I waver from tears of sadness and regret to pure anger at what I felt she did to me the last five years. I don't know anymore...

Yep, I'm about five and a half years post separation and still feel the hit. Although a tad less. She actually just passed away last month from cancer and I feel the loss creeping in once again. At this point i don't think it ever goes away, even though I've moved on and have a new lady and kid

Dude, she doesn't have income and you have kids? You need to be very careful here. You may end up paying alimony and support.

Thanks brother. I actually picked the boys up last week and they are safely with me. They are home! They are hurting and grieving their mother, but they're home.

I can tell you right now that if shes a stay at home mom and you have two kids, you're about to get murdered in alimony and child support. After about five years, I was still giving her almost 50% of my net income. Seriously, do what you can to make it work or get her working before you pull the trigger.

Thank you and thank you for the suggestions. I'm getting them and moving them to Virginia in the next couple of weeks. I have some good therapy lined up for them. Also will be framing some good photos of them with their mom for their new room to honor her. I actually made her some big promises during her last days, and I fully intend to care and love those boys in that way to honor her. For all her faults between us, she loved those boys.

They are all over the place right now. It's going to hit them hard for holidays and birthdays real bad, because she really loved and invested in those boys. I never really wanted the divorce and felt abandoned by her, and even worse the way she and her whole family treated me during and after the divorce made me sick. Luckily her and I really were able to have a good understanding on things. I gave up fighting when she got diagnosed with cancer, and doing that meant I had to back slightly away f…

Funny you mention that. I tried to get their stuff and found out they didn't have beds, dressers, computer desks, basically any necessary items children are supposed to have. I'm pretty shaken by that. My one son's bed was in such shape that they tossed it in the trash. I had asked her family to get some items and shift them over here - dishes, any furniture than is familiar, and nothing.

Yeah they were debating on getting getting my sons to do it. My ex's sister is a divorce attorney. They backed down so that's good. But from what I heard from an inside source they discussed it internally. Not sure why they hate me that bad. Hell my ex that passed didn't even hate me that much.

Yeah I feel conflicted for sure. I just got a $4000 a month pay raise which is incredible, but the weight of taking care of these teen boys is a lot. Her and I were finally in a decent spot the last year or so, mostly due to her cancer. It happened much sooner than any of us thought.

Sorry to hear this friend. Small world, I'll be heading to Ft Worth in the coming days. My ex wife is dying of cancer and my teenage sons are there now spending their last moments with her. No matter what happens, make sure you stay professional, and respectful around your kids. For the longest time I've been upset with how my ex wife treated me, but now with her sudden departure immenent, I'm realizing that my bitterness is gone, and how difficult life will be for my kids and myself having to p…

You're making a huge mistake right now. You need a break. You'll never qualify for another loan because they'll see that you already have a mortgage.

I barely got by. Moved in with my parents and they didn't charge rent. Did that for a couple of years and had almost zero bills. Allowed me to build up a decent savings and to get my salary higher.

Yeah at one point I was giving the ex over 74% of my net income. And that was after I stopped contributing to the 401k. Between taxes, health insurance, and mandatory pension pull out, it was a mess.

Yeah it's rough brother. Thank you. I thought for sure I hated her guts. But now, I just wish I could take on the cancer for my son's sake.

Thanks brother. My emotions are all over the place. I don't wish hard or ill on her at all. I'm quite sad actually. She did so much damage to me and took me years to recover and get out of severe depression and almost had to file bankruptcy. Now that she's dying, and I see how my teenage boys are struggling, I wish I could take that cancer on for their sake. The trauma my sons are feeling right now and the amounts of therapy they will need will be enormous. I appreciate the good thoughts brother…

My ex split with me so she can move the kids to the beach three hours away and have fun living off the child support and alimony. I was so angry and poor. Fast forward to four years later and she's diagnosed with breast cancer. They treated it and thought she was fine. One year later the cancer has spread to her brain and its terminal. Likely will be taking full possession of my sons in the next 4-10 months. It's ironic, but I do feel bad. Very mixed emotions on my part. My sons are watching the…

Why in the world would she keep the house? That's not how it works unless she really paid for the whole thing, and even then you'd still probably get half.

It does not get better. I'm in year five, and it stings every two weeks that I sent her almost $2,000. The only thing that doesn't sting is the fact that I'm only two years away from it ending, although I know she will make a battle out of it.

I was making around $125k, and was giving around $3900 a month. It killed me and I was giving her almost 68% of my net income after taxes. I paid all the taxes, Health insurance, and the child support / alimony portion was $3900. I actually still pay that for the next couple of years, but I'm making around $180k a year and it doesn't hurt as bad. If I can give you advice. Make it work. You will be decimated, especially if she was stay at home. Make things work, and start having her get a job slo…

You need to get that off your name and force the sale of the house or have her refinance.

My ex lived the dream for a couple of years. She took half the value of our 300k from our house, and then proceeded to move the kids 3 hours away to the beach. All was wonderful until she got breast cancer. As much as I wanted to laugh at her about it, I couldn't do it (although mentally I still think about it). The kinds of things she did to poison my sons against me makes me think it was some sort of divine karma. If your wife thinks she is going to love life, she may, but she probably won't a…

It's is a trauma thing. From 2020-2023 I have very little memory recollection due to the divorce. It got better the second half of 2023 and doing good now. Job performance is much higher now

I'm about to turn 40 next month. Got divorced about four years ago at 36. Met another woman about 2 years ago (38), and now we have a son thats about 14 months old. So yes you can be happy and find someone. I was really upset and bitter for quite sometime at the ex, but now I'm thankful she dumped me because now I've found true happiness.

You are absolutely fucked and can expect to lose half of your stuff and probably more. Could you not try to work on the marriage through intense therapy? Try to change up some habits. I find a lot of intimacy issues are also because they are in a slump. Read up on how to get a woman really feeling loved and attracted (not saying you aren't but maybe try to think outside the box). I can assure you the pain from losing all your shit and half of everything will be less than if you tried to work it …

Show her that she's wanted as much as you can. Make some intentional moves on her asap. It was a crummy move on her part to say that, but here's your opportunity to make the move and give her a reason to never seek out another person's attention..

1000% right here. I wish I had done things different. Going the route of divorce so quick caused so much pain to myself and my children.

The only thing that worked for me was putting up an emotional wall between myself and the kids. I love them dearly, but I had to do that for my own mental health.

I give my ex $47k per year in child support and alimony, and when it started out it was 74% of my net income. I barely had enough to survive. I had to move in with my parents while making $120k per year because I couldn't even afford a one bedroom apartment.
