That sucks, oh well, check it out when you get the chance. It will answer most of your questions.

Did you watch the lecture?

This type of behavior seems to be most domestic violence. I certainly don't want to dismiss the cases where some poor person is blindsided by violence which can happen but most of it escalated by both parties.

The studies do not involve police reports, they ask survey participants how often they initiated violence. Both means that both genders initiated contact on an equal basis within a relationship. The next question you will probably ask, is how do we know if they told the truth? They compared the results of both gender's self reports across thousands of such surveys and they matched up very accurately. We would know if they were lying if women said men started 75% and men said women started it 60%…

The lecture addressed these pairings, it is called "assortative mating." People that like to fight tend to find each other.

The patriarchal male scenario that you are referring to is not typical of domestic violence (DV), this surprised me. The profile of people that commit these acts of abuse tend to be similar to criminals. I suspect that if a person does not respect property rights then they probably will not care about damaging the bodies of others. The point of the lecture is that men and women instigate domestic violence at equal rates so the answer to premise of your various questions is that "alpha male quali…

OP should ask his doctor if the form violates his Hipaa rights.

Excellent point, they compared one genders report against the other to test for accuracy. One gender reported they started things x times, their partner x times, they compared the self reported numbers against each other and they matched up quite nicely so the self reported surveys were accurate. They also stopped looking at just criminal cases because the sampling wasn't accurate for general the population.

What I am saying is that most of the incidents that I have seen is where one partner was doing something that they knew would elicit an angry and possibly violent response based on the couples past behavior. It is not always like this but story is complicated and both people are usually being idiots. This is a politically incorrect viewpoint and is painted as blaming the victim but I would prefer both parties get help. I am not saying any of this is OK, or that taunting a partner into a fight is…

This means ongoing domestic violence in a relationship is initiated by both genders in 50% of the cases. The study data is based on self reported surveys for research. They know the reports are fairly accurate because they compared gender results against each other, i.e. the women reported they initiated an incident x times, the men x times and the two versions lined up accurately. This was not part of a criminal prosecution, just a research study so participants are shielded from legal implicat…

Previous to this, I thought men were doing most of the domestic violence by a long shot so basically I didn't know squat about it even though I thought that I did. What do we call impact? Physical injuries, mental damage, parental rights issues within a biased system? Those are some difficult metrics.

You maybe talking about about a stereotypical situation where a woman gets violently assaulted/hospitalized, these types of cases are largely committed by men but only make up a small percentage of the assaults. Even with this in mind, women still do 33% of the killing. If you haven't watched the video, take the time to do so, your perceptions about domestic violence will forever change.

Let's hope it gets the attention it deserves, we really need to change perceptions that men are abusers and women are powerless victims. Both genders need equal blame, hopefully courts and support programs will change the way they do things if enough people know the truth.

It really helps to hear from an expert summarizing the research and looking at situation in general.

It seems society is perpetrating perpetuating this myth that men mostly responsible for domestic violence but after watching things over my 45 years of living, it appeared that women were playing the violence game as well. I have seen women perpetrate the violence and taunt their partner to elicit a violent response. In this lecture, violence against men by women on television is portrayed as justified or acceptable. This has never sat well with me. I watched this CNN mistletoe prank where a gir…
