You have to unlearn all the negativity that you either went through or put yourself through. It’s a hard experience at first and then you realize what’s important to you. Both from yourself and your relationships and that gets addicting in a very good way. You learn new hobbies or relearn old ones and you start building yourself back up better than before. Everyday it will be the first thing you think about, and then one day it won’t be.

I think it was one of the best things I did. My therapist helped me realize just how unhappy I was and really changed how I view relationships. It gave me the tools to identify what aspects of a relationship are nonnegotiable, acceptable and how I want to be treated. In my marriage I just had to accept that I’m not allowed to get or feel what I want and I never wanted to cause a fight. Whether those statements are true or not, you can’t change the past. Learn from the mistakes you made and incorporate that into yourself and your next relationship. Her opinion should hold absolutely no weight.
