| 1 | How false accusations destroy livesI firmly believe that if someone falsely accuses someone of a crime (whatever kind it may be) and it is PROVEN that they lied about it, that the person should do just as much time as the person they falsely accused. If someone goes to prison on false testimony that is a failure of the state. We shouldn't be in the business of tit-for-tat criminal sentencing. The consequences of the perjury and false report should be considered when sentencing, but the sentence should still fall within the sentencing guidelines for those particular crimes. False accusation or not - the prosecutor should have prosecuted, a jury shouldn't have found him guilty, and a judge shouldn't have sentenced. Filing false police reports and perjury are already crimes with their own penalties.
