Not correct. The damage has to be the similar in force like the one used by the attacker. You cannot easily justify using a gun to defend yourself when the other guy has a knife. There’s other doctrines that come into play (like the Castle doctrine). But it can be a crime when one uses excessive force to repel an attack.
