I can also see it as discrimination designed to show people who are perceived as 'privileged' to understand what discrimination feels like. 4	Q: If there is/was a "patriarchy" then why were women ever given the right to vote? From what I've read, women's right to vote was originally given in western states as a way of attracting larger numbers of women to them. In addition, it was seen as a way of increasing the voting population in order to gain more reps in the house. Can't comment on it nationally very well, but I know that suffragette groups had an influence on the prohibition movement even before the right to vote, so maybe the flexing of this political power convinced officials to allow for women voters? From what I've learned (albeit this is obviously biased by the people who taught me), science is not "objective" because too often it requires human interpretation of data in order to make any sensible conclusions out of it. If you need more, you need to go find these articles for your self. Also the entire idea of a quote necessarily takes that specific phrase out of its context as a way to try to create an accurate portrayal of the article as a whole.
