The OP's story like many others gives this warning to all men: Make sure your wife is gainfully employed before starting any divorce proceedings. Yes the system is unfair, so you have to know how to minimize your losses.

If the laws in your state allow this, you should definitely use it, there is a good reason why that law is in place (unfortunately in only few jurisdictions)

I'm not a lawyer , but from what I have been told any assets obtained prior to marriage such us your home, will not be considered joint assets in divorce regardless of who is on the title. Also , you said she's been doing "illegal things" if you have evidence you can use this as a bargaining chip because I'm sure she doesn't want a criminal conviction and getting disbarred.
