My ex would describe me the same as you describe your STBX, despite the fact that I did much more than he ever realized. Once we split, he ended up getting a girlfriend who he moved in REAL fast to help with childcare, because he couldn't handle the kids on his own for his every other weekend.

My protective instincts are greater than any man I've known.

My dad repeatedly violated my boundaries and smacked and pinched my ass because he wanted to. Another male family member sexually molested me as a child. The men in my family were the problem. If my mom had been a feminist, she wouldn't have stuck around; she'd have gotten her and me out of there. But she believed the bullshit of man being the head of the home, women need men, etc. Feminism was my salvation.

Men very typically overestimate theur contribution to running the household. Even when men self report splitting housework and childcare equally, it is not always accurate. Just like men statistically perceive in mixed gender discussions, women are speaking the majority of the time when it's actually observed/measured to be something like 30%.

I did all those things, and it still wasn't enough. Also, if she's doing all the cooking, housework, and childcare, she's not going to have energy for sex.

Right. Like not expecting your wife to do the majority of housework and childcare.

Yeah. I live in an impoverished area, and there really weren't many resources. I was active on Twitter at the time, so I ended up creating a GoFundMe that my followers contributed to. My family was completely unsupportive, because they're religious and believe divorce for any reason is a sin. I had no job and I couldn't use all my TracFone minutes to call places, since I didn't know when I'd have money to replenish it. I did eventually end up getting a cell from DSS, but that took awhile.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/04/22 04:26 AM

Interesting. I left my ex with 5 kids while pregnant with #6 and a TracFone. I couldn't get any assistance other than SNAP, not even childcare grant money.

If the majority of men don't think this way, then why do many men immediately act like a date is leading anywhere? Dates are for getting to know each other to see if you're compatible before moving on to sex.

Me, too! We're definitely healthier people apart from each other. He even called me for parenting input for one of our kids (we have 6; I got custody of 2 because they were old enough to decide which parent to live with, and the judge ruled against the recommendation of the children's attorney that all the kids should be in my primary custody) today, which astounded me.

Leagues for me are based on character, not looks. If someone with bad character consistently runs through relationships with people of good character, my assumption is that the person with bad character is using the other people. If someone with good character consistently dates those with bad character, well, then their character isn't as good as I thought.

These differences are not as fundamental as you think. The only difference I've observed is that a shocking number of men tend to think sex is a right rather than a privilege. Many of my woman friends are hypersexual and have ridiculously high sex drives. We just tend to use toys instead of men's bodies for sexual gratification.

Oh, no. He put all the blame on me and had everyone else convinced he was the innocent victim and that I was the one causing all the contention in the divorce. My ex husband was a scorched earth person. He was a minister, which I think, while not as obvious as those other professions for making divorce as difficult and litigious as possible, should not be overlooked. In some denominations, clergy who are divorced are no longer considered eligible to continue in ministry and are losing their livelihoods.

You make a good point about 1 & 3 feeding into each other. I think you miss my actual point of 1.5. It's not about only wanting sex. It's about seeing women primarily as potential sex objects instead of people.

I blane men for not understanding or pretending not to understand boundaries. No means no, not "please convince me." I also wish many men would admit they don't actually like women as people; they just want to have sex with women's anatomy that meets their specs. I believe men don't understand that their conclusions about women as a whole are generally wrong, because they're projecting their values, perspectives, and experiences as men onto women. Wayyyyyyy too many women don't know how to be di…

I've had quite a few partners with smaller penises. One was micro and four have been below average. Of these five, four were amazing lovers. One was just selfish in bed and took it as a personal offense if I suggested things that actually worked well for me. Three have been well above average. One was really good at sex but just left after he came, which made me feel used. One was so big that sex wasn't enjoyable. And the third is a literal sex god, but that's because he's autistic and basically…

Hard same. I'm the head of household because I make more money, and my husband does the majority of household chores. But in the bedroom, it's opposite. And some types of feminists have real problems with women taking a submissive role, even when it's the woman's completely consensual, uncoerced decision. I don't get it. Feminism is supposed to be about personal choice and elevating the status and well being of everyone.

Some women are deeply fulfilled in traditional roles. That's absolutely fine. It's not for me, and that's also fine. The trick is finding someone whose values match your own.

Oh, women have agency to say no, and that's what men who think this way are mad about. Women say no because they sense they're not being seen as people, and then those men get mad because women don't want to have sex with them.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/04/22 06:03 PM
2

Only men who view women as objects instead of full people think this way. "Knowing how men think" in this case is assuming that because you as a man think this way, most or all men think this way. This is fallacious.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/04/22 02:41 PM

You're missing my point. Women are not more emotional than men. Women have better emotional intelligence than men because we're conditioned to. Just because we are told (or you've been told and believe) that women are more emotional doesn't mean they are more emotional.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/04/22 05:22 PM
1

Women are told they're emotional because of misogyny. Also, the way you describe men functioning is exactly how women function. I absolutely notice my emotional response, figure out the cause, use logic to process and problem solve, then move on. There's no letting emotion control us and reacting unless we've been gaslit to hell and back.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/04/22 05:18 PM

Actually, compassion towards women in abusive situations saves lives. Blaming them is what kills.

/r/PurplePillDebate05/04/22 07:26 AM

If only it were that easy. There's so much emotional manipulation involved in these scenarios that you don't realize what's happening until it's too late. And when you do realize and leave, you're vilified, because "he's such a good guy who cares about you so much!"
/r/PurplePillDebate05/04/22 07:20 AM
4

Women spend their entire lives being told we're too emotional and learning to separate logic from emotion. Men are told they're more logical by default and thus mistake their emotions for logic.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/04/22 07:10 AM
2

You're completely missing the point. We don't know who's abusive until they start abusing us. And the majority of abusers wait until the relationship is firmly established before starting with minor abuses. Minor abuses meaning trying to control what a woman wears and painting it as being disrespectful to him if he doesn't approve of her clothing. Demanding she check in constantly, because he's "so worried" about her. Showing up at her work frequently because he "misses her so much."

I feel 1000x more safe around Black men than I do white men. Black men in the US face racism and being unfairly targeted. They are not as a whole going to do anything that is going to trigger a woman's Spidey senses. If I have the choice of walking alone in a non-white, lower class neighborhood with open drug dealing or past a bar with a bunch of white frat boys, I'm picking the former every single time.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I actually would like to talk with you about it if you think it would help you feel heard and validated. Some people are simply cruel. And some of us cross paths with those types of people more than once. It's not anyone's fault for getting assaulted. Life is Russian roulette. Sometimes you get unlucky.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/04/22 05:01 PM

I wish it were. I know humans have a mechanism wherein our brains minimize horrible things so that we can function. I'm fairly certain that's what happens when women talk about being sexually assaulted or raped, because none of us wants to live in a society where such occurrences are common. The silver lining is that I am as a result deeply empathetic to men who have been victims of sexual assault and rape, rather than being dismissive of their very real pain and trauma.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/04/22 02:57 PM

You haven't lived as a woman and do not share those experiences. Instead of downplaying these claims, you could try looking at reported statistics. And keep in mind that sexual assault and rape are underreported. I have been raped by 3 different men (as well as sexually abused as a child by a man), and I reported exactly zero of those. Almost every woman with whom I have discussed this topic has been assaulted in some way.

Game stores Hobby shops Bowling alleys Basically, have an interest or hobby that takes you outside of your home. I promise there will be women there. The issue, however, is that women enjoying themselves in public or participating in their hobbies in public places are not always open to being approached to be asked out. Please don't lead with that. Start by getting to know them first and building rapport.

Disagree with the paying for a date no matter what she says part. In my experience, if a guy pays for a date, he very often acts like I owe him some kind of sexual favor. Additionally, if I say no and someone insists on doing it over my protests, they've just shown me they don't understand consent. I will not be investing more time on someone like that. The rest of your post is pretty accurate.

My dad is very much how you describe yours. He's why I see "alpha males" as extremely dangerous and something to avoid. My current husband cries when he's sad, talks about his feelings when he's angry instead of yelling, doesn't act dismissive when I get emotional, and is simultaneously very masculine. I adore that he's comfortable with expressing both masculine and feminine traits, because his ability to do so means I can relax and feel safe in his presence.

How do you know you'd be fine marrying her prior to dating her? Is this ideally a situation where you've been friends for awhile and already know each other well before transitioning to a dating relationship?
/r/PurplePillDebate30/03/22 04:54 AM

That's entirely possible. We only saw the actions and can't actually know his mental and emotional motivation.

You've never given a socially expected response when you felt differently? If you haven't, that's pretty impressive. As a woman, I've smiled through verbal abuse and giggled through sexual harassment, because I'm socially pressured to be nice and not make a scene. And sometimes, even though I've initially responded one way because I've been programmed to, once my true feelings kick in, my secondary response is completely different.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/03/22 06:58 PM
1

I think his anger was genuinely his own and not secondary because his wife put him up to it. Also, why are so many people saying Jada cheated? They were on a break at Will's behest.

My husband knows my count. My other partners don't, because they've never asked. I haven't asked about theirs, either. I don't go out of my way to avoid discussing it; it just hadn't come up because honestly? None of us really care. I've never lied about my count to anyone, and it's obvious that I'm very interested in sex.

I'm angry because I've actually been raped by multiple men, so it's not an unfounded fear or something theoretical. And I see other men being dismissive of my experiences because not all men have raped me. Or blaming me for being raped, as if it's somehow my fault these men presented themselves one way, then acted completely differently when told no.

I'm attracted to personalities more than looks. It's very rare that I see someone that I'm immediately sexually attracted to, and the majority of the time, that person isn't what society considers conventionally attractive. I'm pansexual, so this applies to all genders equally. I can view a person and acknowledge they are beautiful, but I don't typically get pants feelings just by looking at someone.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/03/22 02:44 AM

This is incredibly presumptive.

I (pansexual woman) can't speak for everyone, but I improve myself for me. I want to be the best version of myself I can possibly be, since it's not guaranteed I'll have my partner forever. I don't care about what's attractive to others. Not everyone is going to find me attractive, and that's ok! I'm not going to stress over trying to please a group of people. /r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 11:58 AM

There was a lot of other abuse leading up to it. However, I grew up in an abusive home and honestly believed that's just how families were. My dad yelled at and belittled my mom and us kids. He went overboard with the physical discipline. He was controlling Since that was all I knew, I didn't know better. And he (my ex) didn't beat me. He punched me once in the arm because he was mad. I was pregnant. But that one punch was when I started making plans to leave.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 11:03 AM

That's likely. The issue is that "a lot" is pretty subjective. What is a lot/damaging for one person is not problematic for another. Which is why it's so hard to quantify all of this.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 10:54 AM
2

In my defense, we were married 13 years before it escalated to physical violence. And I'm 43, for reference. I got married at 22 and had only that one partner for those 13 years.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 09:55 AM

n=13, and I don't know if others consider it high. But I was raised in Purity Culture, so it feels high due to my background. Single mom was because of a divorce and a restraining order, so I guess my bad decision was marrying someone who escalated to hitting me. Technically a divorced mom, but effectively a single one. I've learned from the experiences!
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 09:42 AM
3

You'd hate me irl, then. I was a single mom, and I have a high n count. Not any of the others you mentioned, though. I do want to thank you for taking the time to explain your perspective to me! I see so much anger in a lot of men's groups, and that doesn't come from nowhere. I'm trying to understand the root causes of that anger, because we as a society can't improve things if we only address the symptoms.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with Women naturally want to cater to men Historically, women have been taught to cater to men. It may appear natural to an outside viewer, but it's something that is conditioned from very early ages.

That sounds very healthy. Good for you!
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 09:14 AM

I find that happening, as well. I don't care as much as I did when I was younger. Probably because stuff doesn't always directly affect me. And emotional support takes energy I just don't have anymore.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 09:11 AM
2

Thank you! That makes sense. So it's kind of like empathy burn out. You've given and cared, and then when they hurt you, you care a bit less and don't have as much patience for the next person's issues. Does that sound accurate?

I was asking about you personally. When you've experienced a breakup, do you feel that it affects you to the extent that there's less of you to offer the next person?

I'm really interested in your perspective, because it's so different from my personal experiences. When you've experienced a breakup, do you feel like there is less of you after? Like part of you is still with that other person?

I think you're making a lot of assumptions about women here. Not every relationship ends with heartbreak. And a heartbreak doesn't mean you have literal chunks of your ability to emotionally connect taken away.

No. The shorter thing is just being a jerk. Height is not a reflection of someone's value and should have zero bearing on whether or not they'll make a good partner. I don't care about anyone else's income, either. But I think some women have had bad experiences with guys making less money and using her money indescriminately.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 06:51 AM

All of your theories are correct. Guys like that hide their flaws and/or are socially intelligent enough that it doesn't appear their immaturity is a problem, just a charming quirk. And usually there are other positive qualities. Nobody is all good or all bad. Then, when the problems show, women think that it's merely a case of the guy not knowing better, so we attempt to teach them to do better (aka, fix them). I was married to a man child for 13 years.
