I don't think you're actually humble.

Probably because Half the Sky is about current rights violations with a specific focus on women and girls, not past violations against men and boys. edit: Anne Rice wrote an interesting novel from the POV of a castrato called Cry to Heaven. It's pretty good!

Probably the same amount that swept the country last month when this news crept onto the national stage, shuffled its feet for a minute, then wandered off. Which is to say a resounding meh. Would you say this kid was well-compensated for his ordeal? Because I sure would.

It's Friday night and I have a date, but you can look at the previous sourced stuff I posted earlier in this thread if you want. I don't think you're arguing in good faith, though. Bye

That is an enormous wall of unsourced anecdata.

I think that both the MRM and feminists could do some real hand-in-hand good on this topic. No one wants prisons to be as shitty as they are now. It's hard to see eye to eye on many issues, but this is one where both women and men would benefit immensely from a united political front and a mutual political push.

You're right, we are off-topic. I think that the subject of prison reform is so incredibly important, though, and it's probably always a good thing when it comes up for discussion. Awareness is key. I think that the modern prison system is so backward and abusive. My cousin and my best friend's husband are both prison guards (one in Mass. and one in OR, both fairly progressive states), and the stories they tell are awful. It's good to get fired up and want to help make change happen. When was th…

OK, I misunderstood your reply. You might be right here; more men may be raping other men in prison but they might not be reporting it. It's a source of great shame for a lot of men to be violated by another man, so that would make sense. One thing feminism has done is make it clear that victims are always just that: victims. Shame is an enormous by-product of sexual abuse, and the lack of reporting has a lot to do with shame. Feminism has done a lot to teach both women and men that sexual assau…

Why would you leap directly to false accusations when that wasn't even implied?
/r/MensRights26/07/13 07:33 PM

You're dealing with a wildly different environment and population in prison than on the outside. Mental illness, isolation, and a tendency toward criminal behavior are all endemic in the prison population. Also, there are no women for men to assault in male-only prison populations. If there were, I am sure rape statistics would shift dramatically. There is not a woman-on-woman rape epidemic outside of prison. Prison reform is a huge issue and you're right to insinuate that feminism should be mor…

So you think feminists support male rape? Honestly? Also, if you actually read the article you cite it says that more women are implicated in inmate violence than men. I cannot believe I got trolled into even replying to you in a meaningful way.

Source is the Department of Justice: Female prisoners (4.7 percent) were more than twice as likely as male prisoners (1.9 percent) to report experiencing sexual victimization by another prisoner. Jail inmates reported a similar pattern of inmate-on-inmate sexual victimization (3.1 percent for females compared to 1.3 percent for males). Again - not the oppression olympics. Prison sucks for everyone. But those are facts.

If it were sooooo much worse for women as you claim (unsourced) why isn't feminism working on it? From the DOJ: "Female prisoners (4.7 percent) were more than twice as likely as male prisoners (1.9 percent) to report experiencing sexual victimization by another prisoner. Jail inmates reported a similar pattern of inmate-on-inmate sexual victimization (3.1 percent for females compared to 1.3 percent for males)." As far as feminism working on it, one of the earliest goals of the nascent feminist m…

Prison is terrible for everyone, but women inmates are far more likely to experience inmate-on-inmate sexual assault. All the prison rape statistics include ALL prisoners, not just men, so it's a disingenuous manipulation of statistics to say that more men are raped in prison than there are women being raped outside of prison. That said, it's not a contest, and prison reform is a HUGE issue that the MRM could be working harder toward. It would do a lot of men a lot more good if you were to turn …

Yeah, I'm an avid /r/thebluepill and /r/againstmensrights poster. I disagree with about 80% of what goes down in here and with nearly every smidgen of what goes down with the redpillians. But I have to give the mods of this subreddit huge amounts of credit for refusing to ban all but the most blatant rulebreakers and trolls. I haven't used the privilege to post/argue in here very often, but it's a feather in your cap that you're at least willing to tolerate some dissent and criticism instead of …

That child support isn't an arbitrary or capricious "unilateral decision" on the part of the custodial parent. It's a system set up by society and backed by law for the benefit of the children. But seriously, I have to get dinner on the table. Good night.
/r/MensRights10/06/13 10:53 PM

But it's not one person. It's the mother custodial parent with the full support of the courts and society behind her (or him). By your logic, taxes are also a unilateral decision about a person's financial obligations. You might even think taxes are unfair! That doesn't negate tax law or your responsibility to pay your taxes, though.
/r/MensRights10/06/13 10:45 PM

You simply aren't making sense here. Labor is not bodily integrity. We are not discussing forced labor. We're discussing court mandated child support, which is a portion of a paycheck. If a paying parent is unable to work due to illness or unemployment, she or he is not required to move to an internment camp or endure forced labor. edit: I think you and I just have hopelessly different views on what constitutes actual slavery. No amount of discussion is going to change either of our minds, so I'…

So we agree on not punishing babies for fathers' and mothers' mistakes. That's good. But can you see that violating someone else's body (ie, forcing an unwanted abortion through violence or poison) is and should be a crime? This is one of the few times I can get behind biotruths. Biologically, only women can bear children. Therefore, that decision is and will always be an essentially unilateral one. She might act on input from or even on the desires of other parties, but the abortion takes place…

yeah, don't know why I bothered, as you represent the loco extreme of your people
/r/MensRights10/06/13 10:04 PM

They certainly didn't until very, very recently in history. Even now men who choose not to pay court-mandated child support get away with it more often than not. Only in the past couple of decades have any laws with actual teeth been put on the books (though they are enforced with wildly varying degrees of enthusiasm), and only in the past couple of decades has the concept of single motherhood elicited something other than disdain and rage from the general population.
/r/MensRights10/06/13 09:54 PM

Why? The law and society agree with me.

making unilateral decisions about someone else's labor doesn't violate their bodily integrity? No. It doesn't. A wallet is not a uterus, and no amount of semantic contortions or tortured logic can make it so.
/r/MensRights10/06/13 09:30 PM

I'm not wiggling out of anything. If you're talking about forced breeding, then that's a crime. It would violate a woman's bodily integrity. How is this remotely related to mandated child support for fathers? You appear to be conflating monetary support with childbearing.
/r/MensRights10/06/13 09:22 PM
2

If a woman was expected to take on the burden of an unwanted child, could that be compared to slavery? No. It's called "taking on the responsibility of an unplanned child", not "slavery". edit: are you conflating monetary child support with childbearing/mothering?
/r/MensRights10/06/13 09:11 PM
9

Yes. I can rationally refute the ridiculous idea that an unwanted child and mandated child support for said child can be compared to slavery. As a matter of fact, just typing that bit of insanity is a refutation. edit: Not to mention the equally ludicrous concept that pregnant women - any women, in fact - are a "master class".
/r/MensRights10/06/13 09:05 PM

Are you honestly comparing a woman carrying an unwanted baby to term with a slave owner? And a man poisoning the mother of his child with a slave revolt? Are you really doing that? Because if you are, it doesn't do your movement any favors.

This is incredibly disingenuous. You were banned for referring to Patrick Stewart as a "white knight for the patriarchy" and making other antagonistic comments. The fact that you were victimized doesn't give you carte blanche to go into a thread about domestic violence against women and shit it up with "what about the menz"-ing.
/r/MensRights01/06/13 09:58 PM
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
