My routine is based almost entirely around deadlifts and pullups (plus some other stuff thrown in) and has worked out great :)

Roosh is acting like a girl. Attention-whoring. RoK used to be a site about self-improvement, with some occassional social commentary. I even wrote some articles for them. Now it's just unreadable click-bait BS and a bunch of guys whining. That's not what a real man does. The entire neo-masculinity thing is a joke...

Much the same conclusions came out in studies of primates. This is evolutionary psychology 101 and it is deeply ingrained in the psyche since our distant ancestors millions of years ago.

And no, I don't make any money out of all this, it's just that I enjoy spreading my ideas and getting a discussion going on them, since unfortunately I can't always do it with the people I am surrounded with in real life. If you want something more prescriptive then you can read this.

Being contrarian doesn't mean you don't look at others. You are just not swayed by popularity of things and instead look at utility.

Congrats on your blog! I enjoy reading your thoughts on Machiavellism. While personally I don't have the internal make-up to ever become Dark Triad, I do realize the need to be a bit more selfish and put myself first, which I dont usually do and so reading your stuff has been quite interesting for me. I also have a blog of my own and it has helped me focus my thoughts and learn a lot of new stuff in the process. As for monetization, a lot of guys start their blogs because they want to get money.…

It depends on the personality of the person. Some people can tell themselves something and that's all they need, while others need an actual physical confirmation and develop a mentality after getting results. That's why advice needs to be nuanced to different types of people and situations. :)

I actually do have that type of thinking, since seriously in reality the vast majority of guys are no competition. However this always gets checked by reality. Most girls seem to have ADD. Even if you have had the most amazing interaction at one point, the girls seem to forget about you during the week, as they are constantly bombarded with new and new guys... The problem with abundance mentality is that you cannot think yourself to it. You need to have some real world results to back it up. Som…

The problem with having an abundance mentality is that you have to live in a place where that is possible. If you work in IT and live in a city where if you go out, the clubs are 70-80% guys, then it is the girls who will have an abundance mentality and won't give much of a fuck how you act, since after you meet them, they will have been approached by a million other guys. However it's true, having an abundance mentality is very important, but for most guys it will be hard to develop with the cu…

That's why I like to study evolutionary psychology. It explains a lot of the social dynamics happening around you. It is "cool" to try to deny human nature, but in reality the way we behave still obeys the same rules that applied hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Yeah, it's a PUA site, but the reason why I say it's Red Pill is because the dude has a lot of red pill views if you read some of his articles or comments below articles. For example in articles like this. This type of behavior was prevalent long before any type of Americanization. Czech and Slovak girls have been going to the coast of Yugoslavia since the 1920s (including during the period of Communism) and among the local guys, they have been known as the easiest lays...even the married chicks would get slayed by the local "beach engineers"... Czech newspapers are full of stories like this or blog posts like this about Czech girls and women (including married) travelling to places like Croatia, …

I actually wanted to write this as well. Guys go out into the clubs and see the local guys there and think all local guys are like that. What they are in fact seeing are the small percentage of guys that actually go out. The vast majority of guys are beta and don't go out. In fact, my Russian cousin is the most beta guy ever. Most CE and EE girls are not submissive in a relationship at all, quite the opposite.

I encourage everyone to start reading stuff on evolutionary psychology. This stuff can really make you think and reveal how things really work in the real world. I have been doing a lot of reading on how chimpanzees behave in nature. This can be quite illuminating for human nature, since they are our closest cousins. It can show you the real behaviors that work, since their state is raw and stripped of all those layers of culture that we have in human society. All that culture has hidden our rea…

Actually countries like Russia are not far behind. To quote: "Obesity has become a problem for over 25 percent of Russia’s population, head of the Nutrition Institute at the Russian Academy of Sciences said on Tuesday. After an annual examination of 1,500 people across the country, dieticians found that 55 percent of Russians had problems with excessive weight, Viktor Tutelyan told journalists. LOL...the words "Czech chick" and "traditional" don't go together... The Czech Republic has the highest divorce rate in Europe and the chicks are incredibly promiscious, more so than girls from "Western" Europe. Ignore her. Chicks crave attention. If they don't get it, they will go head over heels to get you. That's the reason why if you are single, no girl wants to have anything with you, but once she sees you with another girl, the same girl will do anything to get you.

I guess there are different types of "nice" guys. Some are using that as a manipulative behavior, but some people are genuine and nice for real. For me, I've always tried to be a genuine nice guy helping people fo the sake of helping, doing things like volunteering, helping people out when they need it...etc. I was doing it not because I wanted something from them, but because I really wanted to help and was following the maxim "do onto others as you want done onto yourself." A lot of things depend on the nature of a profession or skillset you want to master and how deeply you want to master it. I love learning foreign languages, but I hate grammar. I can have pretty good conversations in several languages, but in some of them my grammar sucks big time. For me, learning grammar is boring and I avoid doing it. However, if I want to progress, I need to buckle down and do the work and actually do the boring grammar exercises.
/r/TheRedPill03/10/15 09:06 AM

Learning can be fun. However if you have the mindset of learning=fun, then you will naturally focus on doing the activities that are fun for you and actively avoid the activities which aren't fun. However these non-fun activities are the ones that are needed in order to become a master. The best way is of course to try to make these activities fun as wll, but in most cases that's not realistic. Deliberate practice (sometimes referred to as the 10 000 hour rule) requires a lot of hard work.

Yup, that's how the Ancient Romans did it. They would pick a bunch of guys they wanted to be like (in later times Cicero was quite popular as the guy that people would try to be like) and then they would try to emulate him. They would practice his things, what he said, how he said, the delivery...etc. They would internalize this and then slowly after a while they would come up with their own style. People always want the silver bullet, but don't realize that most things are a result of hard work…

Yes, that's what I said, however the point here is to explain how humor works through explanations of it by the Ancient Romans. If you want to be a master at something you have to go through painful exercises.

Some weren't, but some were. Cicero was one of the funny ones and his work on oratory contains many passages on how to be funny. Yes, they were trained to dominate in politics, but that translates to social situations as well.

An example of humor + attitude: “It is an excellent joke, too, when you take any part of another person’s words in a different sense from that which he intended; as Fabius Maximus did with Livius Salinator, when, on Tarentum being lost, Livius had still preserved the citadel, and had made many successful sallies from it, and Fabius, some years afterwards, having retaken the town, Livius begged him to remember that it was owing to him that Tarentum was retaken. What type of stuff were you expecting and interested in? I am sure there are examples in the text. Me personally when I was reading Quintillian's and Cicero's stuff, I was blown away by their text. It was so powerful and I saw many parallels in classic books on humor such as Helitzer's. As for the history, I think you need that context in order to better grasp the attitude.

Well the blog post is not meant to be an easy read, but it's basically an entire book rolled into a post. I went through lots of primary material (translations of it) and picked out all the relevant passages relating to humor, going all the way from theory to practical examples. If you want to know what you are doing, you need to go through theory first and complement it with practice. Also I am not only trying to give practical advice on humor, but also give a history lesson. You can learn a lo…

History isn't straightforward and most laws of power by Greene are a bit contradictory. In other cases, guys trying to crush their enemies completely, got themselves killed, while other guys who showed clemency to their enemies got new powerful allies who helped them out. In my opinion, the same attitude that got Caesar out of the situation with the pirates, also got him killed. One key lesson here is that you need to apply balance and social awareness, and know when to act like a stud and when …

Great point! Although I sometimes find that people often behave irrationally and even if they are benefitting from the alpha's leadership, they will overthrow him anyways. To prevent that, an alpha who wants to keep his position needs to have street smarts and allies.

Huge differences between post-communist countries. Places like the Czech Rep. or Slovakia have pretty decent welfare states. Divorce rates are also high rates. However with girls, it's often an individual thing, so things like your looks, your status, your social circle, your game...etc. will come into play. Very good post. A lot of people think that being alpha is about "not giving a fuck". Sure that type of attitude can give you temporary success at times, but that's not what being an alpha is about. An alpha is a leader...full stop. Some people achieve leadership by being bigger and intimidating others, while others might do it by trickery. Those are ways to become an alpha, meaning a leader. However those strategies, usually aren't sustainable in the long-term. The way to be a long-term alpha is…

Well the thing about Czech and Slovak girls is that they like foreign guys and hate their own guys. The same thing is going on for example with Swedish chicks. I was once told by a Swedish girl that she thinks Swedish guys are ugly and that she prefers foreign men. If you go to a place like that and you are a foreigner, then the normal rules that apply to local men don't apply to you. The same chick will behave like shit to one guy, but then change completely for another guy.

:) no problem, your contribution is very welcome... I posted this in order to generate discussion on how a lot of times people believe in things without actually going back to the source and checking the facts. It just amazed me how many products there are out there using these numbers without anyone actually checking the basic premise that they are based on. Although I have to say that I too sometimes run 30 day challenges for myself :)

Yes, as an example of a well-known thing that uses the 30 days. I would imagine, he was reading one of these self-help books and that's where he got that number from. That's how these numbers propagate and no one actually checks the facts. It doesn't mean that doing 30 days of a habit is bad, quite the contrary. It just means that the habit most likely won't stick after 30 days and you will still need to continue on applying for a lot more days.

Yes, there were several goggles tests. There was another one by Austrian researchers, however I couldn't a NASA one. A lot of these books mention a NASA study. That one I couldn't find. It's not even about the money. A lot of chicks in what some people call "eastern" Europe, such as the Czech Republic make more money than a lot of guys out west. It's about the status of being a foreigner... chicks from Central and Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, and prefer foreign guys for some reason. So if you are foreign in those countries, you automatically have status, even if you are a piss poor FOB from some village in Africa.

My argument is that gender roles are to a certain role biological. After all, in nature men and women have different roles, for example it is the woman who has to carry the baby in her stomach and give birth...etc. So this means that men and women are wired differently and that is the basis for gender. Gender to a large extent is biological in nature and tests as the one on monkeys prove it. Otherwise how would the fact that male monkeys went for guy toys and female monkeys went for girl toys be…

Yes, but these are all things that have been observed in nature and things guys often need to work on. Lists help people pick out the traits they are missing and then work on them. It's always good to know the theory and then link it to practice. It has helped me structure my own self-improvement. Yes, human society is much more complex than chimp society, that's for sure. However there are some basic deep down things that work for both in the same (or very similar ways). Chimps actually have rudimentary cultures as well and each chimp community has their own way of doing things. Even in our complex human societies, emotion is still the driving factor behind most decisions and interactions. I mean how many times have seen chicks (but also guys) make totally irrational decisions based on s…

However I also forgot to add that there are different types of alphas (meaning leaders). Some are more altruistic, some are more selfish. What we are talking about here is an ideal state version of the alpha. However for each person who wants to apply the lessons above on themselves, they will have to adopt them in a different way based on their current predispositions, their bodies, their morals...etc.

I agree with your post. I did not expand on this above, but one of the sentences I write is this: For the definition of an alpha, I use the one stating that he is a leader of his community. So he is a leader of both men and women. He has two basic goals: to advance his position against others within his community, to help protect his community from others. I am against the alpha as a guy who doesn't give a fuck. Sure, he has to be disconnected and have a me first attitude in some cases, but he a…

I put intelligence under resourcefulness and creativity, since you can be intelligent, but you need to be able to use that intelligence for a specific purpose. There is a good example from the chimp world here. The initial alpha of the group that Jane Goodall was observing was Goliath. She named him this way, because this guy was huge in size and strength, bigger than anyone else in his group. In the group, there was also this chimp called Mike. He seemed like a typical loser, an outcast from th…

Well girls have a certain disconnect between what they want and how they actually act. When you ask a girl what she wants in a man, she will usually reply that he has to be charming, smart, funny, considerate... basically nice guy qualities... However what she usually goes for are the asshole qualities. Of course not all girls are like that, just the majority. Women usually have this fantasy world in their world, where they believe that they will be princesses and will find some sort of a prince…

Hollywood is not a good representation of the real world. Romantic comedies and all that are also way off from what actually happens in the real world. There are of course exceptions to the rule, but in the world the loveable loser almost never gets the girl.

It would be nice to have a scientific study on this to do determine how the split between nature/nurture is. I tend to agree that a large part is due to genetics, but I think nurture also plays a role. How big, that is up to debate. Anyone have an opinion on this or maybe know of some scientific studies?

Being an alpha in nature has two dimensions: about yourself (where you have to advance your own interests within your community), and about others (where you have to advance the interests of your community). The word alpha has as its main meaning being the leader of a community, that means both men and women. Men respect you and look up to you and women want you.

I feel like that as well. I used to be so freaking naive. I am still a good guy at heart... I have always been about helping people out (not just chicks), because I have always felt that is what any decent person should do. I was never expecting anything in return, but it turns out that other people and especially girls treat you like shit...

Looks matter a lot. Proof? Just came from a country where I am considered good looking (where I live I am probably just average). I didn't do anything, but kept getting approached by girls left and right without me even saying anything. This basically never happens where I live.

Yes, it's true that there are differences, but there are also differences between the different chimp groups as well. For example the chimps in Tai Forest hunt collectively, while hunting at Gombe is done on a more individualistic basis. Different communities use different tools and strategies. And yes, you always have to be careful when drawing inferences, but that is the case with any scientific pursuit. It is even hard drawing inferences from observing human interactions and many researchers …

Also forgot to add that there are scientific studies that look at what types of toys male and female monkeys choose. So there are basic innate differences between men and women and a division of gender roles, that go pretty deep down in our genetic memories. To quote the researcher who did the study: ““We were quite surprised by how closely the preferences of male and female monkeys for human gender-stereotyped toys paralleled those reported in children,” said Kim Wallen, PhD, study co-author. “…

I felt the same way when I started reading books on chimpanzee behavior. I realized how many parallels there are between us and them and how we can learn so much about ourselves, if you go back to the basics and see how chimp societies function. Of course there are many differences as well, but the core is the same.

Yes, that is very true. Group dynamics is often overlooked in discussions here. While the I don't give a fuck attitude works up to a point, you cannot take it overboard, which some people end up doing. In the real world, being too I don't give a fuck will piss off a lot of people. That might be fine for some individuals, however that will also mean that they can't advance past a certain point. You can stay the individual badboy who a lot of women fall for, but you will still most likely end up l…

Well, there are primitive semblances of all those things among chimps. For example, some use primitive tools such as hammers and anvils or use logs in order to play with them like dolls. In captivity, this type of activity is even more sophisticated. Of course higher cognition and language are the big dividers between humans and chimps, however much of human behavior is still driven by the same primitive instincts and emotions as it is with chimps. Critical thinking is rare among many humans, an…

Also look at power structures in wild and captive chimp populations. In captive populations, the whole social dynamics has changed with females getting more power. In wild populations, males are clearly dominant and females play only a miniscule role in male dominance hierarchies. In captivity, they sometimes play a very large role in determining who becomes the alpha male. In captivity, while still dominant, males have lost value to the females as protectors and providers of food, because all t…

Evolutionary psychology can give us a glimpse into the underlying factors behind behavior, and since chimps are very similar to humans, human behavior. People spend hours on this reddit discussing why men/women behave the way they do and this can point us to an explanation. Strength, attitude, Machiavellian intelligence...etc. it's all there...

Of course there are differences and humans have a less selfish and more cooperative drive than chimps, but many things in human society work in a very similar way as in chimp society. What is even more interesting is that the individual chimps are distinct personalities and each uses different strategies to accomplish his goals. Looking at chimps strips away all the baggage of human culture and lets us peak at the raw natural roots of our behaviors.

There are two very important internal belief systems that people often have. One is called impostor syndrome, where skilled and knowledgeable people trip themselves up and feel inferior, as impostors. For example they might feel that they don't know all the things they should know and that others are better than them, when in reality that's not true. The other mental state is called the Dunning-Kruger Effect, which is the opposite of the impostor syndrome. People with this effect are incompetent…

Envy is one of the biggest threats to a person. People will often bad-mouth others or try to trip them up, just because they are envious of them. Instead of using the success of another person to motivate themselves, they try to bring that person down below their level by using trickery. Watch out for this!

I bought one of those posture balls and try to sit on it at work as often as I can, instead of on a chair. There is also what they call the alpha chimp posture, which is basically a move you can make that increases your testosterone. Good posture not only means you looking and feeling better, but it can also give you more testosterone.

Sometimes people find passion only after a long time. For example, I have been interested in different things, and at first I wasn't very interested in the thing, but then once I got to know more about it, then the "passion" kind of grew on me.

For me, it also seems really hard to imagine doing the daily work grind for the rest of my life. :( For me, my passion is self-improvement, trying to find how far I can go. I try to set goals on what I want to achieve in different areas: body, mind, spirit...etc. For example I try to go to the gym 3 times a week and have a goal of what I want my body to look like. It's hard to combine with a work life, but I've grown to like it. I also want to improve my mind, so I am trying to learn as many for…

Worst wedding story has to be Emperor Claudius and one of his wives. It turns out that his wife snuck out of the palace at nights and worked in a brothel. Once she held a competition with a prostitute on who can satisfy more men. She won. She even ended up secretly marrying one of her lovers, while she was still married to the Emperor!

It all depends on the town and time of day. Montreal and Toronto have very hot women. In fact, I would say that Montreal in the summer has some of the hottest women I have ever seen and the frequency is high too. Even the much maligned DC has pretty hot women. Go to Tysons Corner malls and you will see plenty of hot women. (I grew up in DC) I was in Krakow and I saw this really hot chick sitting at a table in a karaoke bar with her friend (who was also hot, but not as hot as this one). I though …

I don't know why guys think women in ex-communist countries are more "traditional" or loyal or whatever. They are even bigger sluts than girls in the US or other EU countries. Guys from the "West" come in and end up getting all kinds of favorable attention from the local girls and then end up hyping them up as if they were somehow "better" than girls back home, but in fact that's not true. They are only getting play, because in many of those countries being from abroad gives you alpha status. Lo…

Facebook is good for keeping up to date with people. It's much easier to set up dates and stuff through fb as well. It's especially useful, if you have moved around in certain periods of your life to different places and don't live in the same town as all your friends. It is also a good way to find out about events. Twitter can be decent when you want to find out about news and things.
