It is degrading, and even if unintentionally done, will turn you into someone's pet. I like my partner to have a mind of his own. Have his own style and own voice. Seriously though, I get the whole "caring too much" part because I do this, and it really does throw you off balance when you do start to care. It's a contradiction within itself. You want to show that you care, but you want to protect yourself.
