I forgot about this argument. Hahahahahahahah you're incredibly angry over something I couldn't give less of a shit about :D

This is not about separating the concept from the author. This is about putting the author's words in proper context.

It's a register of disagreement without any explanation as to why you disagree. Uh, no. "Okay" is very definitely not a register of disagreement. I'm actually pretty baffled as to how you're managing to misunderstand incredibly simple language on such a fundamental level. Given that you're having such difficulty even at this very elementary standard of communication, I'm not sure there's really any point in my trying to elucidate my broader, more complex point.

I have a feeling I've been drawn into an argument between you and your inner demons. It might be funny if I knew what the hell you were saying.

What exactly is ambiguous about "okay"? I'm baffled that such a straightforward and unequivocal word has spawned so much anger and confusion. We're all biased, and when you rely heavily on implication to make your point, you'll find it acts more as a sort of ink-blot for the biases of the reader. Or, you know, the writer.

Which isn't something that Pinker himself would believe.

You don't seem to understand my point at all.

I have literally no idea what this comment means.

The implication is that Pinker is in some way an ally of the MRM. That isn't true.

If it puts OP in a "different light", then it puts me in the same light too. Okay? If you need to dismiss what someone says just because they identify as a "feminist", then I'd say you're the one with the problem. I'm not "dismissing" him, I'm saying that the reality of his own views makes OP's framing of this statement very misleading.

Not really? Either way, he identifies as a feminist, which puts the OP in a very different light.

Also, you're leaving out the rest of that quote. I'm leaving it out because it's irrelevant. This isn't a discussion about biology.

A Baptist claims to be a Christian, but there are many Baptists that claim that Mormons are not "Real" Christians. Both those people are Christians. It doesn't matter that they each claim to have a monopoly on the word of God. If you follow the teachings of Christ, you are a Christian.

You are being incredibly dishonest. I said that Pinker is a feminist, you said: Do you suppose he is "a member" of Tumbler Feminism also? As though that had any bearing on whether or not the man qualifies as a feminist. The question of whether or not he is a "Tumblr feminist" is completely irrelevant to the criticism I made of your OP, which is that it is very misleading about Pinker's political views.

Are Tumblr Feminists not actual feminists according to you? I didn't even slightly imply that. My title "implies" many things. Haha, nice cop-out.

Do you suppose he is "a member" of Tumbler Feminism also? What? Why would he have to be a "Tumblr feminist" to consider himself a feminist? Most feminists I know aren't Tumblr feminists. In any case, what does an appeal to authority matter in regard to the truth of something. Would the Pythagorean Theorem be any less true, if Pythagoras had not been the first to write it down? That's... not a good analogy at all. Your title implies that Pinker is criticizing feminists, when in reality it's far m…

Whichever one it is, Steven Pinker apparently considers himself a member. Which makes him an odd mouthpiece to use when explaining what's wrong with feminism.

I am a feminist. I believe that women have been oppressed, discriminated against, and harassed for thousands of years. I believe that the two waves of the feminist movement in the 20th century are among the proudest achievements of our species, and I am proud to have lived through one of them, including the effort to increase the representation of women in the sciences. -Steven Pinker

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
