this is a pretty common notion among feminists. It's more than feminists. My experience with "open-minded" people is that they're just as close-minded as the people they disagree with. There were numerous instances of politically or religiously conservative speakers giving talks on my fairly liberal college campus. All were met with protests and letters to the school newspaper urging the school to not host such people.

If a number of people are renting a property, and looking for another person to rent one of the rooms, this is entirely legal. If the owner of the property is only renting to one gender, this is illegal. If the owner of the property is renting a room to one gender, then it's a bit of a gray area.
