place you could argue men are socialized to act this way is through media. Movies and TV shows. If we're playing their game of making blanket assumptions about gender, then we'd make an immature statement like this: "It's women that sexualize themselves that teach men that they need sex."

This is what I don't get about liberal feminism. They'll correctly get so uptight about racist generalizations made about Mexicans "being rapists". But quickly generalize men as "you're a man, you'd probably start a war if you were in power too." The wives of world dictators seem awful complicit. Ya really think they're any different?
