Believe it or not I had a guy once that looked into what jewelry works on really fair skin that I have and asked to confirm if that’s why everything I wear is silver prior to getting me jewelry

He was going to quit outright but decided having an income while getting reduced hours so he could exit with a more solid plan was better. I can see why that is pragmatic. This was the crux of why he is in the area we are in now. Thank you for all the help with this. I really appreciate the in-depth details and follow-up questions you answered.

They sound like 2 kids playing pretend over a plastic tea-party with dollies. He's not seriously considering her as a business partner to be part of a power couple. I 1000% agree with this. I don't think either of them were being serious but just playing pretend as you stated. But you have a good point, that can be toxic. Because if she thinks its "real" and not just a fantasy play then that could do real damage or create expectations that will never be met and might lure her in. And on his busi…

I hope I don't come off as defending this guy because based on everyone's input here I will be telling her that this guy is a hard pass. He did elaborate a lot more on the career shift when we were in person. I think he just didn't want to go into (pretty boring) details on what his moves are over Tinder. Someone else made a very good point though that getting into a relationship with a guy about to quit his job and probably work 80-90hr weeks to start their own business is not the move. Like ho…

Yes!! The humblebragging was a huge turn off for me. Anytime it happens it grosses me out. And they do seem incompatible to be quite honest, you're picking up some really good points! I will say, that I am introverted as well and like to think that I can hold a conversation fairly well haha but maybe a potential inconsistency to watch out for.

I appreciate you so much! This is incredibly helpful. Thank you!! Your examples of how a HVM would respond is especially helpful edit* sorry last one, I promise. Since youre giving me such good stuff. What is the bad part about being vague? I feel like she would think that he is just trying to save longer/deeper conversations for the meet up or phone. But it feels like its a big deal that he is being vague. How should I think about this?

Very insightful. I also got a weird vibe but you put it into words for me. Sounds like sales pitch.

I was pretty grossed out by that as well. He is definitely in the position to give out internships but using his professional position like a power play felt idk... sleezy to me. Like a boss who would hit on the receptionist

Also, I no longer date men whe are about to quit their jobs to start their own business. I’ve done that in the past - not a good phase of life to start dating anyone. That is such a good point I didn't even think of!!! Thank you

Thank you for your perspective, it's very helpful for someone without any experience. Do you think the fact that he's practiced at talking to girls is a red flag? or inconclusive with just this context?

Through social/professional circles. It allows you to observe them in an environment where they are not "on" looking for a date so you can more easily gauge where they stand on the spectrum. There is already a facade being created when the forum for meeting someone is intended for dating/sex. Remove that foundation and you can find higher quality men. That said, it may be much harder because options/access is much more limited.

Thanks for the elaborate response! I have a few follow-up questions if you have the time, since if I bring this up to my friend I'll need to be able to explain to her. His opener was an obvious joke that tied back to her bio. So I don't know that I can make direct conclusions from that. I didn't want to share her bio for her own privacy reasons. He actually is a director of sales for a fairly large company, which is easily confirmed since we all have mutual friends. But you have a lot of other p…

It depends I think. Is this a full grown adult with an income? Does he have a car? And if yes, why didn't he offer to drive you home? If this guy has a decent enough job a $80-$120 uber should not break the bank to get you home safely if he, for some reason, can't drive you himself. You took the effort to meet him at HIS location. That was for HIS benefit. And as far as he knows, you shelved out the same amount of money to get there! So if this guy has a stable job, then I do think this could be…

I don’t understand people who do that… like it’s not your life, energy, time on the line so why be so pushy about it… incredibly frustrating. Could be latent insecurity from when they were single, lost, lonely and projecting that on to you. Assuming that you feel just as shitty as they did when they were single. I wonder if any friends who were well adjusted and secure in themselves while single would do the same.

I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through and it sounds like it’s really deep in your psyche established from a young age. I think you need to be patient and kind to yourself. This type of change will take time but you are on the right path by first recognizing it. I don’t have much advice because I was never in your position but I just want to say I am really proud of you.

Because they think from their own perspective rather than try and truly, genuinely empathize to understand the other. It’s the lazy way of trying to be “thoughtful” without actually being thoughtful.

I can’t even imagine having the kid of someone like that. It makes me sad to know girls who have never known what a HVM is and set the bar so low for scummy dudes
