I now ghost if I don’t know them well enough to guarantee a safe reaction. Women are regularly attacked for rejecting men and it is a legitimate fear that we have. I hate pet names and know many women who feel the same. Part of it may be based on location, such as the prevalence of pet names being used in southern states with everyone (such as honey or dear).
