These fools hone in on "cultural appropriation" so quickly because appropriating the suffering of others is their bread and butter. It's similar to how dishonest people tend to be better at spotting other liars.

I appreciate the response. I think this might be my point, actually. Even as bad as living conditions in Haiti are we don't have to be concerned with terrorists enclaves there (that I know of) looking for opportunities to lash out at the U.S. So, from a ruthless pragmatism perspective, I don't understand why this isn't a part of our foreign policy. Clearly it's just as effective as more lethal tactics, it plays well in the papers, and it apparently neuters any retaliation. Or am I still missing …

For a long time I've wondered why we don't spend more money on foreign aid. Like, actual food and blankets and stuff like that, not just cash that gets pocketed by warlords and their underlings. I keep hearing about how welfare, food stamps, etc. all destroy the soul of a people, remove their inclination to work, basically rob them of their agency and any hope of pulling themselves out of lives that need welfare and food stamps.
