I agree completely, but (ironically) I was trying to say you need to recognize if the person is complaining (looking for compassion and solidarity) or asking a question (looking to brainstorm solutions). Clearly I failed to do this in my response to the original post As as a person who had their genitals mutilated as an infant for hygienic and social reasons, I have been in the OP's shoes many times, and have personally found that this MGM needs to be its own conversation rather than brought up …

Never bring up MGM when somebody is ranting about FGM. They want to be heard; to feel like they are a good advocate against FGM. I'd you are not able to validate their conserns, before you say say MGM is also a problem, it will come off as dismissive, or as you are arguing "We need to fix MGM, before we do anything about FGM." Obviously, it's not a zero sum game. No person should have their genitalia permanently altered with out their consent for cosmetically or prophylactic reasons.

I'm not saying you're wrong but you're definitely sleeping with the wrong women. If she thinks she can just lie there like a dead fish, I'll leave, and find some one who actually wants to have sex. Stay away from religious cults that preach abstinence before marriage. Too much toxic baggage around sexuality, and their a sanctuary for asexuals will only fuck you reluctantly. You'd have more fun with your hand and a bottle of baby oil.

Sexwork is work. If she want to sell herself for room and board, I'm not gonna shame her (but I'm not buying either). This is not a gender thing, there are plenty of guys out there who are just like her. looking for a mommy to pay all there bills or raise their children. This problem is when she's trying to convince people that that what she wants is ideal for everyone, and not just her kink. She's super creepy, and should not be allowed around children.

I don't think this is what feminism is becoming but rather what it's growing out of... many of these "victimhood feminists" are either the Old guard (often 2nd wave Feminist) radicalized by personal trauma or they are the new recruits who just regurgitate the talking points they've heard irregardless to logic. Scholars categorize the more modern Feminists as "3rd Wave" (sometimes 4th wave) or "intersectional feminists"... While some of these "feminist" won't identify as Feminist. They might call…

Oppression and discrimination can occur where ever one person has more power that someone else. While there are plenty of situations where men have more power than women, the presence of this unequal dynamic allows for sexism but does not innately create it. Anyone who touts that men cannot be a victim of sexism is either using a fringe definition for sexism or is just being dishonest to try and make their point.

I've bought women underwear for my partner and was too excited to worry about what others thought of my presence. Though if I had to picking up underwear for a young daughter (alone), I'd be terrified someone would think I was a pedophile, and that I might be violently beaten before leaving the store.

As much as I hate the "no true Scotsman" fallacy, (assuming she's not just trolling) then this women is not a feminist. She's not even a radical feminist, she's a eugenicist. This is everything I hate about fascism flipped to gender instead of race. It as if she read Huxley's Brave New world and didn't realize it was a parody.

Learn what the stereotypes are about each gender and how to avoid falling into that trap of expecting people to act that way. -Don't misgender a person or question their sexuality because of their interests, or their appearance. -Don't presume how violent or nurturing someone is based on their biology or gender. -Learn how to ask for what you want from your partner and how to gain their consent.

While it's possible that internalized-misandry plays a role in the decision of some transwoman to transition; let's not replicate the patronizing argument used by some TERFs who claim that Trans-men are actually women with internalized misogyny. Sexism is a societal problem! As individuals we all deserve the autonomy to choose the best solution for our health and well-being. IF sexism is a contributor to the decision for gender transition, let's make sure we are focus on fixing the problem of se…

As a Scottish American who perferes to wear his kilt to formally occasions, I've learned to prepare myself for all kind of harassment, and stairs. I've definitely used this stereotype to my advantage when trying to pickup women. Though I've also received alot of unwanted advances. The worst of which including: -A woman twice my age who asked me to sit on her lap so she could perform an underwear check with her hands. -A wedding photographer (male) who covertly snap a picture of under my kilt whi…

In Americans (not going to speak for other parts of the world) a man in a kilt is subversive, and fetishized... as if it is both masculine and crossdressing at the same time. Many women react to this as if they're on a power trip, where feel they get to show a man what it feels like to recieve harassing cat-calls. After all "he's clearly asking for it, dressed like that".

This would also trap men at home with female abusers. Who would have to decide between not defending themselves from their abusers and getting arrested for breaking curfew after being turned away from a domestic violence shelter. (A curfew on men, is such a ridiculously bad idea that it's hard for me to believe the suggestion is anything more than just political posturing.)

Does anyone have any recommendations for literature that nails what it's like to be a man? (Bonus points if it is Sci Fi) It's not sci-fi but for those of us who were the children of baby boomers, "All Quiet on the Western Front" by EMR is an excellent critique of male socialization. It was written by a german veteran of WW1 and banned by the Nazis for sending the wrong message about war.

That basically the message of the first 7mins of the video. They they spend the last 6mins suggesting the alternative theory that it could be the way men are socialized, I.e. hegomonic masculinity. Many people in the comments seem to think the first half of the video is hyperbole, but I don't hear it that way.

I've never press charged against the people who have assaulted me either. Part of me has forgiven them, and part of me really doesn't want the stigma of being victim of sexual violence. While I'd love to forget it ever happened, I sometimes worry if my silence is giving them permission to repeat it with other people.

I hope the UK is not taking this suggestion seriously. It is feminist dog whistle, referencing the 1977 "Reclaim the Night" protests in which 2nd wave Feminist rebeled against police advice for women to stay in their homes after dark, in lieu of multiple women being murdered but the "Yorkshire Ripper". At the time women carried signs such as "No Curfew on Women - Curfew on Men."

I am becoming convinced the problem is in the way we collect data about abuse. While psychologist now discuss multiple categories of abuse, criminal justice systems are biased towards evidence left by physical and sexual asults. When a conflict arises between people they will instinctivly rely on their advantage to control or escape the situation (fight of flight). As men are often physically stronger then women they are more likely to leave the physical evidence that criminal justice systems ar…

After watching the video, I wonder if the intent is for a non-gendered welfare changes but they decided to market it as a "women's issue" to gain support from people who either believe women are victims of social inequality, that infantilize them.

He needs to get out of that relationship, ASAP. Even if he feels partially responsible. The best thing he can do is stay away from his abuser before she provokes a response that could put him in jail. He should act repentant, and start seeing a therapist. He can tell them it's to deal with his anger issues, but should legitimately find someone to help him recover from the abuse he's been tolerating. If he's worried about what he'll lose in a divorce the price tag only goes up the longer you stay…

The author quotes some interesting statistics... "The census reports that “the average adult woman in the US is more likely to be a college graduate than the average adult man.” Moreover, today’s young, childless female city-dwellers with college degrees are out-earning their male counterparts by 8 cents on the dollar. " If it weren't for her misandrists interpretation of these statistics, she'd make a good men's rights activist.

Blatant sexual discrimination. I think many people know they cannot no longer publicly discriminate based on racial, ethnic or religious lines, but it still open season men. It seem in London, rape is a subcategory of sexual assault that requires a penis. However in the US (as of 2012) the FBI defines rape is a subcategory of sexual assault that is defined by non-consensual penetration, not the assailants genitalia. https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/blog/updated-definition-rape#:~:text=The%20new%20definition%20is%3A,the%20consent%20of%20the%20victim.%E2%80%9D The UK needs to catch-up!

While the power dynamic of teacher/student make is easier for the teacher to coerce or manipulate the student into participating. If he was of legal age to consent, he has to decide to press charges. If he did not, the school can decide for themselves how to discipline this immoral action (and they are unlikely to tell the students what happened). Victims of sexual assault often do not press charges, partly because of the stigma that victims of sexual assault are irrefutably damaged or likely to…

I love porn! (not all porn) and I suspect that the modern prevalence of pornography in America is a net benefit to our society. Human trafficking is a problem, as is the abuse of sex workers, and the distribution of private images with the consent of the people in them. However these problems are neither exclusive nor essential to the pron industry. The stigma againt sex work doesn't stop it from happening, but does stop people from asking for help. Similarly the taboo about discussing sex only …

I just watched the documentary, which the "porn is rape" sign comes from "Lefties: Angry Wimmin". It an old BBC documentary about "radical british feminist" in the 1980s. I.e. it was a fringe viewpoint from at least 30 years ago. If you weren't around then, you might take for granted how accessible information is today. Not all feminist believe in equality, that is one of the more modern iterations of feminist theory. The feminist movement grew out of the struggle against a system were women had far fewer rights than men. Some feminists who have been through some horrible shit and refuses to believe that there are spaces where women abuse men, or consider it such a rarity that it's not worth worrying about. While I'd say this exert is generally positive, Jordan Peterson is hit and miss for me. While I do not question his intelligence or his sincerity I tend to disagree with the root of his solutions. It's upsetting to hear, about your experience at a Planned Parenthood. I've never been inside of one. Though I've had a few female sexual partners who felt it was the only safe place to get legitimate advice on family planning or gynecological exams without health insurance. While I know there are Planned Parenthood centers that explicitly will not treat men, I am grateful for the care my partner was able to receive. I definitely benefited from the knowledge she passed on to me.

Aside from the writers misandrists language, I generally agree with them. If you remove the gendered language form this article it is good advice... AA has and does helped people, but it was developed by a christian zealots who views addiction and it's treatment through the filter of their faith. People fighting addiction should know that AA is not the only way to get better.

Sorry I haven't read the article, but as someone with experienced with AA's model of recovery. People don't realize that AA (and it groups for other addictions) are pseudo-religious organization. Their strategy for breaking dependence on an addiction, is through steps based on christian morality and religious devotion. It reputation for helping people overcoming addiction and it's prevalence, is based on the charity of local volunteer members, not its success in helping people.

This author is just another ignorant pawn of the Patriarchy. Their attempt to claim the moral high ground is only salient in a gender binary world where victims are exclusively women, and perpetrators exclusively men. Thus is just the Patriarchy's fabricated gender war, in which the author argues women have lost.

Disturbing! This makes me think of 1933 novel 'The werewolf of Paris'. There's an embedded narrative in the book we're in man is imprisoned in dark pit, and conditioned, through starvation, to howls for his food. The man survives decades in the state, and his abuser convinces friends and visitors that he has an actual wolf in the pit, whose howls are occasionally heard.

I am glad this person remembers the sacrifice that save their life, but any time you put "real man" in a phrase, it's probably "Toxic Masculinity". Toxic masculinity is not choosing to do or enjoying things common to men, but the perception that man's gender identity, and the privilege that come with it, can be taken from as punishment for not doing them. There are no qualifier for any gender identity. It's not a card or a license that can be taken away from you.
