I don’t know why you would want to be oppressed but okay. If men are being oppressed than who are they being oppressed by? I’m not trying to make an oppression competition I was telling that person that the reason women weren’t fighting in wars and such was because they legally weren’t allowed to.

They were barely allowed to have jobs in the first place. Men were seen as the sole providers of the household. Women were expected to birth and take care of children along with the man of the house. I’m not saying only one had problems.

Women weren’t allowed to join the military in certain points in history though. But many women did aide by building assisting in building planes and working in factories though.

I’m not referring to which jobs the genders tend to pick, but what happens when they pick jobs that are ruled more by the opposite gender. When men choose jobs like a therapist or a teacher they might not be seen as fit like a woman would. Same for jobs like a mechanic or something like an IT specialist. The genders are expected to fit into certain categories based on their stereotypes and gender roles. Toxic femininity and masculinity are equal in my eyes.

Just because both genders have experienced low class pressures doesn’t mean they are equal. Women even now are constantly assaulted and harassed because of their gender. And yes I know men also get assaulted and harassed but it’s not on the same level as women.

A way of society or even things smaller than that like a household that put men as sole leaders. Thus meaning they have more responsibilities and seen as better/superior.

Ah okay I see and I completely agree with you. Men should be able to opt out of being a parent just like women are. If that woman wants to keep the child and the father doesn’t he shouldn’t be held accountable. Nor should he have to have his child taken away from him for no valid reason. I’m not trying to be condescending, but I see a lot of people in the subreddit blaming women for some of the things they experience. The patriarchy isn’t all men’s fault and I’m not trying to offend anyone, so sorry about that.

Abortion is a right that every woman should have. Gender roles affect everyone. Please don’t take this as I’m blaming men for everything or only women have hardships. I just see a lot of people on here blaming women and feminism for their problems.

For the reproductive rights, I think that men should be able to communicate with the birth giver on what they want, but in the end it’s the woman’s choice. Custody wise I believe it’s because in history it is seen that women are more apt to take care of children because of their emotional nature but I believe whoever is fit to care for the child should care for said child. What I am trying to say is feminism is focusing on women’s issues just as this subreddit is focusing on men’s issues. Yes both of the sexes have issues, but historically women have been more oppressed/marginalized than men. I am not placing the blame on men but on the unequal system/s in multiple places in the world.

Well for the safety and protection part, that’s not entirely true as there are femicides going on in multiple countries. As for privilege I’m going to need a little more elaboration. And for responsibilities, if you are referring to the “housewife/ cooking and cleaning” responsibilities, that is because of the patriarchy.

Also in many debates or important conversations like meetings and governmental conversations women are often talked over and their ideas are often dismissed. A lot of people see women as too emotional to form rational ideas or opinions.

In my academic years I have been compared to males when it came to my success. Such as when I got into a specific program that was suppose to be for intelligent people my teacher was surprised and stated “I expected so and so and so and so to get in but you, no way.” Both of those children were males. Also effects of the patriarchy still exist and not only America exists.

And that’s what I’m trying to explain. Feminism as a whole is not a bad thing and real feminism isn’t meant to put down other people. But in the realm of feminism there are people like TERFS who claim to be feminists but are only for equality or even superiority for cis women.

I’m sorry that this is something that you experienced, but it’s not the same for everyone. Your personal experience does not dictate everyone else’s. As another woman, I feel empowered by feminism. I’ve experienced discrimination because of my gender and many other I know have also. Feminism has helped me regain confidence. I am not a victim and I will never be. But there are most definitely inequalities when it comes to sexes, man or woman.
