I guess the follow up question is what makes the offence "widespread" Especially when the following note exists Marketing communications may be distasteful without necessarily breaching this rule.

Wondering if there's a more recent source. If so, could EE be falling foul of the ASA code? https://www.asa.org.uk/type/non_broadcast/code_section/03.html Might file a complaint and see what happens?
