I think Charlie Sheen is trolling everyone. He' will get his role back at Two and a Half Men, and his former boss and he will make up. He's done a fantastic job generating publicity for himself in the last few weeks, it's something CBS simply must capitalize on if they have any pride in their business acumen. Whether or not Charlie Sheen actually has his substance abuse and mental issues under control (by that I mean whether he's just using these problems to his advantage or truly making them up…

Related, but not to the rape case itself: I had the opportunity to be at Duke ~2 weeks after it hit the presses, and the university had pulled EVERY piece of lacrosse merchandise from the shelves in their bookstores. As everyone may or may not recall, the entire team was also suspended for two games. The coach of the Duke lacrosse team was then forced to resign, and Duke's President then cancelled the rest of their season. The entire experience was a stain on what I believe to be a great univers…

Thanks for your reply; I made my mind up this morning after thinking about it pretty heavily last night. I'll be letting them decide.

You're right. I think I've settled on letting the kids decide in their own time. Thanks for your input.

Regardless of why he did it, it was his decision. It's fine if someone wants to get their junk cut as long as they make the decision. I think I speak for most of this board when I say the issue stems from doing it to your kid when he's a newborn. Having a say in the matter is an important part of this issue.

That you are looking for arguments against only demonstrates that you've lost (or given up) the debate in the first place. Wrong. It means I live in a country where circumcision is the norm, and most of the information from peers supports circumcision. It should be abundantly clear to anyone who's been following this thread that I'm more leaning toward au naturel, and letting the kid decide. I'm trying to go into any future debate armed with knowledge rather than emotional appeals.

Well I definitely thank you for your honesty. This opened my eyes about it a good deal.

I'm asking this question because I anticipate resistance from the SO when I bring this up. Like I've said elsewhere, I have no preconceived notions about it, although all but one of the responses on this thread are adamantly against it. It's always difficult to determine the motivations of people discussing such an emotionally-charged topic, so I'm having to take it all with a grain of salt. I agree with you though; I think if there truly is little or no health benefit, it seems like an ancient …

every person should have the right to make decisions about the wholeness of his or her body This is where I'm leaning too. Thanks for your input.

I'm not going to get into the legitimacy of UN agencies over circumcision. The WHO is mostly funded by private donors who earmark their money for certain research, and my wager is UN Women will be plagued with the same nonsense. I doubt people are going to be donating to both in amounts that matter as a whole.

Your first point dismissed the dangers of abstinence-only sex education, and instead placed the blame on circumcision. No condoms allowed = you WILL eventually get HIV with promiscuous behavior. That is what the problem is, not circumcision. I'm not saying it may be an issue elsewhere, but lack of education is the primary reason our HIV rates are so high. You're right, that was a bad analogy when I mentioned vaccination.

That is not what I'm saying and you know it. My point is that I highly doubt their is overlap between the two organizations in either motivation or vision. The WHO is out to make people better. UN Women is out to...I don't know as I was just introduced to them minutes ago, but I'd wager it's based upon civil rights and building other women-centric agencies focused on advancing women, whatever that means. I doubt the WHO is filled with the same crazies that are in UN Women, and I doubt one has an…

Just like any California DMV is responsible for letting gays get married. This argument presupposes an organized feminist conspiracy to cut up penises, when it's really just a few harpies lobbying their government better than we do. edit- I'm not against gay marriage. It sucks that I feel the need to make this clear, but I would rather not be painted as some dick-cutting, homo-lynching psychopath.

If you don't mind my asking, how old are you now? I wish there were more people with your situation so I could plumb the depths of their minds about this, but I know of no one (plus, it would be real awkward to ask about at the water cooler) Would you mind elaborating on your experiences with & without being circumcised? I know this is vague, and I apologize, but I'm just curious about how it went for you. What was your motivation for getting cut? etc.

I think your first point is related to the problem America has had with abstinence-only sex education rather than the prevalence of circumcision. This approach is proven to be harmful to young adult sexual health, while other developed countries actually educate their kids about it, and have lower HIV rates. That's related to (I think) the religiosity of America, and is a whole other can of worms. Point 2 - well put, thank you. Point 3 - This is like not vaccinating for Hep B or Polio because yo…

Fine, but do you have any evidence circumcision does nothing to prevent it? The study was conducted by the World Health Organization. I have a hard time believing they are biased- that would be quite counterproductive to worldwide health.

Wait wait wait. What do you mean by size? I find it hard to believe that it would shrink after being circumcised. I definitely agree with the loss of feeling point, just to be clear.

This may get me downvoted, but I wonder if it balances with the female babies that are abandoned/smothered/aborted in China? They have a pretty dramatic gender imbalance if I recall correctly. Either way, if the male chromosome is truly more vulnerable to environmental factors, we need to get our shit together on environmental issues.

Wow...just wow. My heart goes out to you. I dealt with a somewhat abusive mother, but nowhere near on the scale that you experienced. Keep fighting the good fight.

This is SUCH bullshit. "He's a shitty husband, so he deserves being removed from the thing that DEFINES HIM AS A MAN" This logic and and John's follow-up APOLOGY (WHAT THE FUCK) is a bellwether for how completely fucked up western policy and society is because of feminism. I don't know the details or extent of John's unfaithfulness. If he did in fact cheat on her, he should be removed from any kids they have. Lorena should be in prison for what she did. And what is this bullshit about her websit…

What a pile of bullshit. For what it's worth, I feel for you man. Losing custody of your own kids must be awful.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
