The issue with large age gap relationships is that, if they are successful, think about old age. At 25 and 40 things may seem to be not an issue but what about when the man is 65, ready to retire, and the woman is 50 and not ready to retire? When she is 65 the man will be 80. Now, I do know a few guys in their 80’s who are still healthy and active, but not a ton. Issues of aging become a much bigger deal in relationships with large age gaps, and that is something people should be clear eyed abou…

Have you acted like this? Have you gone from enthusiastically trying to please a former partner to not even putting any effort on the newer one? That was the question. Now, someone with a very low self-esteem may go with a partner who is incompatible with them but would be considered a 'catch' (they are attractive, popular, successful, etc) and, because they don't have a strong sense of self, change to try to keep a relationship they think gives them worth. If they fix the issue of having no sel…

No. Since I never dated someone I felt didn’t like me as a person, I never fundamentally changed who I was. People who do that have crushingly low self esteems and that is sad.

You have any proof for this, or is it just based on observation?

No, the reports are that he did have a pellet gun in the room, which was true, and he was showing it to some people in his room. Some people saw and got worried, which is understandable, and alerted the hotel staff, who called the police. The police were the ones who reacted totally inappropriately. The man was unarmed when he came out of the room, was complying as best he could to their incredibly ridiculous demands and still got shot. This case is about excessive police violence, not about peo…

But people didn't call the cops because they thought he was creepy. They called the police because of what looked like a gun being pointed out of window.

It's the police who were discriminating against the man, not the person who called the police because they saw what seemed to be a gun looking to be pointed out of a hotel room window. As for your point not being about the woman, I have bolded all your sentences where you put the blame on women. This guy was an exterminator at a hotel killing bugs. But some sheltered, privileged woman decided he looked "suspicious" and called the cops on him. Next thing you know the cops have him pinned on the g…

Uh, dude. No where in the article does it reveal the gender of the person who called the police. You may want to find someone to talk to about your issues with women.

I sympathize. Am a woman but from about 24 to 33 checked out the relationship scene entirely as well, as in no dates, no hookups, nada. There is nothing wrong with taking a year or near a decade or more to get right with yourself. Most important thing is that you are okay with who you are. No relationship will give you that, and if you would rather not deal with a relationship while you are getting okay with you, that is totally understandable and fine.

I would not be surprised by that at all, which is why I do think it’s important to encourage men to keep social connections.

You have any data that contradicts the statement that men are more likely to remarry?
/r/PurplePillDebate08/09/19 12:15 AM

Yes, but men are still more likely to remarry than women. The gap between men and women when it comes to remarrying is narrowing but it still does favor men. https://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2014/11/14/chapter-2-the-demographics-of-remarriage/ So even in the worst case - you marry and do get divorced - not all hope need be lost. People do recover and move on if they want to. A smaller percentage recover but decide not to remarry. So if anyone is staying in a miserable situation for fear they won’…

As others have said it wouldn’t work so great if you want to have kids. Even if you aren’t having children, it is hard to be with someone through the bad times if you aren’t physically there. My husband and I are married, live together and won’t have children. If we weren’t living together, while we might call each other up over the really big stuff, we wouldn’t be therefor each other for the day to day doldrums of life. What I will say is that I do think people have unrealistic expectations of …

Well, at least in my state, courts usually default to assets before the marriage return to the original owner, assets acquired during the marriage are split 50 - 50 and alimony is very rare. If granted, it is rehabilitative alimony and is only in place for two or three years. People asking for more rarely get it.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/09/19 12:13 AM

Not necessarily. When my husband divorced his first wife of 20+ years, they handled everything out of court. They split the proceeds from selling the house 50/50, figured out how to split the cars. She kept her work pension entirely for himself, he kept his retirement savings for himself. Zero alimony. Hell, for the final decision she didn’t even show to court since it wasn’t necessary in our state. Not to say it was a happy time for them but no one felt screwed and they are still on good terms,…

Same. My husband and I have our own accounts, savings, 401ks. We have one joint account we pay the mortgage on the house for, and right now I put in more for that because the health insurance is coming out of his pay check so we figure that is far. He covers some bills, I cover others. Granted, for him this was marriage two and my first marriage and we were 46 and 37 when we married, so combining all finances is a huge PITA and unnecessary. His kids from his first marriage are all over 18 and I …

I would say all people want to feel respected and appreciated by those close to them. I don’t think it is women’s nature to need specifically male validation anymore than I think a man naturally needs a woman to validate him.

I take it you aren't in a part of the US where people are still very, very religious and you do have girls who really do believe that their father's opinion and husband's opinion are guided by Jesus and they must listen and obey in all things.

Nope. And people seem to take huge issue with that aspect of feminism. So why would people wanting to help men with their concerns emulate something they think isn’t all that effective?
/r/PurplePillDebate04/09/19 11:28 AM

Eh, I think both are not good. They still concede that the other gender is somehow how more powerful, either because you are nothing without them or because they are ruining civilization. Don’t know if it will be all that helpful in helping someone get past looking outside for validation. Now instead of needing their approval for validation, it can lead to you needing their anger or fear for it and I don’t see that as helpful. That said, I’m not going to get on a guy I overhear at a bar have a ‘…

So would you then say that part of feminism that spent a lot of time going on about how awful men are was necessary for some women and men shouldn’t take issue with it, since women were also raised for a while, and in many cases still all, raised to depend on male validation?

I didn't say low n-count people don't enjoy sex. They very well may. However, they probably approach sex and relationships differently than a high n-count person. If a guy has a high number of partners, he probably isn't someone who needs a serious emotional attachment to have sex. Someone with a low partner count may well need a greater emotional attachment to have sex. Maybe this won't be a big deal in a relationship as it goes on. It also could lead to a situation where the person who needs m…

Exactly. Also, has anyone ever heard an old man who has been happily married for over fifty years, when asked what is great about his wife, say "She was a virgin on our wedding day?" Even if someone is active in a religion where that kind of thing matters, it takes a lot more than that to make a relationship work, and making an idol out of sexual purity has not been shown to work, even among the deeply religious. Also, I would say even if the partner count is due to something like abuse or traum…

Think of it this way. How likely is it you would have a happy relationship with a woman with a really low n count? Chances are very good that your values on certain things would be wildly different. Chances are she would be about committing to a monogamous relationship early on and you may not be. She might be very religious. She also may have some sense that enjoying sex is something ‘good girls’ don’t do which is a recipe for a pretty sad sex life. Sounds like you enjoy sex. Could you see your…

Agree: Strength training is good for you. Disagree: the whole SMV/RMV concept. If you are viewing human relationships as a market where you exchange objects (in this case yourself and another objectified person) and not a collaboration with between free subjects, you are probably a lousy lay/romantic partner.

Women are often told not to make advances at all if they want to be viewed as good women worthy of respect. They also often told they shouldn’t respond too eagerly to a man’s advances. Have a more egalitarian view of sexuality and there will be a more egalitarian attitudes toward what is and isn’t okay to do. Have different rules for men and women in regards to how sexual they can be and the standards for what is and isn’t okay will be different.

Making advances as in flirting is seen as predatory? Not in the places I have traveled or lived. Predatory behavior is seen as predatory. Flirting may not be appreciated or reciprocated but it isn’t seen as predatory unless someone is doing it seriously seriously wrong.

And how much of the issue of purity is rooted in particular forms of religions that don’t just disappear over night? Also there is a stronger emphasis on purity in more religious communities as opposed to less one.

In the US I would say it depends on the area you are in terms of how feminist it is. For a lot of Americans, the church is incredibly important and main outside of mainline Protestant denominations have very strict gender roles, women aren’t allowed to preach, etc.

I agree that no one should be treating anyone like that. We have lots of gendered double standards that are non sense and this is one

Purity standards aren’t consistent through time and it does seem they aren’t as a big a deal in some western cultures. As for the west being very feminist, what do you mean by the West?

One of the reasons society may not react the same way to these situations as they would if the genders were reversed is due to our standards of purity for women. A man doing something sexual with a woman, even when it is not harassment, is often viewed as degrading the woman (note the emphasis on a low number of partners for women but not for men in this sub). A woman doing something sexual with a man on the other hand is viewed as validating the man. You’ll get feminists saying this behavior is…

Looked at your comment history and saw your pictures. You are a perfectly nice looking man with nice eyes, a good mouth and good cheekbones. I am sorry you haven’t had great relationships. Just because you came across some women you aren’t compatible with that doesn’t say a thing about your worth a person. Sorry you have had a period of crappy luck finding someone.

Well, that was about most of human history so....men had a burden to be sole providers and care takers and would only be measured by what they could provide, women would be at greater risk for domestic violence and being stuck in abusive relationships, and relationships couldn’t be a place where you explored who you as an individual were but were forced to play out a social role of some platonic ideal of ‘man’ and ‘woman’. No thanks. I like getting to be with my husband as he explores the person…

I want a son who doesn't define his self-worth through sex or relationships, same as I would with a daughter. Whatever gender the child is, I would want them to grow up to be self-aware and have some curiosity about the world around them. Their romantic relationships and what they choose to do or not do with their bodies are not my business.

About the same as mine at the time, which was probably about a 6 or 7 if you believe in such things. We were both seniors in high school who had been dating for about six months. Were both virgins. Of course we thought each other was attractive but I wouldn't say either of us were gorgeous people. Not carrying an umbrella because you see it as an inconvenience and you aren't bothered by getting rained on? Right there with you, my dudes. Unless it's apocalyptic levels of rain or my getting soaked is going to end up being a pain for others (i.e. I'll be tracking water into a building where people may slip if I'm dripping water), I don't bother with one. Not carrying an umbrella because they are "for women" and you don't want to look feminine? I would say it's more fragile masculinity, where…

Ah, I think we may be talking about different things. I am looking through the Amazon best sellers on dating and relationships, which women typically buy more than men do. Things like ‘Act Like A Lady, Think like a Man’ and ‘He’s not that into you’. Interestingly, a lot of the most popular dating advice books women buy are written by men.

It is never, ever, ever a turn off. I can’t read my husband’s mind and I don’t expect him to read mine. That’s what talking is for and being direct saves a lot of time.

If you look for ‘dating books for women’ you’ll see most of the books are about what women need to do to ‘get the guy’ or tell if he is not interested. Are most of them crap? Probably, same as most of the pua guides for men out there. The books that do talk about what kind of man to find are usually coming from a very Christian perspective and aren’t emphasizing looks, wealth and social status

Married woman here. Never once has a GNO involved clubbing, nor has any girlfriend suggested it and we all like dancing even. We’re married and busy - GNO is a time to have time together to catch up and do things we enjoy. Going to a dance class? We’ve done that. Going to a loud club where we can’t hear each other? Nope. While I am sure some married women still go clubbing, a GNO is about keeping friendships intact and not about guys

The popular marriage advice genre isn’t about how to understand alpha males. The whole men are from Mars Women are from Venus series wasn’t about alpha males. Maybe romance novels have more ‘alpha’ men in them, sure. Romance novels are in no way meant to be relationship guides any more than porn is. Anyone who takes either as a guide is an idiot who will be quite romantically disappointed

Because the number in itself doesn’t tell the story. A man could be a virgin because he’s deeply religious, not terribly sexual, was just really busy and didn’t have the time or energy for dating or lots of other reasons. A man could have a really high number because he thought that was very important at one point but now has different priorities. Without knowing the story and more about the person, the number is pretty meaningless.

Or you could just be up front with her, let her know you noticed she wasn’t texting and so you backed off but are interested in her still and see if she is interested as well. If yes, awesome. If not, that sucks but at least you know to move on. There is something to be said for knowing what you want and being up front about it - takes some of the guess work out of a relationship. I would say that’s a bit unfair. There are plenty of self help books out there aimed at women on how to understand men, dating, relationships, marriage, etc and they tend to do quite well. Getting relationships to work isn’t easy for anyone, and I think the more we cut each other some slack and give people credit for where they are trying, the easier it will be.

It’s a fluke due to who self selects to post here I think. I also would say I don’t think that relationships between men and women are by nature antagonistic. For one individual to find another individual they will be long term compatible with isn’t easy, and so we’ll all come across more people we won’t be long term compatible with than we will be. Doesn’t mean that men and women inherently have competing sexual imperatives, just that finding people who are compatible as individuals isn’t so si…

In general, I would say women care about their partners being athletically skilled about as much men do, which is to stay not much at all. Sure, some women may prefer it just like some men may prefer athletically skilled women. But overall, I don't think it's a quality people view as all that important in a partner.

I think that may be in part because of the skill you are highlighting - sports, and particularly combat sports like mma. I have a feeling if you made it more general as in do you prefer men who are good at something (music, building, cooking, comedy, art, camping, etc) to men who don’t have much talent but are handsome, the answers would be very different.

The blue pill is a bit more honest in that instead of suggesting that you if you crack some elaborate code, you will have successful relationships, it acknowledges that relationships take work and there is no one fits all solution. It also says men don't have to try to change themselves into something some abstract woman wants. Instead, why not focus on finding someone (or several someones if that's their thing) who can have compatible relationships with them as they are, or be find ways of bein…

I would say what someone can do is more important than what they look like. Now, I happen to enjoy sports and physical activity, so to me a guy that is 3/10 in looks but a 7/10 in physical stuff is more appealing. If I was really into music, I imagine a guy who was 3/10 in looks, 3/10 in physical activity but 7/10 in musical ability would be more appealing. We all might notice the good looking people first, but once people move beyond prioritizing if other people think their partner is hot or no…

Are we talking the Blue Pill sub or the Blue Pill idea in general? The Blue Pill sub can (to this evil SWJ feminist even) get kind of pointlessly petty, but the reason you wouldn't find any guides on TBP about how men and women should behave is the Blue Pill generally rejects any hard and fast rules on how men and women should behave. I would say the Blue Pill rejects the idea that things like game theory and general population studies are all that useful in figuring out how to approach relation…
