Your point got me thinking. What if we think about value of "hobby" for women in terms "Does this provide something for me". It can be entertainment and so on. I must admit that I was bit biased because I was only thinking hobbies like sailing, hiking/camping etc. Essentially something that you can bring girl along with. Your blunt point certainly hits hard because we have been raised in a culture where people are told about stories how someone makes epic "journey" to become better and successful.
