...no STEM isn't just computer science. Heck, you can argue that most people outside CS and electrical engineering aren't too fond of coding. From my experience, STEM in my country tends to attract the "alpha" kind of people because, due to being so competitive, it tends to attract those who are more successful at life, be it by upbringing or due to personal merit, and those people are social, have tons of stuff going with their lives and are really smart. The shy introverted nerd trope is more …

Ratio's not the problem, neither is personality, where I come from STEM is also mostly outgoing women, with the exception of a few fields, but out assignments are so demanding we don't usually have time for dating.

If that were the case STEM undergrads wouldn't joke as much about the loneliness of being single.

I'd probably have a better chance at dating as a woman, at this point I've pretty much failed as a man. On a side note, I get the impression the degrees of freedom men can take in their social roles is far more restricted than what is expected from a woman these days.

Portuguese here. I hate the term machismo so much because it subconsciously equates misogynistic attitudes with male nature.

If a sub has nothing to do with politics, shouldn't it ideally be a neutral space? I know the people who run the subs have the final word on the moderation, but some people just aren't capable of properly running a sub doing stuff like that. My deal with just bringing up subs like PPD and 2X is because those clearly hold some minor political stance and connotation, while subs like r/OffMyChest don't, they're just being managed by extremely biased individuals. Do they have the right to do it? Yea…

I understand, it's just that I don't really see much of a better alternative right now.

When the main reason to join the sub is because you got banned from TwoX, there isn't anything more tame than that, truth be told

What about other situations such as being banned from r/OffMyChest for being an active member of r/TumblrInAction? From my point of view, everyone should be given the right to vent any frustration when the need arrives, it's not exclusive to a specific mindset. TwoX is just an example in this situation, a lot of self-proclaimed neutral subs are doing this more and more and that's when people get a bit tired of that, because maybe we'd like to not be kicked out of places where this sort of politi…

It's still a bit different from already setting up a bot designed to ban people who don't even cause harm to the subreddit's atmosphere, just because of dissenting views.

Kinda does, truth be told, it shows we're talking about two people who view the world in different ways, and that can easily poison the relationship if they are that sensitive about their own views. There are many shades of identifying yourself as a feminist and some of them can have repercussions on one's dating game.

Uncle Ben once told me that with great power comes great responsibility. If these women wish to be respected as regular citizens, they should know how to take care of themselves rather than put all the weight of their problems on somebody else's shoulders.

I may be the minority here, but I'd say number 3 depending on his personality. It's true number 2 looks like a more straightforward alpha, but an alpha businessman or celebrity can reach one of the highest partner counts ever.

That is to assume that a virgin bride lacks any standards taught to them by the simple process of maturing. Even without any prior experience, girls will hear throughout their childhood and adolescence fairy tales and stories about "perfect guys" and that in a way has a subconscious impact on ourselves. It's not even a matter of being aware of such standards, women are simply built throughout their lives to weed out the unattractive, incompatible and "beta" the same way a man is constantly told …

Women did not vote or own property en masse until feminism. Sorry. There were some rare outlier cases earlier but as a whole, they were not allowed to vote. Yes, same goes for men, they still had to own property in order to vote. Do you think the right to vote was initially assigned to people based on their gender? Sorry, it was based on social hierarchy, regardless of the person being a man or a woman. Even if the outliers were not representative of the general demographic, it's still proof tha…

Just FYI, the first records of women owning property and voting comes from the 1840s, waaaaaaay before the first wave feminists who just claimed that achievement as part of their doings. History is written by the victors, and so we are taught that all rights women hold come from a branch of feminism, when it fact it might as well be thanks to the individual's own merit.

Still, if we're talking about a hypothetical situation in which we will never see the person again, I'd say that asking them out right away wouldn't harm the person that much in the long run. Then again, the scenario I conjured in my head is basically the standard scenario for the pick-up artists movement.

Except that many mechanisms from the human body, sexual desire included, are just ways of expressing a need for reproduction. Why? Because we NEED to reproduce in order to keep the species alive, that's one of our top priorities and it's written in our very code.

No harm done in trying, at least from my point of view. Chances are, if she'd reject him with her headphones on, she'd probably reject him anyway. That said, if OP is as delicate as you make OP look like, then caution is probably advised.

Okay, I wasn't really sure if this was a real discussion or just shitposting, but since it's a proper discussion, I'll bite: I actually saw the film adaptation a few days ago (read the book previously, mind you), and it came to my mind from the dialogue that this story did go a lot against the idea that we must believe what supposed victims have to say and that facts could be disregarded, except that we were all aware right from the beginning of the trial that Mayella was outright lying. It wasn…

I'm doing my best at remaining stoic here because some of the stuff I read on those tweets actually happened to me while I was dating a girl last summer, so to me it feels like I'm being blamed by feminists and liberal media painting the hashtag as a good thing when I haven't even done anything wrong to that woman.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
