Being big has pretty much always had benefits when it comes to most combat situations. Eventually, the walking at each other ended, and it came down to bayonets, swords etc. At that point, being the biggest, stongest and baddest man in the battle would absolutely come in handy.

Generally middle, though you'll have a range from low middle to upper. Also, the government will pay most uni costs, as well as partial living allowance etc. In my experience, almost none of them are working as well as studying, which leaves time for 'activism' alongside study.
