They may actually believe they do these for themselves and whatnot. However subconsciously I can't help but believe they do this to attract a mate. All of these things are looked for in a mate and signal fertility and health. However part of looking good is to be more confident in yourself as well. I understand, unfortunately we both know there is no comment someone can leave here that will make you feel better. Maybe get a close friend or family member to listen and understand what you're going through. Awareness and acceptance of nerd and geek culture has increased. It is still a niche however. Some niches are bigger than others. Also nerd and geek culture can get very deep and very esoteric depending on how far down the rabbit hole you go.

I'm always skeptical of women who enter male dominated spaces such as comics and anime because they mostly use it as a means to get attention. This is really just a symptom of our societies over sexualization problem.

I'm trying not to have a meta argument about the make up of who goes to what con. The kind of people that pay money (comic con gets pricey) to attend and travel across states and countries. Who also often dress up as fictional characters. Are people who are far from normal.

The only thing you should be doing over text is arranging a time where you can show your "game" be it a date or phone call. The purpose of the phone call of course is arrange a date however you have more freedom to display your charming personality (hopefully). Don't give a standup routine through text. Don't talk about hobbies through text. Don't discuss favorite anime through text (wouldn't believe how many idiots think this a good idea). Do all that during the date or phone call.
