You're not wrong that there is a biological component to the selection of a mate. Women are biologically more 'invested' in the act of reproduction. However, that's not the data we're looking at. In the graphs the men produce; 50% of the women are rated as looking worse than average, and 50% greater than average. In other words, while men prefer a more attractive partner, (and indeed, message more attractive women more often), overall the proportions are balanced. It's a bell curve. And despite how much some people like to highlight the differences, they are broadly very similar.
